Gatorade

Post by BrianP » 25 Jun 2005 20:22

Has anyone else developed an addiction to Gatorade from frequent footbag kicking? I never really used to drink the stuff, even when I ran, but I can't get enough of it after a hard session of shred.
Today is what you make it. So, like, don't screw up the recipe. ^^

You probably need to eat more bananas.

The only thing Gatorade really has that water doesn't is potassium (and a bit of sodium (and like a pound of sugar)), and you can get plenty of that by munching on a banana as you gulp your H2O.

I could easily drink two bottles after a boxing section, along with my protein shake but i usually refrain myself.
Although my shredding thirsts seem to be fulfilled by water.

Yes Gatorade does - it's a high electrolyte drink so it should be only drunk with a large amount of water. Otherwise it's very bad for your kidneys and can make you more dehydrated. Likewise if you drink a lot of water without replenishing your electrolytes this is also bad for you. You need a balance. Eating a banana or something similar is pretty much just as good.

Yeah, water and a snack (with snack I mean fruits etc. not candy or chips whatever).
Jeremy is right: Drink water too if you choose a Gatorade or Powerade etc.!
Also the "real" sport drinks that you buy as a concentrate should be diluted with a lot of water. It tastes worse but too much of that concentrate makes you feel only worse when you're exercising (I don't know about that kidney thing but I believe that Jeremy's right there too).

Myself, I want to keep it simple and not I don't use sport drinks. Important is to get enough fluid (I don't know if the word "fluid" can be used in this meaning) and enough energy, and I get and will get my fluid from water and the energy from eating right and regularly.

I use emergency packets in water instead of expensive gatorade. It actually has more sugar than you need so it's not as healthy as emergen"C" packets.

i like the caffiene of mountain dew, especially 15 or so minutes before i shred, though sometimes while i shred. though i think its better to drink it beforehand and water during.

I usually either drink Gatorade and water or just water. I find that when I drink Gatorade I have more energy to keep shredding than if I just drink water. Maybe I'll try the whole banana thing and see if it helps the same way.

when I used to work out more I would just buy the gatorade power and mix it with a lot of water, ie it was really dilluted, worked well and I got enough water

Occasionally Chris and I will use our "Pirate Bux" (allotted money at our college) and buy a gatorade to go along with our water, but usually I just shred with water.

I had one of those packets one time WITHOUT putting it in water because the guy who gave it to me told me he just took it plain and then drank water afterwards. It tasted HORRIBLE HORRIBLE OMG HORRIBLE that way. Oh well.

Also no one answered Alex's question...

But to answer yours Jordan... I like the stuff, but it kind of makes my mouth feel all furry, mainly my tongue. It tastes good though. I cant really see how it helps you out with exercise. Didn't do much for me.
Hopefully back one day.
