That's it David and Ken, here it begins! Some day moving on to Genuine should be as normal as moving on to Guiltless from Tiltless.
I already wrote in Ken's blog how I do my Ripsteins. My main idea is to do them with low set. Here's a short video of high and low set Ripsteins: http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/13776 I compare them with DATW, also done with two different styles, to make my point clear. I think small Ripsteins look better than huge ones, and they're harder to 'the'.

-Genuine.
When you start to play Tiltless you just link tricks and leave toe stalls out. At that point the difficulty rate is pretty narrow. When you go Guitless you eliminate twos and at that point you have some fours maybe fives in your repertoire. Then you play Guiltless and start adding bigger tricks to your game. That's what everybody does.
What if.
When you play Guiltless INSTEAD of learning bigger tricks, you start eliminating BOPs and move on to Genuine.
When you play Genuine it will be easier to start adding bigger tricks to your runs, because you have such strong basic game.
Any thoughts?
-Training Programs.
The next phase of the research has started of pretty well. Of course there could be more participants, but I'm satisfied. I have a good feeling that this time everyone will go through the program and I'll get results from everybody. I eliminated most of the factors that made people quit last time, but this could make the outcome harder to analyse. We'll see.
-Shred.
I hadn't tried a Fearless record for two years, untill last Saturday I wanted to try how many Fearless I could hit without any Spinning components. I did 10, which was a new Fearless record. Funny. Now I think I could hit 15 Fearless for sure. I need to try it when I'm playing outdoors again. There's not enough room in the shed. But there's no hurry.
Some pretty good shite went on for the camera yesterday. Including two fearless drills, first 3dex>4dex and first prefix Beastly link:

It's really kind of surprising that more people don't post vids in their blogs. The technology is out there, and sites like youtube make it so easy. Hell, footbag.org gives you unlimited hosting space for FREE. I remember when it was a big deal for me to get emails off the old footbag listserve.
I really enjoyed the video. I'd love to see 10 fearless from you, I bet you could do it pretty easily. Fusion-nem was hot, though I think the second nem was thin. Still, the first one was one of the best combos I can recall seeing. So styly. Oh, and thank you for the ripstein video. I will try them once I get over this bad cold.
I've been playing on almost everyday for the past two weeks. Filmed the 5unique combo for the online comps today. I wonder if I got the idea right, I just tried to use as many components as possible.
It saddens me that Antti hasn't been playing at all for a long time now. He could use some solo sessions.
I want to write more thoughts about Genuine, but now I'm too tired...
Here's ten Fearless with my easiest fives from today:

I'm planning on having a week-or-so long break from footbag now.

I've been reading the When will the first 6dex be hit thread lately and LAUGHING at it. The thread really belongs in kicking circle rather than shred symposium. But inspired by that thread I gave 5dex some tries the other day. Can't say I got close, but it's not impossible. Anyway, I propably won't be trying it in the near future anymore. I had a week long break before that, because I had to let my new tattoo recover but now I'm back in busting.
Lately watching videos of barely guiltless players has made me think about playing Genuine in a new view. Weak guiltless is mostly BOPs, which is more like a set back than improvement for some players. Many 2add tricks show more control than BOPs and forcing guiltless ends up being Osis>Infinity all the time. Starting to build your game on that is a mistake that too many players do. You should play tiltless when you could play guiltless, slowly leaving out the 2's and skooling genuines and 4's. Then play guiltless when you could play genuine. Then slowly leave out the BOPs and become genuine. If you push your game to guiltless with BOPs and you try to become genuine, that's not going to work. Makes sense, doesn't it?
I really don't think talking about 6dex tricks is taking this sport forwards.

When i started to get a bit better, and was able to hit something
resembling a run, i also became more and more interested in the
technical and theorethical aspects of the sport. With an increase
of actual shred experience came an increse in understanding,
and to me all these "x dex", "are paradon and barfly the same?"
kind of debates, were philosphical disputes full of passion and vigor
(esp. when you check todays`topics...
) .
It must have been around that time, when i heard about the concept
of playing "GENUINE", and became instantly intrigued by it.
On one hand, it sounded challenging and even a bit cruel, but on the
other hand, it was the only goal worth going for :
genuine = authentic hardcore = straight in da faccia !
I took this idea as fuel and justification for two things :
being bored with bops and generic shred and experimenting with a wide range of trix.
Up to that point, i already favoured toe to toe heavily, and my clippers
were deeply neglected, which lead to all kindsa form/consistency problems.
But most annoyingly, it shut me off from all the interesting clipper trix,
and my runs used to be short as hell. I was mad for a while, that i didnt skool bops
and clppershuffle like my team mates did, and whined about the slow rate of my progress
Now i see that all my asymmetric process in a different light – i have reworked
clippers and basic clipper downtime since the change from g's to lavers, i have
worked on bops to fix form and stabillity issues, so that i'm finally able to hit longer
runs with a fair bit of variety. Still, my guiltless game is far from being structured around
bops, so i feel that i came to the right conclusions using the wrong formula .
It seems that i use bops adequatly : as a device for relaxation midstring, as some sort of glue
to connect all the various trix that i've picked up during my 3,5 years of freestyle.

I like that you are so into the genuine idea Anssi.
Sorry i quit the training programme but it got me so sore , or i got sick.Actually i dont remember why i quit, but 1 session helped me alot.
Im emerging guiltless not the bop way too.So im kinda doing it your way, the way you think people should do.
But i dont think me as a genueine player will happen any time sooner than 1 year.

