Re: Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag

Been a while since the last post. Been working fairly hard on the footbag resource website and it's now in a private beta. More info can be found over here: https://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23879 Let me know if you are interested in participating in the beta, it's a good opportunity ...

Re: New app I made

Nice stuff. One thing I think is worth mentioning is that people come up with projects like this every now and then and while they do different things the raw footbag moves are the same. For example have a look at these: https://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23901 https://modified.in/foot...

Re: Allan's Footblog

I think the distinction comes from the scope of the work more than the impact. I think running the forums here has a massive positive impact for the community and for that I'm really grateful, I know there's a lot of thankless work that goes on behind the scenes to keep something like this running. ...

Re: Suggestions

I was thinking about some sort of auto-save/organize video function that would, in its most ambitious state, take a video posted by someone and save it on footbag.org, possibly in that person's account. That way, we would have a nice backup of all videos...on .org! Another idea that made think of, ...

Re: Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag

So I'm currently in Toronto and I was thinking it would be cool to meet up with some footbaggers. Feet have been hurting though :( Somewhat disappointingly I don't know if anyone actually meets up for regular kicks these days and not being on Facebook I don't know how I'd find out. Say I wasn't a lo...

Re: Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag

Last post was in May, I think I played a few more times after that post but got quite a bad foot injury shortly after that. Was super frustrating as I had started to make some progress on a comeback. Had a lot of treatment on my foot lately and it's feeling a lot better, however I really don't know ...

Re: Footbag Analytics

Janis, thanks for the thoughts on links and scoring. I'm not sure I personally want to take this that far, but I've thought about similar solutions in the past. The way diving scores difficulty comes to mind. It's certainly a lot of effort, but I deemed it important enough to spend the large amount...

Re: Footbag Analytics

I like the effort that has been made here. Basically I think the best way to classify the difficulty of tricks would be to essentially create a bunch of rankings for the *relative* difficulties of moves. Essentially you could start with something like the ADDs system then introduce a relative rankin...

Re: Matching Jobs Notation with the move.

There isn't anything that comes to mind, which is why I was working on this project: http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23879

What you could do is look up some moves that are fairly simple and try to match those up with the jobs notation that goes with those moves.

Footbag moves database: Now privately testing!

Over the last couple of years I've been working on making a footbag moves encyclopaedia type website. The code that powers this is over on GitHub here: https://github.com/shuttle1987/footbag-db Due to being somewhat time poor I haven't had the ability to get it to the state I initially wanted to bef...

Re: Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag

Played again today. My fitness completely sucks, no doubt being sick for 5 weeks didn't help. Managed 216 toe delays first try which was nice. Hit gyro osis BS for the first time I think, this was certainly due to tips from a video that Nick made, lamenting the lack of work on my footbag site as sha...

Re: Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag

There's a good chance I'll be getting a job in Sydney in 6-9months time, so more than likely!

I might even get some footbag skills up if I get 2 summers in a row, having not had a winter shred spot here has resulted in a complete loss of momentum every year for the last few years.

Re: Antimatter

Essentially it's when you start a symp dex but don't plant the dex leg. So for example say you are doing a ripwalk with the first dex symp, if you start from left clipper you do the set then plant your right leg before the butterfly dex and the eventual stall. With antimatter the idea is that you do...

Re: Sharp Knee Pain

I had a very similar experience with knee pain. Basically what it came down to was patella maltracking which was made worse by certain footbag moves. I remember not having any difficulties at all with day-to-day stuff but symp whirl on one side became instantly painful at one point in time. If you c...
