Use gabbly when you get on modified

Post by HG » 10 Jun 2006 11:15

Alright, andrew grant made this first, but i wanted to put it in a forum where more people read.

Instead of going on http://www.modified.in when you want to check modified, go onto

http://gabbly.com/www.modified.in

that way there is a chat box in the upper right, WHILE you are browsing modified. So we should have around 10-20 people on at a time, but no one knows about it. its great. Try it out

Why I don't use Gabbly in three quick points.
  • 1) No idea who wrote it, site is completely void of actual contact information. I'm not sure it isn't a data gathering scheme. My data would seem to be the only thing of value they have to make money from, because

    2) It is javascript, and it does not run in my browser. Many more advanced applications in javascript run just fine. Somehow this just screams amateur hour to me, and

    3) It knows where I am, roughly, who I am, as in IP address, who I talk to, what I said to those people, when I held the conversation, how frequently conversations occur, who the people I talk with interact with, what websites we read, what links we click, our session hashes for sites, . . .
I don't like internet corporations with no business plan, no revenue model, and poor programmers. I like them even less when they make private information public, and log all of it for an unspecific purpose.

Like Eazy E said, you better chiggity check yaself before ya wriggity-wreck ya self.

^ couldya translate that? I dont speak jive.

Anyway, gabbly is full o' glitches. Once i was on for a while talking and it randomly started saying "hakker has joined" over and over. I shut down at like 500 something 'cuz the noise was annoying my head. also, when I scroll, the box gets all broken and pixely.

Please refrain from speaking forign languages on modified boards, if you must communicate in a language that is not english we ask that you do it via PM. We want everybody on the board to understand what is being discussed and that is why we enforce this policy. - Moderators

Hey I was speaking English it was just a dialect that non-Americans aren't familiar with, it's called Ebonics. It's still English, homes.

You know it's kind of funny. When I read the AUS and NZ guys' posts in my mind I don't hear an accent. Then I watched that Australian video and you all sounded nothing like you do in my head.

So.. don't use dialect... Just use international English. There is lots of people on the forum, who aren't native english speakers, and it's hard to understand post that are written in some dialects or use some slang. And the other thing is that those people are learning english all the time, so they don't always know which form, phrase, and etc. is correct. It would be better for everyone if people were using as much correct language as they only can.

Lol sorry that was actually a joke, I was just making fun of you talking like an african-american person on a message board as it is clearly a silly thing to do, especially when you are not african-american.

But Pawel is right, using a lot of slang in your posts in incorrect punctuation etc must be pretty confusing for users who's native language is not english.
