It's been about a month since I posted.

Worlds is done and dusted.

This was my little contribution (sideline events)

https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-worl ... ne-events/

The whole idea was to have something that players who weren't going in the main events, could have something to go for. Thanks to Bruce Li in China, there was some decent competition in each event.

I feel I could have done a bit more to boost the event up etc, but we really got into a vortext of time consuming things.

Before we get to that, let's talk about my birthday.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CTk3zP5htRz/

I am 37 now, so in reality I should be probably winding down in terms of ability and skill and speed and whatever. But you look at Ken and Lon, and further into the future some of these older players and maybe there's still a while to go. Maybe also my counting is not what it once was.

Anyway, we are still in lockdown so for my birthday we had a Google Meet + Kahoot Quiz. Nothing like doing exactly what you do all day long for your part. But it worked quite well and was quite fun. Since we're on a footbag blog - Caroline, Copey and Dyalan were in attendance. It was good to have people from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane etc, a bunch of places in Australia.

Another day I'll do a personal review into Worlds and how I went, but I was glad to compete in each event. I wasn't really happy about how I went in any of them, particularly Shred 30. That was my big hope after last year and probably my worst result. I have a feeling I had a slightly higher scoring video but maybe I sent the wrong one. Didn't make much difference anyway.

Will be interesting to see what the scenario for next year is. I have no idea at this stage.

Hello friends. It's been a long time since I posted on here. We're coming back to a more "normal" kind of lifestyle now, back at school and all of that.

We had our first little trip away over the weekend, just down to visit Dad, but it was great to see some new scenery.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CV6QW5AB6Gx/

With the life coming back to normal, we're back in the gym membership thing. I've barely gone into the gym but I like to use the pool and kick before I go in.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CWC97iRJS7N/

A lot of clips have been from here in the backyard.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CULij_WhQJ5/

We've actually been able to go out and about for a fair while, but I haven't done many posts with cool backgrounds etc.

I just put a post on the Facebook group asking if anybody is running the Joulukalenteri this year. As December is in a few weeks and I haven't heard any rumblings of it. I hope so, I've had a video in for maybe 7 or so years in a row now so that would be a good streak to continue. Over this lockdown time I've been trying to put up some short clips of my own on Twitter from time to time.

https://twitter.com/capitaleyes/status/ ... 4869182469

It's interesting to see some of the feedback on there, as it's not your usual "footbag crowd" - say if I post a combo on Instagram, there's at least 30 people who are generally following footbag related stuff, and a couple of them might have something to say.

https://twitter.com/capitaleyes/status/ ... 7043736578

One more from Twitter, 3 point basketball shot and then a little footbag run.

What else am I up to? Back to school, so that takes most of the time. Writing reports now which is probably exactly why I'm writing this post. I've been looking a lot into family heritage stuff. I did one of those "DNA test" things, not really sure what that will find out.

Joulu time.

This is my personal entry for the Joulukalenteri. I've managed to put something in every year since 2014. There's been a few nice comments for each video, but that's the general problem in footbag - there are just a few people spread across various platforms.

I'm trying to cover across most platforms.

https://twitter.com/footbag

https://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24137

https://sportslashlife.com/2021-footbag-joulukalenteri/

In terms of kicking, I haven't played that much. All Jim's links are beyond me for the "Open" level. I've done most of the "Intermediate" ones. I liked this heel wrap>dragon one. That was a new combo for me.

There's going to another online NYJ, this unique combo sounds like a cool contest. https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-nyj- ... k-contest/

Anyway, this week it's going to be 20 years since the 2001 Australian Footbag Champs. I'm going to do a little thing as part of the Joulu and link to a couple of things I have found. Hopefully next year we will be able to do some kind of event, that would be fun. Anyway, I went to the Olympic stadium (that's where the comp was, it was only the year after the Olympics). I took a few videos but only had a really short time, then Nico fell over while running around, so that made the time more limited.

Anyway, glad to have the Joulu running for another year, it's good to have lots of people thinking/talking about footbag on the day to day basis. I'm hoping I can hit at least one of the Open combos, but I'm not so sure about that.

Nice entry for the calendar! I liked the barrage ending on inside, makes me feel like I should use inside on the end of more tricks that I normally would only end on toe. And a nice hand catch to end the run

Alrighty, haven't posted here for a long while. The Joulu is done with, and I'm glad that's finished up. I might go through today and see what I've got so far for the LOTD.

I like those inside type combos, a bit of variety without much change.

A little look on footbag in the year along the way.

Scavenger Hunt

This was a bit of fun, but probably a bit challenging for many people to do. I took advantage of this and won a couple of bags for my trouble. I also entered NYJ. I'll enter again, there's a cool points based competition, based on unique components. I've got an entry ready, but I would like to improve upon that.

https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-nyj- ... k-contest/

I'd also like to get a higher score for the Rippin Run.

