Hi Footbag fans,
On behalf of IFPA's Worlds Operating Committee, I'm pleased to announce that the 2015 IFPA World Footbag Championships will be held next summer from July 26-August 1 (2015) in Copenhagen, Denmark!

As usual, more information will be posted on footbag.org. The event listing page and official website are in progress, but we wanted to let everyone know the basic details as soon as we could.

We're very excited to have Copenhagen host the event for the first time, and we have the utmost confidence in this team. We look forward to working with the team in Denmark to bring you all a great event next summer!

If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact the IFPA Worlds Operating Committee at <woc@ifpa.footbag.org>.
You can also contact the host club in Copenhagen atwww.facebook.com/FootbagDenmark, or directly to Nis Petersen at <nis_petersen@hotmail.com>.

We hope you all can make it!
Best regards,
Wiktor Dębski
IFPA Executive Director
Worlds Operating Committee
wiktordebski@footbag.org
So the big announcement is out! WORLDS ARE IN COPENHAGEN! I am fucking excited!
I guess now is a good time that I share what have been going on and why it took us so damn long. We had the perfect venue, WOC was ready to make the announcement, we just needed the final confirmation from the venue. It looked like a formality but all of a sudden they had to renovate big parts of the venue during the dates we had settled on. The announcement is finally out since we have found a secondary venue, which is also great! I look forward to see you all in Copenhagen in the summer of 2015.

I will continue to share my experiences of organizing Worlds here and might bounce a few ideas off of you guys. Also feel free to ask any questions you might have.

The Art of Good Practice

Here is a great talk by Rodney Mullen on the nuanced way in which they go about it can be the biggest determinant of success— especially at groundbreaking levels. Tuning the dynamic balance of the analytic methods by which we learn with the internal sense or feel for the whole of what we're learning is an art, specific to the individual as well as the task. The better we tune our practice, the more practice will make perfect. This translates super well to footbag practice and is really interesting!

I updated my portfolio if any of you are interested in that kind of stuff..

I need to find time to kick!

Long time no see!

Since September I have been taking a course in Project Management at the IT University of Copenhagen. That combined with having a full time job has meant that for the past couple of months I haven’t had no time for footbag.
I finally had my exam on tuesday(I got an A) and now I have time to play footbag and focus on Worlds again. Excited!

I made my glorious return to footbag yesterday at our weekly thursday session. In attendance were Nis Petersen, Kim Mortensen, Mathias Blau, Mads Neuhard and Andreas Hald.

Nis were playing in a pair of Lavers that Mathias used to play in when he was still a young teenager. Nis had high hopes for their magic Flurry abilities but I didn’t really see him do any of those.

I know I’ve said it before but Mads Neuhard still has one of the best styles in Denmark and maybe the world. I could watch that man Pixie all day. From now on I will call him Mads “ManPixie” Neuhard.

Mr. Blau is still having some ankle issues which makes it hard for him to crank. He still did 10 Blurry Whirls midrun. He also hit XBD Toe > Alpine Fog.

I didn’t see much of Andreas and Kim playing but what I saw I definitely liked.

I took it slow and just trying to get the basics back. Went better than expected, so that’s good. Lots of toe stalls, clippers and basic 2 adds.

I am excited to be back at it. Footbag! :footbag:

Second session back - this time in the yellow room. In attendance: Troels, Andreas, Nis, Mathias and yours truly.

I played with the Padawans Andreas and Troels and man have they gotten good. I am gonna play with them some more before I share highlights, since I am not completely sure what is real highlights and what is just me being stoked. We had a round of Sick3s. Troels hit Ripwalk > Whirl > Ducking Clipper, Andreas dropped on the last Clipper twice attempting Ripwalk > Same Pickup > Legbeater and I hit Quantum Legover > Terrage > Symposium Reverse Whirl.

I had a couple of highlights. Like hitting Drifter [bs] for the first time in years. Obviously, inspired by Nick Polinis video. Mathias also gave a great tip, focus on dexing with your lower leg instead of your thigh.

Speaking of dear Mr. Blau - me and him have been talking about going to the 17th FC Footstar Anniversary to shred and party with the Berlin crew. It is on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of March, which could work but I have some other travel plans lined up and taking Friday off from work could prove difficult. I will see what I can do though. I love the Berlin crew.

Thursday is the day of the week following Wednesday and before Friday. The name is derived from Old English Þūnresdæg and Middle English Thuresday, which means "Thor's day". Thursday is also the day of the legendary TORSDAGS FEST footbag sessions in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Yesterdays session might not go down in the long and proud history of Thursday sessions as one of the greats, but it sure still was fun. Only people in attendance were the old guard - Nis, Kim and Me.

