Fabric in Europe?

Post by tacit » 20 Aug 2015 10:50

Hi, I've lurked around on modified for quite a while and recently I've been getting interested in picking up the game again.

I also juggle and I used to stitch my own balls so it wasn't a leap to start stitching footbags. However I couldn't really find any facile or ultrasuede in fabric shops over here, so I'd just use cotton. Now I would like to "get real" and just get decent fabric. I figured with all the experienced stitchers over here, there's bound to be someone from Europe, who has some advice on fabric?

Should I just buy USL in bulk from fields to keep the cost down? Maybe someone's interested in doing a small "group buy", so we can split shipping costs?
Or is there another fabric that's "just as good"? Maybe amaretta is more available in Europe? I have found a source for alcantara, which is often used for car seats apparently, but the minimum amount is 0.5m which seems like a lot of fabric especially if I'd want more than one color (the website is in dutch, I'm from Belgium, https://www.stoffen.net/20-alcantara293 ... 7s3q0k6esz)
I'm just a beginner so I'm guessing those fabrics would be fine, but being a beginner I could use some input from more experienced stitchers.

Please forgive me if this is covered in other posts. I couldn't really find anything but maybe I missed something.

Alcantara is nice, I've used it a before. Some of it is a bit thicker than USL, though softer.
If you can find amaretta, there would be an army of stitchers waiting at your door... or just me.
I think you should PM Marco Hartig or find him on FB, he would be your best bet for fabric buying advice.

Thank you, I'll contact Marco.
Btw, you seem like a great stitcher and your video tutorial is really good!