Worlds was online again, I found it really difficult this year to get the time in and make a decent entry.

I also ran a consecutive kicks competition and a couple of other sideline events, it was good to see some of the newer players having a go in that.

https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-worl ... ne-events/

And I ran the Joulukalenteri. That's the second time I've done that, this time I had Jim to do the Link of the Day - they were certainly not easy. I think there'll have to be a switchup, maybe looking at more unique type tricks in there for next year's event.

As part of the thing I did a few interviews.

Erik Chan - https://sportslashlife.com/2021-footbag ... ic-videos/
Lynton Stephens - https://sportslashlife.com/2021-footbag ... interview/
Andy Linder - https://sportslashlife.com/2021-footbag ... interview/
Jim Penske - https://sportslashlife.com/2021-footbag ... interview/

I did one demo this year, at the Northside Sports Day. That feels like it was at least 5 years ago, but it was less than a year ago. I showed plenty of students at the school footbag, and gave each kid in my class a bag. It will be interesting to see if any of them pick it up a bit.

January

I wouldn't say I have kicked a whole lot this month. I also haven't not kicked at all. I just made a post in a different thread, Worlds are happening In Real Life this year. Don't think it's going to be on my agenda, but I think it's a great step forward. It could also be an option, but I don't really want to go all the way to Europe for a week.

I've sent off something to Bruce for the Chinese New Year thing and I will send something to Ryan for the NYJ. I'm not that happy with the runs I've been getting, I would have really liked something longer.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CZOKGouJxtO/

https://www.instagram.com/p/CZDXxFvp1Np/

https://www.instagram.com/p/CY-NENCJ5vr/

I haven't done that many of the LOTD tricks. I wasn't able to hit any of the open combos. Some of the basic tricks I can do. The one that is whirring swirl>motion sickness I originally read as whirling swirl>motion sickness and I think I could hit that at some point, so that's something I will keep working on.

We were able to get away a few times during the holidays. I'm hoping to make a couple more vlogs from the travels. That might be something for tonight.

The first session of the year I did more than 50 five add tricks. https://twitter.com/capitaleyes/status/ ... 2703180801

The only ones I did BSOS were phoenix and darkwalk. I did the following BS
  • Phoenix
    Spinning Ducking Butterfly
    Spnning Ducking Osis
    Blurry Whirl
    Motion
    Pixie Diving Osis
    Pixie Ducking Butterfly Kick
    Paradox Blender
    Darkwalk
    Frontside Legbeater
    Ducking PS mirage
I would like to bulk that list out to 100+ by the end of the year. Since I did 50 in one session, that shouldn't be too hard. But obviously it gets harder once you have hit a lot of the moves.

We just had Nico's birthday today, it was a successful party in the park. It rained all day yesterday and it's raining now, so we timed it well. I've also continued playing indoor soccer. We had a couple of decent wins the last couple of weeks, we probably hadn't won in months before the holiday break so that's a positive.

Congratulations on the 5 add trick session! Kevin and Byrin used to do sessions like that where they would try and hit as many 5 or 6 add moves as possible. It is a good way to practice for sick trick.

I haven't added to much to that list recently, though I'm sure I've done some extra tricks. Since I'm posting here, here's something of me. Just one trick, in sandals.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CaHH8I-Jubi/

We went to Sydney for the weekend, it was my Grandma's 90th birthday, that was a good time. Back at home now and lots of various things coming up.

It's been a while since I posted.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CZwBx-npBqx/

https://twitter.com/capitaleyes/status/ ... 5252300801

I made a few vlogs of our time away in school holidays. There's bits and pieces of kicking throughout.

I didn't include footage in the video, though I did get some, of me riding down the river on a bodyboard. It was a bit shallower than I expected, so it didn't end up so great for me (that's why I didn't put it in the video...)

Worlds are going to be in Poland this year. Good a real life event is going to happen. Don't really think it's going to be on my menu. We'll be doing a trip to Cairns around that time, then it's looking like Chile at the end of the year. Nice that even the thought of travel is coming to be an option.

I won the Rippin Run with the competition for NYJ. Cool one. Ryan put a lot of effort into this and cool idea so a little disappointing to see so few people competing.

Here's the other comp

New bags from Hania. Just received today.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CaoT9jZrR3n/

https://www.instagram.com/p/CaYGKazh07z/

I've also got an order in for a whole bunch of footbags to have/sell/give away etc. They should be coming soon enough. That was seeming like a problem for me as I was running low on money, but then I got a payment from the hostel for long service leave. I've barely worked there in recent years but each little shift was adding a bit more to that payment once I finally handed in a resignation.

