Will you ever stop stitching?

Post by vettehunter123 » 13 Jul 2007 23:27

This came to mind after I made my first bag of the summer (over a month ago). It's nice to have a little break every once in a while but when it comes down to it, I love to stitch bags. Period.

How cool would it be to have regular stitchers on modified today, still making bags when they are 80 years old? Imagine how amazing those bags would be.

Do you think you will ever stop making bags?

80 year old bags? 8O You'd probably just keep stabbing yourself with the needle and having miscut shapes. They'd probably also have some old person musky smell  I think it could become some sort of hobby though, considering that it's slightly profitable
Practice makes perfect - it's as simple as that

I've thought about this alot actually.

My situation is a little different than what you described, I will soon be getting 'grown up' type jobs now that I have graduated from university. This made me ask myself if I will continue to stitch after the income part of it stops being an issue.

I think that for sure I will continue making bags for myself, as I don't intend to stop shredding and I don't see any point in buying bags if I can make my own. But will I keep taking orders? Probably not for very much longer.

i think I might end up like lonn: too injured to continue stitching at all. between playing guitars, typing a lot, and holding footbags still while I stitch them, my left forearm takes a beating. it hurts now as I type this. So, probably not forever. or maybe there will be a long hiatus somewhere.

Yeah.. that's my problem.. I play so damned much that I can't stitch for long before I become useless....

ugh, no way. It might be better than working at mcdonalds but it isn't fun. it is nice to have bags and cash just a short 3 hours work away though.

I get arthritis sometimes, but I enjoy stitching. So I agree with your point Travis on the joys of stitching. I'm too modest of a person when it comes to selling them, though. I like giving bags away to people who do me a lot of good favors or that I feel indebt to in some particular way.

So my answer is: maybe.

PS: If I continue to get a lot of feedback from people to switch my filler to lead or Tungsten instead of my usual steel shot, I'm thinking about quitting as of right now.

A poll would be good for this thread.

I started stitching after I had a job and will continue as long as I can. Some days there is no desire to stitch and others, it is all I can think about. My answer would be probably not. Maybe when I am old enough to have a hard time seeing where the needle goes is when I will stop.
