The Longest Running Footbag Events

Post by C-Fan » 23 Apr 2012 10:19

What footbag events have been running the longest? I'm looking for ones that are still active as well as ones which had a good run, but are done or dormant (D). I'll compile the list in the first post when we get a good amount. I appreciate it if people can add information to this thread, such as how many years the tournament happened, or if I'm missing any big ones. Mostly interested in events that have been going on for over 10 years.

The Finnish Footbag Championships have been running since 1997, so this year will the 16th time.

I think Midwest regionals has been running 26 years, this year will be 27. I'm sure Scott could confirm. Also, I think New Years Jam has been running 11 years. 2000-2011

Actually, Hackrifice might still be running net events, but that's just speculation since they have an active net scene (including Andrew Grant...)

I want to point out that the longest running footbag event is happening the weekend after US Open and is only a couple hours from Portland. I urge people to go to both if they can.

I went last year for the first time and it was awesome. Camping on the fairgrounds, delicious microbrews on tap 24/7, glow golf all night, and tons of other stuff going on. It's primarily a net event, but there was still plenty of freestyle and foursquare going on.

For many years I had always been utterly disdainful of footbag golf. After visiting the Beaver Open last summer I now realize that footbag golf is actually the best footbag event. Glow Golf at the Beaver changed my life!

I could only find one video of the Beaver Open, and it didn't have glow golf. It's the best part.

When the 2nd event takes place it is one year right? The first one is time = 0 years, 2nd at year = 1. It's kinda confusing.

Though if you count the buildup to the event than that counts for a year right there.

The Beaver open was sweet. Glow in the dark golf ftw!

On a related note, does the fact that some years midwest regionals considered itself USO change anything? Like, during those years was it BOTH USO and Midwest Regionals? Is that kosher?

Midwest Regionals I'm unsure about but I think Scott has run this every year since it started, 1 of those years being at NYJ? I was unaware it was USO a few times.

I think this counts:

Okinawa Footbag Meeting - 5 years (D)

EDIT: Sorry, I reread the first post and 5 years is less than the requested 10 years...