A few interesting footbag related things from my association there, including a number of competitions in other hostels, getting good deals/ free stays to go and stay at certain places.

Off to Sydney for a wedding on the weekend.

Made a little vlog from the most recent trip down the coast.

I'm playing the waiting game at the moment - went and got a PCR test to see if I have covid. The rapid tests were saying no, but many people test negative on them then positive with the more serious equipment, including our neighbours.

Was hoping to have the result yesterday, hopefully some time this morning. No news is good news (?). It's either a strong version of a regular old common cold, or a light version of Covid. I'm think "it's just a cold" (and not Covid). But we'll see.

I got a large box of footbags in the mail yesterday - will be good to have some extra stock to sell, give away etc, I was down to my last few from an order I made about 5 years ago, maybe even longer.

I don't have much to report footbag wise. I don't even have any new instagram posts since my last post on here and I've barely used the bags I received from Hania, that will all come in good time.

Here's a video with a beach view from Pichilemu, Chile.

Situation is OK at the moment, life is coming back to more or less normal. There are more cases but I haven't got it so far. There are more cases in schools, but I've avoided that too.

Had a very good weekend at the beach, it was really needed. Did a few good footbag runs with pleasant views. I'll put together some video over the coming days. I've been thinking a lot about tricks starting and ending with inside stalls. It adds a lot of options. I saw someone do something about outside stalls too and was doing bits and pieces with that.

People were asking the other day if a Poland worlds is a good idea. I think it's fine - it's good to have Euros and Worlds close by in distance and time, it seems life in Poland is business as usual, they've put in the work to get things ready. There's also so many top players in that region, even if nobody comes from far and wide, you still have a strong selection of Polish and Czech players.

I won't be going this year. The timing doesn't work well, it's not in school holidays. We will be looking to do a trip to Chile at the end of the year. I've signed up for a credit card that earns frequent flyer points recently. Hopefully I will be able to boost up enough of them to either just have the trip cost close to nothing, or at least put a big dent in the price.

There's been a bunch of videos on Youtube lately that don't seem to get shared more widely - here's one of Flash, Jim and Lon.

A little idea I have, that would probably take a lot of work, is have a little player profile directory, so when a video comes out, you link it to those players that were in the video, then you can see a little profile, which clubs they have belonged to, tournament results etc. I've mentioned this many times before but I'm thinking I have the idea for how i'd like it set up so I may begin working on that soon.

A couple of little vlogs I have done lately. One includes me kicking footbag in the middle of a bunch of kangaroos. It is in an area where people feed them all the time so they are fairly still.

https://sportslashlife.com/capital-eyes ... pot-beach/

https://sportslashlife.com/capital-eyes ... 6-nelsons/

I've got a little Gopro type camera that I barely ever use, so I've been trying to make some more out of that. We had a good trip down there to the beach. It's school holidays next week so I'm hoping to get down to the coast at some point.

I was able to get a few decent footbag runs in there, though I didn't have long sessions. With those holidays coming up hopefully I'll get some decent sessions in as well.

The Tokyo Shredder Gathering is on at the moment. Anyone can submit the combos. I've been a bit more active with the footbag Twitter. Here's the list of challenges.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1510 ... 93665.html

I think I can hit most of the advanced combos, but if I can do it on video will be the test.

Advanced
- Atomsmasher>Smoke OR Barrage>Paradon
- Diving Butterfly>Zulu Osis OR Gyro Whirl>Spinning Osis
- Toe Blur>Omelette OR Stepping SS Osis>Stepping Whirl
- Whirr>PDX DLO OR Ripstein>Reaper
- Tomahwak>Mobius OR Bedwetter>Phoenix

The fourth set of combos I probably won't be able to do - ripstein>reaper may be a possibility.

May, getting on in the year already. I feel I've been a bit slow on the footbag front, but this week I've been playing more, getting in some more decent time in the sessions.

I hit phoenix>ducking motion a few days ago, I think that combo is new. Some decent runs but none really as long as I would like. I've had some goes at the Tokyo Shredder Gathering combos. I've hit a couple, and there's a few more I've had on my foot but haven't been able to get the catch.

https://twitter.com/capitaleyes/status/ ... 2236494851
Atomsmasher>smoke and toe blur>omelette both go in that category.

I also did a bunch of the intermediate combos together.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccmfm2XAkJa/

I haven't done this in a while but I did a little "Footbag on Instagram" collection from the past month - https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-on-i ... pril-2022/

We've just had the school holidays. Back for a new term. Will try and get some more regular sessions going. Will probably play at the gym more now we're coming into the colder times.

A couple of combos from recent sessions.

