The session tonight with Tom, Kamil, and Damien was really fun. It was around 40°F outside tonight, and with 4 of us playing in Kamil's insulated garage our body heat was enough to make it the perfect shred temperature for me, a little bit cool but warm enough for your muscles to loosen up. We all hit some new stuff. Kamil's knee really looked like it was bothering him which really sucks, i know how frusterating injuries are
, but he still managed to hit a new trick. I want to say what everyone hit but I guess I should let them post it in there own blogs.
Newish stuff for me:
-Atomic Drifter
-Pixie Same Osis>Mobius midstring
-Slapping Butterfly bsos
-Ducking Paradox DLO
The last one was the best. At the beginning of the session I suggested that Tom and I both try and hit it, but neither of us could. Then later near the end of the session my legs were feeling like noodles and I kinda wanted to quit but i tried it again and hit it so easily and I asked Tom if he saw it and he said something like "Yeah, I was looking for the bag on the floor and I couldn't find it" haha. Pixie Osis>Mobius was really satisfying too because Mobius is just not my move, so to hit it out of a zoom set was surprising. I also was able to stepping duck pretty easily tonight, but I couldn't ever hit anything out of it
. I kept trying Spike Hammer and consistantly hit Stepping Ducking Miraging floor stall instead. I even hit flipside stepping ducking floorstall which I was pretty happy about actually
. I also hit like 14 or so smears in a row which wasn't a record but was really fun because i ended up backing up into this pile of stuff in Kamil's garage and managed to hit like 5 more smears way out of control trying not to run into his shelving. Oh, right before we stopped I was just messing around and hit reaper SO easily.
Tom is so good now. All the practice sessions he's been doing really shows in his shred. All his moves look so solid and controlled which is the opposite of how I feel when I shred lately. Two of the new tricks he hit tonight looked so easy. When I saw his first attempt on each I knew he would hit it if he just tried a couple more times, and then he proved me right
. We both tried to hit multiple whirling swirls in a row and from watching him I think i figured out why i couldn't link more than one. His whirling swirl is done in one fluid motion like a xbody eggbeater kind of: Set>Whirlingswirl, whereas mine is more like starting out a whirl and then slamming down the swirl: Set>Whirl......Ingswirl and I never come out of it with enough control to do anything other than spinning moves
So now I'm going to practice doing them Tom-style. The after the shred Tom and I went to TBK and got our grub on.

The really sad thing is that you shred with them more times a month than I shred with the rest of my club by far. I applaud the fact that you get out there and kick despite being somewhat far away from anyone (although in mid-day traffic Tom and Kamil are about 45 minutes away from me). I'm trying to get a session in at least once a week from now on, and eventually I'll work my way up to your 8 a month

I'd say we used to average 2 sessions a week for a time and most of us had to travel at least 1/2 an hour or so to the shred spot, sometimes even an hour if it was downtown.
I'm hoping to get some practice sessions with the roomy when it gets warmer.

Huh!
I didnt know Greg liked mealworms...
I always felt, back in the states, anyway, that there were big groupings of shredders throught the states, and then there was Greg and I. Maybe I was wrong.
In Japan, I think I could play with someone everyday, but I dont think it is worth the time spent getting there. I mean, I love shredding with people, but I want to play for more than and hour or two. Yesterday a couple kids were shreddin` where we usually do, but I get home at 6:30, so for me to get out there and get back takes at least an hour and a half, and if I were to go, I would shred for no less than 3 hours. The bad thing is that I have to get up at 6:30 or so in the morning for work, which makes it hard to go. Instead, I just go to the station, 15minutes from my place, and shred for 3 hours

It's really funny sometimes when you get first-hand exposure to the factual basis behind certain stereotypes. I work in custom home theater and whole-house audio installation which means that I do a lot of low-voltage wiring, and hence end up working in construction sites pretty frequently. So today I was doing just that in a huge condo in downtown Chicago, and there was this team of electricians and carpenters working there that perfectly exemplified the image of the crude meathead constuction worker. It was hilarious, especially since the main one was about 6'3" and had that saaaaasage-eatin, Old Style chuggin, southside Chicago accent and a truely vicious poodle mullet (mid-back length)
So anyway, the whole time I was pulling wire there I was listening to them gab about banging underaged chicks or telling wives to get in kitchens, and at one point the poodle says something like "So dis cute liddle bland hatie (blond hottie for those of you not from the southside of chicago) iz all over me, and she'z zmokin haaat, and ah'm like you better show me yer meat-flaps before we go any ferder caz der'z gotta be somthin wrang with her." I might have mangled it a little, but that was the general idea. MEAT-FLAPS?!?!?!? Who says shit like that seriously? It's ridiculous. I think if I ever used that term I would instantly turn gay so I'd never have to deal with anything called a flap. Calling anything a flap automatically puts it at the ass-end of the sexy spectrum. And hearing stuff like that is pretty common on job sites. Anyway, it just all goes to show you that despite being horrible generalizations, stereotypes definitely grow out of real occurances.

Fun/frusterating session on saturday with Kamil, Zeke, and Tom. Actually it was 75% fun and only 25% frusterating. My body was reminding me that I no longer have my freestyle physique
. My left thigh muscle was really sore still from kicking last monday, so i couldn't really use it to dex. That was the frusterating part. But it was that good type of pain that you can tell is from strengthening your muscles, so it wasn't so bad. Using only one leg to do most of the dexing really cut down my already mediocre string length, but I had lots of fun just trying for small combos and single tricks.
Pogo is such a fun set. I think I subconsciously neglect this set because it used to shunned alongside the dada and refraction, but i think it looks stylie and it's really fun to do. I did a pogo style fog (so easy feeling) and a pogo style blur or two. I think Pogo PS Whirl (double symp whirlygig or Symp and a half whirlygig depending on how you look at it
) would look awesome and seems like it would be fairly attainably, I will try that this Saturday. I also hit......
Spinning Far Twirl
Not symposium, which is both easier and harder than its symposium counterpart somehow
. It felt really cool though. My twirls felt really on that day, I did toe set same and op side twirls sooooo easily. Tom hit toe same side twirl too. I tried some gyro twirls too but it felt to blind for me and i couldn't quite hit it, maybe next session. Oh, i hit another or two mobii too. I'm so glad that I'm finally ably to hit that move, I still need a lot of work to get it solid though.
Kamil's new G units seemed to be working out pretty well even if they look ugly as hell all chopped up. His stepping seemed way consistant and his pixies looked really good. He actually looked pretty close to blurry whirl which made me say
, he just needs to work that flip clipper and i think he'd hit it no prob. His Vertigo attempt looked a little shaky though
. It was also really good to shred with Zeke again, it's been a long time. I can't wait until it starts getting warm out so we can skool together outside, that will be that shazzer.
On sunday I went to this excellent Chinese/Japanese resteraunt w/Marianne and had some really good sushi. She got a dragon/spider combination maki which I liked but eating the soft shell crab's shell is always a little unsettling for me so I didn't have to much of it. I ordered a brand new roll they started serving the day before called the crunchy lobster roll which was delicious
and also the 7 piece sushi combo which was also very good. I asked my waiter if they had Toro which is one of my favorite pieces and he said no, and then after I was done eating and very full i was talking with the bartender and asked about it and he said that they did have it today and that is was very fresh and good
. Oh well. So anyway, after we ate we hung out at the bar for a while and talked with the bartender and had some drinks. A bit too many drinks
. My stomache held out until we got home, but when I got through the door I promptly threw up all that good food I just ate
. I didn't feel very drunk, but aparantly I was
