Toe Box Sides

Post by Noah Jay-Bonn » 08 Dec 2002 18:16

Do you guys cut the eyelet (or eyelets for some, depending on how you lace the shoes) at the toe box off or leave it on? I know some people thinks it helps their sets to cut it off, but what do most of you guys think?

I cut it off my old pair of lavers today and I didn't find it improved my sets at all, plus it made it harder for me to catch the bag on some tricks, like double legover. Opinions?

i didnt cut them back. but my laces have pulled the box back. so its almost like i did. because its not in the way. if it didnt peel itself back i prolly would have cut a hole.

I cut mine off, not because it hindered my sets though. It was because I didn't want to become reliant on the walls of the toe box, and it feels ALOT lighter to me for some reason without those eyelets at the end.

i cut mine off on my last pair, i think it does help with some sets, i guess it makes them alittle easier, but on my last pair i didnt, i just had to "re-learn" my pixie set but not a whole lot. i like it better with the sides on, i think it looks cooler (if thats a word) or something...lol.

I didn't cut mine back. I didn't really even consider cutting them back, because it never occurred to me even though I read about it. It only helps your sets (the dexy ones anyway) if you tend to dex while the footbag is still within catching distance of the sides (2-3cm). But thats not a problem with you so I guess it's more of a question of slight increasw with speed or using the toe box for moves like dlos.

If you cut the toe box out the toe stalls should be like any other shoe. So why stick with the heavy lavers...there are shoes that have better insides than the lavers also.

I cut off the bottom two eyelets each side. So has everyone I kick with round here. I didn't find it too hard to get used to catching it afterwards. And it made sets sooo much easier.

Liam out.

I cut mine out in hopes that it would help my pixie set - it didn't. And, like almost everyone else, it made it harder to stall.

Millenium 2s: cut 2 eyelets off
Chinas: none cut off.

the my millenium toe sides were jus too cumbersome when pulled back.
i think the toe sides of Chinas loo reeealaal cooooool when pullled back.
that and the freestyle lacing make lavers look fresh & unique vs. other shoes.

hwAHN
everyone usually pronounces it wrong (WAHN without the 'h' sound), but it dont bother me.

Yo Jonathan,

It sucks that losing the eyelets didn'rt help for you. Have you removed the canvas from under the toe? If not, I definatley recommend it... I think no canvas + no wings = ideal. But whatever.. it's a preference thing.

Liam out.

I was skeptical at first but I must admit cutting the canvas out of the toe does help. The bag sits better in the toe box, and it's more comfortable. It's a lot of work, but i think it's worth it. I was thinking about cutting my eyelets off too, but i never got around to it. Now after reading this thread I'm kinda glad I didn't.