- DATW>pixie motion
- pixie ducking osis>ducking legover rpt

Haven't really been able to get decent long runs. Few good moves here and there but I'm not super happy with how I'm playing at the moment.

I started going with this project I have mentioned before, creating Footbag Player Profiles. https://sportslashlife.com/tag/footbag-player-profiles/ I've only put a few up so far, but I've kind of figured out the way to do that.

I joined up to one of the Canadian sessions online the other day. Rory, Dylan Fry and Zach were in on that. I could only play for a while before my dear children took me away from that.

Halfway through the school term, at the end of the term it will be halfway through the year. Not that I'm counting down or anything, but there's some hard going this year.

Phoenix > ducking motion is awesome! Thanks for putting together the footbag on instagram posts, fun to see. I feel you on the length of runs, not sure if its stamina or not taking enough time to rest between strings, but if I ever have a run longer than 6-8 contacts its probably got a lot of bails to legover and lame things like that.

It's been too long since I've posted in, but not too much to report on the footbag front. I'm going to try and play more. It's the school holidays soon so hopefully there's some chances there. We're going up to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef so hopefully I can make some cool videos.

I'm catching the bus up to Sydney right now. It's been a long time since I've caught a bus for a long distance journey. They have this Vivid festival with buildings lit up etc, I might try and get some videos around some of them.

We went to Sydney last week and I saw a bit of it from a distance.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ces_kffLK6_/

Looking through my Instagram, I played a bit on this stage in Lane Cove, which is near my Grandma's house. This would be a good place to have a proper comp some time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cer26WXBDdS/

They are changing various formats for Worlds. Shorter routines. No circle (battles instead). No Shred 30. Some kind of round robin thing for Sick 3 which I haven't looked into the detail of. It's aimed at being better for crowds but I have a feeling there's not going to be huge crowds there. I have a feeling they got the balance right in Poland last time - have the regular events etc - then have the cool events with a crowd that are not part of the competition.

I'm not going, so it's not a big deal.

I feel I've been kicking a little more regularly lately. Still not getting as many tricks as I would like or as many long runs. But I've been working on some various drills.

Pixie ss mirage>tap rpt was one I was eventually able to do.
Drifter>spinning butterfly I got on each side but couldn't get the full round. Lots of those kinds of things, just a couple of tricks that aren't exactly matching but I can put into something.

I did something for the Footbag on Instagram posting. https://sportslashlife.com/footbag-on-i ... june-2022/

Some interesting things in there - Wiktor Debski into the Hall of Fame, I think that's definitely well deserved, on both playing and organising fronts. 20 Years for the DST Footbag Club in Poland.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CfLRImGAXX8/

I've had a couple of games of squash recently with my friend. It's a good game. I also got a very old squash racquet from the op shop the other day, vintage style. I'm on school holidays now for the next two weeks. This is very exciting and important news. We will go to Cairns in a few days for a bit of warm weather. We've booked a trip to the Great Barrier Reef which includes a waterslide into the water, definitely looking forward to that.

I've been playing a fair bit lately. I mentioned we were heading to warm weather and the Great Barrier Reef. Never happened. We got as far as Sydney then had to turn around with Jasmine going down with Covid. The rest of the family has followed, though not me as yet. I'm certainly expecting it though. We will see what happens.

I've been doing a few different drills over the days.

Here's a few

magellan>ss symp mirage (rpt)
pixie ss mirage b2b>terrage b2b
swirl>drifter rpt
osis>ducking osis rpt
butterfly>torque rpt
dimwalk>torque>schmoe (both sides)
sidwewalk>ripwalk rpt x 2
tapdown>double pickup (both sides)

A few tricks I've either never hit or have not hit for a long time

enterrage
outside set ss motion
quantum osis
pixie ss eggbeater

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf8PUXSgkSP/
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf2_Tj4AATX/
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf0B64upsPZ/

I got a vlog done, and also finishing up a new issue of a zine, which I haven't done for about ten years. So I guess there's some productivity happening but kind of getting quite over it.

Why hello.

Worlds has been and gone. Also Euros the week before and Jim Penske held a jam in the USA in recent times too. Plenty happening footbag wise. Not so much here, but I kicked for a decent hour or so today.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg3k30Vgmq6/

This first combo I had close to landing with an extra trick on the end, I was trying to add ducking PS mirage but dropped it.

https://sportslashlife.com/world-footba ... in-poland/
https://sportslashlife.com/jaworzno-hos ... pionships/

I wrote a couple of things. There's also links to various videos in those posts.

I see the Quantums are shipping out soon. It's been quite the wait. Hopefully they last a while.

I feel my runs are building back up now. I'm putting more time into doing proper sessions and that's starting to pay off, sometimes. We'll be in Queensland next month so hopefully going to have a kick with Caroline when we go up there.
