when people ask me about myself, I tell them I like to play songs, and that I'm pretty into hacky sack.

What I've found is that talk doesn't mean crap to people. You can call it footbag and reason and explain why and on and on. The ones who hear it called footbag but don't see me play probably won't care why it's called footbag, and probably won't differentiate between footbag and hacky sack. The ones who hear it called footbag, but do see me play, don't give a crap about the word until they've actually seen it done. Then, they might differentiate.

So, basically, let your strings speak for the amazingness of footbag, and don't stress the nomenclature, because it's pointless.

In Finland if you go to someone and ask them if they know what a hacky sack is they go like "No." then you show a footbag to them and they say "Oh, isn't that a footbag?"

well... actually they say "En tiiä." and then "Ai, eiks toi oo footbag?"

This is why we all should carry around portable Mini DVD players with a footbag DVD inside and bust it out and be like "OMG! CHECK IT OUT! IT'S FOOTBAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

ok, from what i'm hearing from all of you guys i should call what i do hacky sacking, or hacking, and what you guys do i should call footbag, but i say that either way it doesnt really matter, even though i have always associated anything to do with a "hacky sack" as hack, and i respect the skill that it takes to excell in freestyle, i just don't see what the big argument that some people put up is, no matter what you tell someone who isnt familiar with the sport, they are still going to consider it a "stoner sport" so theres my two cents on the whole topic

I really don't think it matters what you call it, it's still the same thing. Think about soccer and football (if you don't live in the US). They're the same thing and I doubt anyone really cares if you call it either one, I'm sure they'll know what your talking about.

I personally call it both. If I'm talking to you fellas, I call it footbag. If I'm talking to friends of mine, it's hacky sack (hack). They know I've been into hack for a long time, they're finding out that I'm into freestyle footbag, but to them it's still me doing nifty little tricks with my feet and a bag/sack filled with something. Why not call it footsack then everyone will be happy.

all you people referring hacky sack as a stoner sport, when I was young, not a stoner, I was probably better than the majority of stoners who played hacky sack, stoners are never a majority, the exception may be that in college there is quite a few stoners who play hacky sack, but everybody who tries playing footbag stoned will surely be less performant than normally, believe me I've tried. But to refer to hacky sack as a stoner sport I believe it's quite diminishing, I would not like to think of the inventors of the sport as stoners.. And who cares if it's called hacky sack or footbag, when speaking to my friends I always use hacky sack, they dont know what a footbag is. Also it's the same as calling a snowmobile a SKI-DOO in quebec. It's a brand name.....

let's forget about hacky sack, let's rule the world of footbag
