Black Lavers

Post by Laroche » 13 Aug 2010 06:54

So I picked up a pair of black lavers from ebay at a good price, and they finally came in! Problem is, they're different then the mesh one's I'm used to.. these aren't full leather, or canvas, but they have a lot more padding and a leather toe.

See the link below for an example picture (stupid google images makes it tough to link just the picture)

My question is, how many of you have these pairs and which mods have you done to get them to work? I like the shoe, but some of that bulk weight and the toe leather have to go.

I think John Gooode has something similar to that (g00d3). That seems to play well once modded.

Yeah, I have a pair of those black ones just as walking shoes, but I also use a pair of leather lavers that are a similar weight. They're great if you want traction, but the weight takes getting used to. They're clunkers for sure

I saw John's at worlds and didn't realize they were the same -- since I have a pair like them in black. I modded them nicely and everything but they are just too heavy I think. Return them if you can.

edit; the real extra weight comes from the sole, which is a different rubber than china lavers. Modding the leather won't help much with weight

Hey dude, did some research for ya... here are some mesh ones. Not sure what size you wear so sorry if they're not your size

edit: as long as you mod your leather toes off, you should be good... you'll just have a "cup-ier" toe area than usual

i have seen this shoe come up 3 times now, and every one says the sole is much too heavy. Possible that it's the old slovenian sole being used on them?

Those are not mesh Holly! These are the same Nick already has ;). Look at the toe carefully!

The toe might not be mesh, but the rest of the shoe certainly appears to be.

Yeah I'm pretty peeved, a return might be in order. Why can't they just make nice mesh lavers, why are we forced to wear ugly shoes all the time?!?!?!?!?!?!

p.s: Yes, black mesh proper lavers exist but are rare, so rare shoes don't count in my rant.

Thanks for help everyone.

Well, I don't quite see what it matters since they're just shoes, but what's wrong with getting the white ones and making them not "ugly" yourself? I didn't like mine white so I colored them yellow.

I'm not smearing my shoes with some marker. I like the look of lavers, but the coloring on them is hideous. IMO.

Well, you could use spraypaint instead, or you could airbrush them. I understand to a degree where you're coming from because usually with shoes and clothing there are only so many choices as far as color and patterns, etc. What bugs me is the fact that adidas has a customizable shoe shop thing on their website, but Rod Lavers aren't included in the customizable shoe selection. Stan Smiths are, but I have no idea how they'd be for footbag. I guess you'll either just have to deal with what's available or color them yourself. They're gonna eventually get dirty and ugly anyway, though. And now that I think about it, spraypaint might not be a great idea. My friend spraypainted a pair of work boots blue, and they ended up having this slick, hard coating, sort of like the candy shell on M&Ms. That wouldn't work too well for footbag...

Hey I picked some of these black leather ones and was just wondering if the inner layer was black as well, cause if they aren't, my parents will shoot me if i mod them.

Stephen,

look inside the shoe. what you see in there is what you will see when you remove the leather. If it's white on the inside, it will be white when you mod the shoes. I recommend you get some cash together and give it to your parents for the shoes. After all, you didn't get them so they can frustrate you by not doing their job correctly while you kick, right?

Well I got these in the mail today and I think the stalling surfaces are almost better than on the mesh lavers, so I won't need to mod them. They are really heavy tho.

I don't think they're hideous. Even on my new pair where its just white and black people they're Quantums, or rare lavers :)

Eww... look at the copper tone on those Lavers! The permanent marker coloring is smeared and ugly! D:

Personally, I use black fabric markers to get a nice straight look on my Lavers. I do the same with my Quantums, so that I can patch up the areas where the black decal on the soles smear off. I'll try to get a picture up on and post it in this topic.

But, I would like to address that there are people that don't ever want to color/paint their Lavers a certain color. It's too much work, the color job can flake and smear during shred and if you don't do it right it makes your shoes look messy. I feel for Nick's resentment on this part, since he's been kicking with the same HOT pair of blue mesh MEN's Lavers ever since I first met him at Kickass 2 in the Fall of 2006! He needs a pair of sexy Lavers for his very sexy shred, I assure you. :P

Hey Nick...
Someone just posted a thread about these. Not sure they can ship to you but it's a lead...
