I'm not. The military is the last place you'd ever find me. But...

It's just sad that the only opportunity for a lot of americans is the military. The education is free and top-notch, but if you join and sign their papers then say goodbye to your rights. If they decide they want to send you to the other side of the earth to murder people, you have no choice.

We as a society waste a disgusting amount of our money on the military and get very little in return. Our tax dollars could be going to make sure that everyone has access to higher education (without having to sign over their freedom) and health care, as well as many other things that would benefit the public. As a physics undergrad, I was disappointed when I realized how much money was going into weapon and military related reseach instead of into legitimate technology and scientific development. We could be a far more advanced and socially just civilization if our resources were going to the right places.

Sorry about going off on a tangent... in my opinion Zach, it is probably the best opportunity there is for education, but you'd surely have to go through army training too. It seems like you're morally opposed to what the military stands for so you're going to have to weigh the benefits against that. I think you should look into your other options first. If you want to go to college, there are bound to be lots of technological institutes that you can go to. Maybe you could find one close to a good footbag scene

My dad was a recruiter for the guard back in the day. He's still in it now

He says it's almost certin you will serve a tour of duty somewhere, most likely Iraq.

I wouldn't do it. I would fine other aveunes to get the same education but hey, I have alot of respect for people who do.

Good luck
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

replys!

thanks alot chris that really made me look at it in a different way an i see what i wanted to see i gess you could say. its crazy to think that one day ppl will look back on us in a 1000 years in history books an read about how militaryaly(did i make that word up?) advanced we are, an not about how technicaly advanced we are. an in my opinion id rather be technicaly advanced. someone yesterday told me how great the econamy an shits gonna be after this *war, but are we ever gonna get out of iraq? an i really dont aprove of are resones for being over there but who knows maybe it will be all worth it one day. any one elses thoughts?

i resently got a job an im geting paid well, and under the table. so im saveing money from each pay check an hopeing it builds up. once school starts im going to work hafe my dad that im at school, its called Co-Op an then after school i can work for a few months an go to collage. if i have the money. but im sure i can get a student loan or something. so i kinda got my whole situation figared out.

thanks for replying
