Diet Tips
hey all, if there are any vegetarian/vegan shredders out there, what do you eat before/after you play?
I'm a lazytarian myself (and occasionally a freegan when i'm poor) so i eat a lot of peanut butter for the fat and protein, and when i'm done shredding, i try and eat an egg or two...
anybody have food tips for the busy footbagger who doesn't like meat?

im not intrested in becomeing a vegan at all, altho i know of sevral modified vegetarians. i to am very intrested in your first question. i want to start eating right again, like i said befor, i need to start eating stuff that dont start with Mc. fast foods just not doing it any more, during the summer it seems like i can eat just about any thing in any amount and burn it out really easly, but in winter it seems alittle harder, im lazy and sit around more, and i dont really do out side activitys and sweet. so for the next few months i desited to start eating health and in good portions. i would really like to get alittle build going this summer and i think eating right now will help for training in the summer.

I think drinking a lot of water before your session. And eat some fruit like bananas to help the muscles for cramping. Then after the session drink lots of fluid and eat bananas. lmao the key to a footag diet is water and bananas.
I dont rarly eat junk food also i eat a lot of yogurt and a lot of fruit and pasta i think thats a good eating style for me.

yeah, bananas are good, and pasta is definitely good. your body needs a lot of carbohydrates... anyone who's ever run a race or done a really long bike ride knows that the secret to energy the next day is to 'carbo-load' the day before. three meals of pasta and bread will do it...
if anybody has a footbag diet they want to post...

yeah, carbohydrates are the key.
and never eat meat before session, you'll be to busy with digest all that fats to shred hard =) . it's better to be hungry, actually =) .
bananas are not so bad, but there is smth that will give you much more energy.
peas and beans are very good, but not so tasty =) .
bread. bread is almost nothing but water+carbohydrates =) .
rice and pasta. about 75% of pure energy =) .
sugar. 95% of carbohydrates.

Yeh, the only problem is that the carbohydrates in sugar are very simple, so they release very fast... so you have a lot of energy for a little while. Something like bread gives you energy for much longer periods of time.So.....
Eat swets before and after your session and u'll become a Fat energyfull footbagger =)

Well, I'm vegan, but I don't have any particular habit of eating certain foods before / after I play. I usually like to have orange juice, bagels, and/or gatorade while I'm playing. I eat lots of carbohydrates all the time as well -- good bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is the best. Peanut butter toast works as well, but eggs are gross.

Oh my gosh, this is the best thing ever! If only you lived up here in north cal you could get some awsome San Fransisco sourdough bread to go with it, hopefully you've had it before, didn't you used to live in oakland? My favorite thing ever...good bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is the best

i think the first time i shredded at tom's house, he broke out a jar of peanuts and a bag of dates. man, that was good shredding food. i've heard that dates have almost a full complement of amino acids.
wolfpac444:
it's funny, but a lot of the vegans i know think eggs are grosser than meat. one of them stopped eating eggs long before he even became a vegetarian...

if you want to have the most energy and stuff for a session, complex carbo's are best which should be eaten atleast an hr before the session. If u can be bothered, u can also get a body building supplement called 'creatine', it helps replace the chemicals in the muscles a lot quicker, it gives u a lot of energy and it lasts a fair while. It also heaps build muscle aswell.
And if your looking at protein, you can get powdered whey protein from health food stores.
Using sugar as the main energy source isnt a very good idea, as someone had said, it doesnt last very long and its not good for your health. Sugar is only good maybe after the shred when u feel a little exhausted, powerade and gatorade are good, but too much isnt.
And if u shred without any carbos in you, the body will end up using the bodies fat as energy, so theres a good way in losing the fat. A good example is waking up early in the morning without eating nething and go for a session or some kind of exercise. But if you had carbo loaded the night before, well then its a different story. You'll be using carbo as energy instead.
Well theres my health report.

I've studied some nutrition stuff on my own, and in my opinion Jas's post is the best so far and also most accurate. There is scientific evidence that by using the HIIT (High-Intensive Intervall Training) system a lot of body fat can be burned. HIIT means going running or doing some other aerobic excercise in the morning without any carbs in your system. If that's too much for you, you can also do HIIT after hard gym workout. Lifting weights burns carbs so your body is empty of them after anaerobic workout. To get the maximum benefit from HIIT, you shouldn't eat carbs for an hour after HIIT because the fat burning continues for atlesat an hour after it.
Also, remember to eat enough protein so your muscles can grow. Protein also recovers muscles, and so do carbs. After shred or (better yet
) after playing net, it might be a good idea to take a recovery drink. It should consist of some 50 g (2 oz.) of carbs and 30-50 g (1-2 oz.) of protein. Good source of carbs is maltodextrin, its really cheap and you can find it easily. Good source of protein is whey protein powder, not that cheap but it really helps in the recovery. You can also get a recovery powder, just add water and its ready. Recovery drinks are usually a little more wxpensive but not much.
I've taken a recovery drink after every time I've played net for the past two years atleast. From my own experience I can tell you, it works. Some people say its cheating or whatever. But both whey protein and maltodextrin can be found in normal food but I just take them in a more efficient form.
This is a good topic and an important matter.
Well theres my health report,

A few diet tips!
Btw I am studying these subject.
There are a few guidelines which I highly recommend - but there are lots of possibilities to achieve your goal of losing weight.
theory :
If you eat less energy than you need you will reduce your weight - so counting the energy ( kcal/kj) is very useful.
The critical thing is to reduce a high percentage of your fat and not of your muscles.
According to this you can reduce your weight by only eating chocolate but you will getting fatter.
Methods
First of all - there are many methods and their scientific content is questionable very often.
I will add somekind of a sports nutrition
- eat not lesser than 30 g fat per day ( use non milk fat and add them after the cooking - not all but most of them )
- eat not lesser than 1 gramm / kg proteins per day ( i.e. if you weigh 75 kg > you should eat min. 75 g proteins per day)( try to collect this sum by using lots of different sources ( milk, meat, plants, nuts)
-eat the rest of the day carbs( use fast carbs after the sport session ( i.e. fructose to refill your carbtanks fast; and complex carbs during the day)
- the guideline for tennis player nutrition ( "similar" sport) is 60% carbs-10 % proteins- 30 % fat of your kcal ( = 100 %) (not in a diet!!!)-for the diet I would lower the fat a little bit and the carbs if it is possible.
The lack of energy:
Try to reach a lack of energy between 200 to 500 kcal not more!!! per day and try to keep it 7 days /week
try to reach a lack of 400-800 kcal and put one or two refeed days in your week- so you can maybe keep your metabolism up to pace.
A few tips in general:
-to reduce fat /weight will take a long time ( 1 kg body fat contains 7000 kcal)
- hear to your body !!!!- there are so much faults you can do because you cannot know all attitudes of your groceries- so if you feel bad then change something in your eating manners
-inform by yourself will raise your knowledge and your ability to rate most of the diet methods and avoid to run in the wrong direction.
- pay attention to your metabolism
Good luck !!!!