It took a while for me to get warmed up, but that is okay I am still returning from a break. I also felt a little worse about my game today. Understandably though - I was playing with the big guys. I have started stretching after my warm up. I am amongst other things doing this stretch that Jorden once showed me. It is really good for loosing up da [url=http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2009/03/19/c ... ster-2.jpg]crank[/crank]. Maybe I should post some instructions on that.

Nis were playing really well. Bedwetters all over after he got a good tip from Young Neo Aka Mathias “Matrix” Blau: Set the bag in front of you, not under you.

I liked Stepping Whirl > Butterfly Swirl from Kim.

My main highlight was Slapdown [bsos]

In other footbag related news I now got a GoPro. The cheap one but none the less it should be better than the one I used for my Finland, which wasn’t great but definitely good enough.

If I end up going to Berlin it would be great place to give it’s baptism of fire.

Make it to Worlds Derek and we will meet for sure! :footbag:

I didn’t play any footbag last week but it was still a very footbag related week. Lots of work on Worlds and on Friday we had our (delayed) Footbag Denmark Christmas Dinner.

Image

The Christmas Dinner is a very important tradition in Footbag Denmark and it has been going on for many years. My first one was in 2010 but I am not sure when it really started. We eat dinner at Spiseloppen in Freetown Christiania, have a footbag lottery and drink a lot of beer. Older players come out and get introduced to the new ones and we talk about old times, footbag in general and have a good time with old and new friends.

In attendance this year were Lise, Verena, Paul, Frederik, Michael, Jan, Tobias, Rasmus, Nis, Mathias, Jasper, Troels, Andreas and myself. A couple of people missing but generally a good line-up.

Image

As a new thing we gave away two awards. A community award for a player who have done something special for the community this year and a progress award for the player with the most progress this year.

Jan won the community award for his videos and really coming through for our cottage trip.
Troels won the progress award. Proud of my padawan. His hard work is really paying off.

Image

The lottery is maybe the most important part of the night. It used to be gifts from Mads & Mads’ TRIO cave, but since they weren’t there this year, the rest of us had to chip in. Jan and Lise stitched bags and Lise brought some true gems from her collection.

I didn’t win anything but I still ended up going home with the thing I wanted the most. Jasper won this poster from Danish Champs 2005 that I used to have in my room in my parents basement. He had one already at home, so he gave it to me. Can’t wait to get it framed and hang it up. Thanks Jasper!

Image

Afterwards we went to a couple of bars and general mischief and hilarity ensued.

Session

Played kickbag yesterday with Nis and Verena. Verena has been travelling a bunch lately and generally been busy, so this what the first time I played with her in a long while. Was good to have her back. She was definitely a little out of shape but she is still damn good. Hope she keeps coming back and really gets ready for Whirly Worlds.

Nis was complaining that he had some foot pains and that meant he couldn’t bring his A-game. He sure still is good. I really liked a super deep midrun Pixie DOD from him.

Even though I had small break (a bit over a week), I still think I played the best since my comeback. A lot of stupid drops on easy shit but I will get over that soon enough. Ended the session with Phoenix > Reverse Whirlygig

GoPro

When I was done playing I tested the new GoPro out a bit. Definitely an update from my old camera. Looking forward to play more around with this. Maybe you will see something sooner than you think.

I am gonna do a big update on Worlds soon - promise!

Session yesterday in the yellow room. In attendance were Nis, Troels, Verena and a late and fairly short visit from Mr. Blau.

Nobody played well I think. I played okay. Nis was definitely struggling. Mathias has been having a bit of a break and it was just Verenas second or third session back from a long break. I thought Troels was playing fairly well, but he said it wasn’t good. He did hit DLO [bsos] which looked good. I had some good pixie shuffle and was happy hitting Symple Swirl [bsos]. I also hit a new link on camera.

I am already looking forward to play on thursday. Footbag!

Also this video is out.. I got the idea of Paul interviewing me about Worlds. He sent me a list of questions and I chose a couple I liked and added one or two. It was really weird sitting without nobody there and try to remember how to talk English. But I like how it turned out. Props to Sergio and Paul!

I don’t really know what to write about Worlds organizing/planning. All kinds of balls(bags?) in the air atm. Anything you guys wondering about in relation to organizing/planning and not the actual tournament?

Good session on thursday. Me and Kim biked together to the spot. Good to have him back. He said he got more time now. Outside we met Nis and inside Mathias was already ending his session. I saw him hit Blubberman > Rubberman > Pixieman > Fairyman. That is an injured player right there. Craziness. Andreas and Verena arrived soon after and we got down to bizness.

