no way, why do all bags have to have a precise gather? I think it looks dope. I would also be interested in shredding a bag like that. I find lower gather bags can also break in faster and thus you get more shred out of it.calemccoy wrote:try upping your gather... thats way too low in my opinion.
Not to say I don't love medium and high gather bags either. Just that all ranges have there benefits!
First think about how to practice or don't bother practicing.

i understand people like different kinds of bags... thats why i said it was just my opinion. ive tried to play with bags that were that low gather, and didnt like it at all... and playability to me is more importnat than appearance. but yes, i think it looks like amazing stitching... just not what i would pick.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
edit: I'm sewing three bags right now, working on each of them based on whim. I'll try to post them all by Tuesday and whatever.

I fell sick over the weekend, so I didn't get much stitching done. Just R&R. Here's what I managed to make, though:

It's a 4-stitch hybrid, Flash Red pents and amaretta hexes with a 12/8 pattern. Medium high gather, I think? I used an extra large template and it came out nice. Loosely filled at 55.5 grams while still keeping its shape through play. I'm really proud in how this bag came out, to be honest (floppy performance while maintaining a ball-like shape).
Here's a mini I made while arriving back from NYJ:

It didn't come out like I wanted. Tulip and Burgundy, 50 grams lead.

Tulip and Burgundy are both really thin facile colors, so yeah, I guess it plays just as well. I like to think that facile quality and colors, and other fabrics like microsuede and amaretta, each perform differently on their own on a footbag. Filler exploits a fabric's performance in certain ways. The sewing technique you apply on a footbag can be variable from what is seen on the other bags you make, but it really depends on the mood you have with the materials in front of you and how you work with them.
I can't really answer your question, Alf. The bags I make is what I see of them after they're created, and I don't have an opinion of my bags under certain sizes. I just know it's easier to make higher gather bags with amaretta and microsuede (and they make for instantly shreddable bags), and I know what fillers to use to make my bags perform well.
