California, a sinking ship?

Post by HighDemonslayer » 03 Aug 2003 10:41

Is California going to be finished (broke, 3rd world state, etc.)?

You don't have to comment if you vote.

If you comment......
Why or why not? What was the cause?
I would give more weight to responses from Cali. residents or those near the border of the state.

Is this referring to the economic situation or the fact that it's sinking into the ocean?

Yeah Slapnut, I should have specified " the economy and other sectors would sink. "

And Yeah, I'm kind of jealous of all the shredders and nice weather. :)

I've found that Americans, generally, are an alright people, but as a whole...
The other night I was watching our local news and I saw a small story about Arnie running for governer. I saw his dodging of some rather important questions, and then I saw some cowboy (I think his last name is Bush) going on about how 'The Terminator' is a good choice for Governer.

You know... At that point, I felt ill. I honestly felt like I was going to throw up. I mean, after the BS of Bush's election, you'd think I'd find the whole thing comical. But no. America is a powerfull nation, and it's run by a cheat!

Not only that, but in an important position of government, the election is being campaigned by a guy who's the but of HEEPS of jokes (whatchu talkin' about, Willis?), a porn star, and someone who goes by the nick-name 'The Terminator'!

As a subjective observer, I've got to ask... Does America take Government seriously? Do Americans truely understand the relevance of voting? Is there even a point of going to the polls?

I hope I haven't offended anyone, but I'm just saying my piece as a non-american. The USA has taken on a lot of responsiblilty in world affairs and has steped on a good many toes. We're in a pretty messed up time at the moment, and I hope that the american people can start making some intelligent decisions when it comes to pollitics.

Basicly, I feel that America as a whole takes the democratic process for granted, and that a few arseholes have taken advantage of that (Bush and up-and-coming Calafornian elections).
And, yes. America is the most powerfull country in the world today and, as history shows, it's not afraid to use nuclear weapons. The fact that America will invade other countries under false pretenses is a little disturbing, too. So, yeah, anything america does that's pretty stupid hit's the news here.

That's not to say that I don't like Americans as individuals. I just disagree with American policies.

Not afraid to use nukes? Really? I'd like to hear the long list of countries that were nuked by the U.S.

And thank God we dropped those 2 nukes. A lot of us reading this wouldn't be around right now if those bombs weren't used. Hundreds of thousands of our grandfathers would have had to die on the beaches of mainland Japan. Millions more Japanese would have perished fighting to the death to defend the island.

Anyone with common sense knows that it would have been New York, Washington, London,or San Francisco to be vaporized first if the Axis won the atomic race.

I don't mind skepticism of U.S. policies, but the hand-wringing over WWII nukes has to stop. Especially from people that remained free (and alive) thanks to those nukes.

Sometimes it's a shame that majority rules, and not comon sence. I only hope that the majority of Americans are like the people on this board, only I fear that they're not.

Yeah, sorry about that. My coment is probably a bit unreasonable there. It's just a shame that so many people had to die in such an horific way. The thing is, in war, there are no rules. It's all about organised mass murder.
It also shits me that America continues to devolip it's nuclear arsinal while going ballistic (excuse the pun) over North Korea's nuclear program. Now I don't believe that Nth Korea should have nuclear weapons, but I think if that's an issue for America, they should lead the way and begin a total disarmament of all their nuclear weapons. Besides, didn't it all start because N Korea wants to build a Nuclear power plant to supply energy to it's people? And hasn't America got trade restrictions on N Korea, leaving them with no other choice but to build said power plant?