I played mainly with Kim but also with Verena. Kim was finding his game but I did catch him hitting Spinning Whirl bsos. I played good the first half hour and then I had a bit of a slump. Hit a good new Sick3 which I am gonna try working on and tweak a little. Probably gonna compete in Sick3 at Worlds and it wouldn’t be bad a thing to hit there.
I ended the session with hitting Spinning Symple Swirl which I haven’t hit in like 7 years or something like that. A beer and some Worlds take afterwards. Good times.

What is Pixieman? :)

My guess is Smear > Dimwalk > Blur > Repeat?

Also, for Worlds, would it be possible to record everyone on Circle/Request/Sick 3? Usually, people start recording Request when there's only a few people left, but I would like to see how people around my level are doing.
They've done this on Euro in Moscow I think and those are my favourite event videos.

I don't know if Pixieman even exist. I just thought it was easier to write it that way. You got it perfectly right.

About recording: I guess so. Only problem with Request is that the first runs are usually super boring :D

I had a session today in my old room at my mom's place. Since I rarely have solo sessions and even more rarely film them, I should make a little video. Pretty shitty but here is the video:

Nice edit, Quantum Whirl is really nice. Don't do Schmoe in front of the Finns, they don't like that trick :D (I don't know why)

The first rounds are actually more fun for me to watch than the later ones. Plus, if I can't be at that tournament, at least I can play that Request at home. 8)

But yesterday I finally made my return to the glorious halls of the almighty footbag gods.
In attendance were: Mathias Blau, Nis Petersen, Kim Mortensen, Andreas Hald and on the sidelines Jasper Johansen.

Nobody played really well. Mathias is still banged up, Nis is banged up, Kim is good at footbag but wasn’t feeling it, Andreas had ate too much and I was getting back in the swing of things.

I liked Phoenix > Blur [rpt] from Nis and Vortex > Gyro Double Legover from Kim though.

Life is pretty good at the moment. Stuff with the girlfriend is going well. We even went on a little cruise to Oslo the capital of Norway.
I need to give her a proper introduction to footbag soon.

Thanks TJ!

Hello Modifighters!

Yesterday was monday which means session time. But me and Kim had to attend the annual meeting for the organisation, that have given us the location for our monday training. It was a pretty great meeting for Footbag Denmark. We will keep our time on monday and get another one on friday. This means 3 indoor trainings per week. Interestingly enough the organisation will turn 25 this year and Footbag Denmark has been a part of it since the beginning! It goes all the way back to Torben Wigger. I don’t think many footbag clubs can say they have had the same weekly indoor spot for 25 years straight!

In other footbag related news I just got a new iMac. I am sitting here at the office and it is standing down in the reception. I can’t get home and play with it. This is good because doing Worlds organizing without a computer is pretty hard. The new firepower will probably also make future videos from my hand even more awesome.

Anybody wanna write something for BSOS.IT?

Yesterday we had a board meeting and then a small sessions afterwards. Kim was sick and Mathias(who I guess is the deputy these days) was at some other meeting. So it was only Kim, Rasmus and me. Andreas showed up when the meeting was almost over to kick. We mainly talked Worlds but we also convened the annual General Meeting which will be just after easter. I will make a long update on Worlds just after that. The lady at our spot supplied some cake and fruit for the meeting which was really nice of her. Everybody loves Footbag Denmark.

Rasmus left and we got ready to play. It was past 9 and I had worked for 8 hours + the meeting so I wasn’t exactly jumping up and down to play but it was pretty fun and all things taken into consideration I did ok. I had around 10-12 contacts of pixie/stepping shuffle and I hit Pixie DLO in a couple of attempts. Andreas almost hit Tombstone. That’s crazy.

I have been going to Kulturhuset for sessions and tournaments for more than 10 years and every year we have complained about the showers, so you can imagine my excitement when I went to the dressing room and saw 4 new showers. Boom!

Can’t wait for it to get warmer. I wanna play outside soon.

Footbag!

Ooh Wee! Weather is finally warm enough to play footbag outside!

Not that I have done it yet, but it's gonna be great when it happens..

Yesterday we had the Annual General Meeting. In attendance where: Jasper, Mathias, Verena, Paul, Nis, Kim, Andreas, Troels, Jan, Frede og Asmus

Most interesting news: Mathias Blau is now a member of the board.

After that some people played footbag and some people drank beer and hung out. I fell into the latter category.

This should have more views! And you should all come to Worlds!
