Allan's Footblog
Re: Allan's Footblog
Liked the video!
It is annoying me how many clicks I have to go through to login and be back on the main page. Can you fix that? Please.
Looking forward to see what you and Steve are cooking on.

Better? I put the form right in the header and removed the wait page so now it just redirects directly to where you're going instead of making you wait for 3 seconds (or until you click the link).Asmus wrote: It is annoying me how many clicks I have to go through to login and be back on the main page. UPDATE: there are still quite a few places where the "you did this, wait a long time until you can do anything else" thing still happens; in those cases, I've reduced the amount of time you have to wait from 3 to 1 second ...

I just noticed the change and immediately went to your blog
So much better! I might actually log in and post every now and then.

Re: Allan's Footblog
I gave a "props" for that change, great work.
Better YouTube Embed bbcode
I hope this works:
[youtube]https://youtube.com/watch?v=WJDnJ0vXUgw[/youtube]
This means you should be able to paste almost any youtube link in ...
WICKED COOL.
I should have props taken away for not fixing this sooner.

Re: Allan's Footblog
Sweet! Thanks for the youtube fix.
I think your modified header is floating over certain elements on the forum, looks funky. I definitely like the functionality of the header, but if it was fixed at the top of the page, or minimized when the mouse wasn't in it's vicinity, it would be even better. But yeah, thanks for all you do - Modified is awesome.

It seems like the Search function is also broken, as it greys the entire screen out and doesn't allow me to type anything. Clicking anywhere closes out the search bar.

Also, sorry for posting this in your personal blog, maybe an error reporting thread in Meta might make more sense.

Re: Allan's Footblog
I recently switched it so that the navigation is full-width and fixed at the top. Your screenshot seems to indicate that you're seeing the right version, so I'm a bit confused. I've just refreshed all the template files. Can you please hit refresh in your browser a couple of times and see if that makes this particular issue go away? I can make my screen look like that, but only after I scroll down a bit ... a new page load looks balanced to me on all browsers on my mac; I'll test on Windows tomorrow at work.isirc10 wrote: I think your modified header is floating over certain elements on the forum, looks funky. Is anyone else seeing this?
Indeed. I know about this one and a fix is in the works. It also effects the badges popup and the props popup. It's a weird issue; I've likely accidentally deleted a div somewhere along the lines, and hunting that down is no fun at all.isirc10 wrote: It seems like the Search function is also broken, as it greys the entire screen out and doesn't allow me to type anything. No, it's cool. But a dedicated thread is a good idea.isirc10 wrote: Also, sorry for posting this in your personal blog, maybe an error reporting thread in Meta might make more sense.
Re: Allan's Footblog
All is well now - the header is behaving as it should. A few refreshes and the header no-longer overlaps any text or other elements. Thanks! I will direct the rest of my "complaints" to the new thread.

Re: Allan's Footblog
I finally got in the first session of 2015 with Spinning Dragon I didn't actually have high hopes for the session since we'd not played in almost a couple of weeks, and as you'll read below, there was a factor at play that made things ... difficult.
We didn't play for very long. Matt was dumb and ate a couple of cheese burgers right before we played.
I've been attempting to hit nemesis, well, since 1996. I came as close as I've ever come during the last session of 2014, and I'd been analyzing the footage. I've not found much new in my frame-by-framing, except for my same old issue of kicking out my setting leg immediately after the set, which puts me off balance and make the last two dexes late and The (well, quite toey in my latest attempt)
Given that, after I warmed up a bit, I was trying to school my high-step without kicking out. No love. I switched to schooling my flipside high-step a bit, which I came close to, but I just can't even get the first dexes on that yet.
After a frustrating time schooling my flip ripped warrior and failing miserably, I asked Matt for some suggestions for combos to hit. He said "whirr > stepping drifter." I hit whirr > drifter; just couldn't step out of it. But my whirr felt strong enough, and when he countered with "whirr > ps whirl" it only took me a few tries on that. Once I hit that, I wanted to do it on my flip, but I haven't hit whirr on my flip for, like, 7-8 years. My first attempts were actually pretty strong, as I had schooled it a bit a couple of months ago (but to no avail then). It wasn't long before I managed to hit it (whirr, but not with ps whirl) BSOS! It felt pretty fucking awesome, but I am quite self-doubting and wasn't too sure if I cleaned it; fortunately, I was videoing, and, as it turns out, while they weren't the deepest of dexes, it was clean! So stoked.
The first regular whirr after it was a bad angle and looks a bit funny, but I hit it twice in that run, and the second time was a good angle and most certainly clean
I referred to a "factor" above that made me not feel confident going into the session. I've been a chronic cannabis smoker for the last 24 years. I started when I was 15 and, save for a 9 month period about a decade ago, I've smoked multiple times a day, most every day since then. It's cost me a lot in terms of mental stability and general well-being (especially financially). As of December 30th 2014, I quit. That makes it 9 days today with nothing. I went "cold turkey." It's been tough. I've been on edge since day 2, and the dreams ... I've gone through a few dry spells where I've not smoked for 2-3 days, and every time I do, I get the most intense dreams. This time has been no different; in fact, they've been the most intense dreams I've ever experienced. Fortunately they've not been bad dreams, really, but they're just so ... real ... I can't help but be disturbed by them.
I'm really trying not to make a big deal out of it, but it is kind of a big deal for me. Maybe at some point I'll write about the reasons why it was finally time to stop, but for now, I'll just say that it was simply time and that's that.
Footbag & Pot & Me have always had an extremely tight relationship, so let me just say that hitting a new combo today while being "sober" meant even more to me that it might have otherwise. I really can't express how it made me feel other than to say that I'm optimistic for the future and very, very happy that I've got such a cool sport to play, and such a supportive community behind it.
Thank you for reading me, and thanks for being awesome, footbag community!!

