Re: breaking in bags before sale

I think it makes sense to sell something that works properly as soon as you receive it. I also think that there are quite a few people out there who aren't very good at breaking in bags or aren't patient enough to do so, which results in bags not reaching their potential. Do you think this idea is s...

I think that the best and safest way to improve your crank is to focus on strengthening the muscles that you use to crank your clippers, rather than stretching the opposing muscles. An exercise like what Wumbo suggested is a good idea. I think it would be even better to do this with a footbag on you...

I don't think that is what she meant. By your thinking, Holly is saying you should not have 4 knots at a bleed hole. Do you not tie your thread to itself when you finish a pent?

your avatar explains it all  LOL And great bag as always, Toby. It's hard to make a bag with the 2:3 stitch method for pents/hexes look good imo. I mean, it's already relevant that the performance resulting from this stitching method is there, of course, but it's easy to mess up the consistenc...

Toby, That bag is beautiful! How do you get those/come up with them weird designs? ps. we need to get a trade goin'! Thanks. There is a surprising amount of tweaks and changes that you can do to the seams to make them behave differently. These changes also tend to have an effect on bag appearance, ...

To johnl583: The red/brown bag looks very nice. Makes me want to try that colour pattern. To OCconfidential: looking good. However, after looking at the bags in those pictures, i think my comments in the "Polishing up my stitching.." topic were accurate. uh, wait...how do i load pics? put the image ...

If you posted some pictures it would help, but i will try anyway. 1. I think the things that usually effect how "poofy" the panels are is the amount of gather, and how short you cut the flange. Typically, you should cut the flange as short as it can go(too short will cause gathered folds to break fr...

Yeah. Overall, it gives a bag softer seams.

If you make one, don't gather the seams all the way. Probably don't even gather half the maximum. Also, I recommend cutting/stitching the flange at 60-70% of the stitch spacing.

Does the amount of stitches per side affect how sensitive the fabric is to getting holes? I think what affects "how sensitive the fabric is to getting holes" is the tension of the surface of the fabric on the bag. Less tension leads to less holes. I think that gathering a bag makes the seams stiffe...

That 42 panel looks pretty impressive. That 32 panel micro looks pretty good as well, except it doesn't look like you have used a very good technique to join the hexagons to each other. With that price, if you just made a few changes to your 32 panels, footbaggers would love you. Here's my most rece...

I agree with Nic. Judging by the video, i don't think this is true. The bag leaves his foot just before he does the dex.

Sorry, that was a bit rude of me. I just think that both designs were designed to be novelties and only have performance disadvantages. But i guess that you can never know for sure what the advantages/disadvantages are for each design untill you make them. I think they look like fun challenges. I th...

Personally, think both patterns are a bit stupid performance wise. why don't you try something with potential?

I still want to see an Icosahedron, 20 panel triangles, never seen one. I started making one ages ago, but decided that they are a terrible design since the corners of 5 shapes all meet at one point, and there is probably no way to make it break in properly. I would like to play around a bit with a...

would it not be better to instead find a consistent way to sew these unique bags instead of a 1 thread way? Just thought of this then, so i haven't checked if this is how it's done, but couldn't you stitch rings around 12 of the 18 squares(like you do with the pent on a 32) and then turn the remain...

Do you tie the start and end of your thread together when you finish a pent? or do you just tie it to the facile? If you tie the thread together you can just reach through the bleed holes with some tweezers to grab the original knot and add another to it. I haven't tried it though, i usually just cu...

How well do those break-in Toby? This bag is alot softer than it looks and it does break in quite fast. How well it breaks in to be i think depends on what sort of bag you like. The bag above has a kind of cushy and sticky feeling, but i think it's also a bit unresponsive. This is probably the last...

Just finished this a minute ago. It's the size of a golf ball and weighs 45g. If you want it, maybe you could win it at Kickass 2
