Sponsors

Post by footbinc » 05 May 2005 10:50

THis is in relation to that olympic thread, but just on a different line, so new topic.

If a large corporate sponsor was secured, would you wear only their gear to compete? If Compnay X sponsored a tourney for $50,000, would your wear *only* company X clothes for that event? Or in the case of Net :) Put a large logo on your team jersey?

Thoughts?

I'm a corporate whore, so yes I would; except for shoes. Maybe shoes, if the sponsor was Brooks :).

I would not feel any obligation to wear the sponsors logo if they backed an event. However if they were sponsoring me to go to an event then I would for sure wear whatever they wanted me to.

Mohkale - care to explain your sig?

Hey Eric,

Sry, I should have been more clear. If it was a condition of sponsorhip. Like over in European hockey, where they plaster shit all over themselves to secure tournament and league sponsors.

Ben

Matti - Your sig is the best thing I have ever seen. Should be the slogan for the green cup. See you there!

Hell yeah,

Like Matti said I´m a corporated whore too. Not because of money, just to make our sport more professional, popular and more well known like it deserves.

You young whipper-snappers just need to organize more events -- FORGET THE BIG NAME MULTINATIONAL SPONSORSHIPS -- get the players and it will happen.

I`ve been in situations where Pepsi Japan asked me to wear a Pepsi shirt when playing, and I gladly sold out. When you talk about serious corporate sponsorship, it makes no sense not to make small concessions.

Here`s what I gave Pepsi:

1. I wore a Pepsi Twist shirt for a couple demos.

Here`s what Pepsi gave me:

1. Incredible tournament venue.
2. Massive prize money. This meant there were no entry fees for players, and the organizers didn`t incur any costs. Men`s Open Freestyle winner got about $1000 USD.
3. Flew in Sunil from the States to judge, hold a workshop, and play with us.
4. I got paid to judge the tournament, had my travel costs paid for, my food for the weekend paid for, and was put in a 4 star hotel for 2 nights. I used my prize money to fly to Prague for Worlds that year.

I "sold out", and would do it again in a heartbeat.