Re: Allan's Footblog
Props man! Both the footbag and lifestyle changes. I enjoy your videos, even the short ones.
Re: Allan's Footblog
1. Props on whirr bsos. That trick befuddles me.
2. Props on the lifestyle change. It's always good to challenge yourself, and if that challenge also saves you money and might benefit your health too, even better!
3. I'm no expert on nemesis or anything, but feel free to send me any footage for analysis. When I was working on harder furious sets, it helped me a lot to get feedback from a variety of players. A lot of times, 3 out of 4 players told me stuff I was already seeing, but sometimes somebody would point out something that I hadn't noticed, and making an adjustment on that one small thing can sometimes be the difference between barely missing a trick and hitting it clean.

Thanks for the props and the support, guys
It means a lot. Day 12 now and I'm holding strong. I need to stop counting the days soon...
This post is a thank you, but it's also a test. I've enabled SSL secure connections on the forum, so now all communications between you & the server can be encrypted. Give it a whirl. I'll be making a post about this in meta soon, but I just wanted to test posting first to make sure that things are all working end-to-end. There is probably a bit more configuration that needs to happen. When things are ready, I'm going to flip the switch to make it secure by default. Please hold any questions for when I create the formal post in meta.

Got your PM Ninjo your username has been changed.
Before I forget: Matt & I played last week. My battery died after about 15 minutes and didn't capture anything cool. At the end of the session I did 98 guiltless contacts; lots of BOP, but a fair amount of variety too. I was pretty stoked.
I'm just going to leave this here...

Footbag Parkour??
Hey peeps.
I've got a new video coming out soon. It's more "street" freestyle, or "obstacle" freestyle as I've taken to calling it in the last few years. I've never been really happy with calling it either of those things. Way back in '99, Jubal coined it freestyle "trials" after the mountain biking sport which is a similar concept but on bikes. I don't think enough people have any clue as to what "trials" is in that context, so it leaves a lot to be desired. "Street" is pretty ambiguous, and while "obstacle" is the best descriptor, it's a little dry. The thought occurred to me while I was editing the video that "parkour" fits pretty well too, and that sport is HUGE right now. If I were to publish the video with "Footbag Parkour" as the title, I'm thinking I'd get a lot more views. At the same time, I'm also betting that I'd get a lot more hate from the haters.
What do you folks think? Is it stupid to call it that?
As for the video itself, I would have published it already, but the song that I used for it got flagged by Vimeo for copyright, which means that I need a new song which hopefully won't require too much re-editing. It's not as though I've spent a ton of time on editing, but I think it came out relatively well considering my skills, and I finally found a friend (James Holkko some of you might remember from 15 years ago or so; he was a net player) with a decent camera and enough patience to sit through a session; it was shot with a couple of different lenses at 1080p 60fps. I'd really, really love to do the next one at a higher frame rate. I might be upgrading to the iPhone 5S or even the 6 at some point soon, so it's possible I'll use that (5S does 120fps while the 6 does a sweeeet 240fps).
Don't be too optimistic about the level of shred in this one; it's basically rehashing combos you've seen before. The main difference is the nice quality and the fact that I'm using a big red bag in a rather beautiful setting, so it's leaps and bounds better than what's out there already quality-wise, just not really shred-wise
This will be Part 1 as a sort of "where we've been" warm-up video that's more accessible to non-shredders, with Part 2 as more of a "where we're going" video with hopefully more advanced combos.
Anyhow, any thoughts on the "footbag parkour" name thing would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading
PS next post is top post

OH! Took Ken's top post! OHHHHHHH!!!!!! Ken is aching on this one, I just know it! AHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Edit: I've been dooped. Ken will probably snag top post now.
Fuck yeah, Allan. I love the name "Footbag Parkour". The haters thing brings up several thoughts.. first: As Obama is famous for saying: "Fuck the haters." And second... It's like... really really hard to hate what you do with trials. Like anyone who sees it can hate all they want, but like.. your shit is just insane. Don't worry about the haters. I think that could be great for our sport. I think you should also try to throw a link on the end of your video to either A: The facebook group, B: A shred video of your's, or C: Modified... or all of the above. Or something like that. Just so anyone interested can have a lead to follow and look more into it. A bit of an explanation (before the video starts) of what you're going to be doing might be good too.
All in all, I'm super stoked on this. I'll definitely help you spread it far and wide.
