Sex or Violence?
After reading the Hunting for Bambi thread, I'm lead to ask...
Which is worse: Sex or Violence?
This is in relation to televison.
I find it's funny (the sick kind of funny, not the ha ha funny) that violence is so prevalent in the media, but sex is frowned upon.
I mean, I've growen up watching movies like 'Platoon' and 'Full Metal Jacket' since before I was ten, but still I feel awkward talking about sex with my parents, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's in the same boat.
Could that be why there's so much hate and violence in the world, and why sexually transmitted diseases are on the increase (as well as teenage pregnancy)? The fact that violence is ok, but sex is unacceptable is obvious when you look at the prime time movie that will be shown on your tv's tonight. I'm sure you'll see a number of people die tonight on TV, but the sex is hidden behind some corney song and a whole lot of inuendo.
Post or don't post your POV, but at least vote.
You have two options, and only two options. Think of the most graphic depictions of both before you vote. And then concider what that means to you.

I think violence.
Sex is fun.
Killing people, hurting people, etc. is bad.
Plus, Sex is a way that everyone in the world relates.

The way I see it is, Violence leads to the death of a human being, sex essentially leads to the birth of a human being.
I would rather show my kids sex and violence on television and tell them the truth about the basis behind both (killing is bad, sex is good) and tell them why this is so.
" When you are older, your going to experience both of these things, and there is a time and a place for each of them. "
I would definately wait until they aren't at a very impressionable age, I would wait until they are old enough to digest the things that I say and make up their own mind about it.

People have to many kids, which leads to overpopulation. Sex used to be about survival of the human race, now we don't need to worry about survival, so it's not necessary for everyone to be having sex.
Although, I guess it's fun, but I'm a virgin.

Well, I think the fact that no-one is realy touching the subject in any way other than inuendo, that sex is prefferred over voilence.
But why is it that violence is still prominant in the media?
Why is it that action films do better than romance?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why sex is still very much taboo in cinima, but a high body count fills seats? Perhaps it has to do with the fact that we are still a primitive species, subconsiously thursting for the power struggle and fight to the death?
From the majority of posts above, it's clear that we enjoy sex, but find violence entertaining. Does this seam warped to anyone else? The fact that we enjoy the whole creation of life, but we still whoop and cheer when life is taken away.

While I believe that sex is completely acceptable and violence is not, I think that clearly we live in a society where Violence is much more acceptable. I guess this ultimatly stems back to the christian backgrounds to most of our societies (I gather there are a few people who come from non christian countries on this board). I can see sex becoming more acceptable but I can't see violence becoming less acceptable.

Violence and sex are human nature.
In the mass media however, violence has always been present (cowboy movies, John Wayne, etc.). And sex has been used to sell any and every product under the sun.
I forgot what my point was.
Oh yeah, sex can be just as devastating as violence. Look at the AIDS explosion in Africa.
See what happens when you can't keep your dick in your pants.

Ok, to be serious.
Sex is great.
I love violence. It rocks. I could watch millions of car explosions, people getting killed, riots, everything. I just like to study that. Like I will go to Choosedeath.com or Rotten.com and just look around. Violence is something I am not going to be going around and killing everybody, but I do enjoy watching fights to deaths on movies and stuff like that. When it comes to real life, I've only seen one person die, and it's scary. Real scary. But, I did not dwell on seeing it, and I moved on pretty much the next day.
BTW, It was some bum who got hit on the railroad when I used to Flatland Freestyle Skateboard.