Thanks for the comments both of you!
But oh my - I never ment that BOPs should be avoided! They're the most important concept to skool. You can't learn to run if you don't learn to walk first... eh, lousy cliché.
I'm in a hurry right now (going to a sauna evening with some friends), but I'll write more about this tomorrow.
On todays session I was supposed to film a couple of single tricks, but ended up filming four drills. Footbag.org is down temporarily, so I uploaded the video on YouTube for once:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NmdfCn2TCk
How do I always drop Blenders in these solo session videos?

Sorry this reply took so long. And thanks for the comments.
What other ways there are to emerge Genuine? How can you be Genuine before being strongly Guiltless?
If you're good at footbag you play Guiltless, right?
How to become Guiltless the easiest way? -> Learn Butterfly and Osis.
What is the most typical error players make with BOPs (Butterfly and Osis) -> don't master them before starting to bail to them.
That's it - The pressure on playing Guiltless is too big to take the time on skooling the two basic tricks, so that players instantly start bailing on them before mastering them!! You see that ALL the time, I bet there's a video right now amongst the 15 most recent videos in Videos section where a player is playing Guiltless, bailing to Osis > Infinity/FarLegover, even though he's never done ten Osii in a row. You can't dream about playing Genuine.
In conclusion: Starting Guiltless is usually so hard because of two reasons: 1) Player hasn't skooled Butterfly and Osis enough but he's relying on them. 2) He always uses BOPs for the same links.
If you go straight to Genuine from Tiltless, ignoring the BOPs, how will your tricks selection end up? Dexless tricks? Toe tricks? No clipper shuffle, no Blenders nor Torques, no Double Downs... the list goes on.
I say no-one should even consider playing Guiltless before he has hit Infinity x100 and Osis x60.
Also, skooling different links for BOPs is vital, so that the mid-string links aren't always the same Osis>Infinity. For example Osis > NearLegover/Whirl are good links to skool. And I still do loads of Butterfly > Osis > Pdx Mirage > rpt on every session.
And then from Guiltless to Genuine there are many possibilities, but the easiest way is propably just to eliminate BOPs slowly out of your game. More about the possibilities in next blog entry! (I need to gather my thoughts)
Toe players are a different thing. When you play Toe Guiltless, you actually play Genuine. Mostly toe players avoid Osis, which is actually a good thing if you want to play Genuine. If you're a strong toe player, it shouldn't be so hard to leave out Butterfly when you occasionally play with Clippers. But I will LAUGH at them who play Genuine when they can't do Osis, it's just cheating
I think at the moment Yves Kreil is the only one who could play Genuine without too much trouble, if he wanted.
So yeah. I think I made it clear now how one should approach Guiltless and Genuine in my opinion. I hope the post didn't en up being too long, I always try to avoid that.

A bloody good point. Where is freestyle going and how rapidly? Jackpot has been filmed, new Beastly world record was just achieved and so many players have done ten Fearless. Still, no-one can't beat Osis for good.although there's been all this talk about freestyle footbag having developed light years in the past few years, the pros still bop about as much as in 2000
Actually it is NONE. Sad, but true. The number of pure genuine players is, what, somewhere around half a dozen?

Well thats probably what i meant.I dont bother playing guiltless by bailing to bops, im drilling out my tricks(including BOPs).
So that makes me a tiltless player, but sometimes i go genuine for a few contacts midstring, and i use bops in my strings too.
Btw i've hit x100+ both infinity and osis.
Interested to read more of your thoughts.
Btw id try to join your programme again, somewhere mid aprill.Would be cool if i did a new video and showed ya.

Today's the first day in two weeks without any physical exercise. I've been jogging much lately, because tomorrow I'm giong to have a fitness test arranged by the Finnish Defence Forces. I'm joining the Province Forces (maakuntajoukot), which is formed from volunteer reservists in case of anykind of crisis that authorities can't handle by themselves. The Province Forces are pretty much like the National Guard in USA. For example here in Finland, in the city of Nokia (yes, the cellphone brand is named after a city), there was an accident with the local water system and no pipe water could be used for anything for a couple of months. During that time local volunteers from the Province Forces gave water rations for the people.
I'm pretty confident about the test, I'm not sure what the scale is for reservists, but as a conscript I had grade of "good" physical condition. I don't think I'll reach "excellent" yet, though. We'll see. The test and interview is tomorrow morning.
Genuine. Different ways to become Genuine player? I'm not saying which is the best way or the right way, since no-one's really tested them. 1) Slowly cutting out BOPs. 2) Easy Genuine bails. 3) Toe game.
1) Propably the most natural way of becoming Genuine for majority of players. Just like going to Tiltless to Guiltless, you slowly use less and less those Far Legovers and Near Mirages. Then just one day you decide not to use them anymore, and it works. Same way you learn to use less Osis and Butterfly and one day you take the final step. For most players Osis is propably easiest to replace with Dyno/Blender/Crossbody Rake/Spinning and Butterfly with Double Down/Paradox Whirl/Ducking. The usual Osis > Infinity becomes Dyno > Pdx Whirl.
2) A sneaky way for playing Genuine are the dexless tricks and other easy Genuine used as bails. You sort of use Ducking and Spinning Clippers/Butters between most of the Prefix tricks, and link all Osis-tricks to Ducking. Ducking Clipper>Spinning is in heavy use. Whirl, Pdx Illusion and Symp Mirage are easy saves to gain control. Not that much Toe-game or Prefix links. This does seem like an easy way for dexless game masters, but it sounds kinda boring.
3) All Toe-Guiltless is Genuine, how easy is that? Those few Clipper contacts mid-string are propably Dexless Genuine, and for example Near DLO is an easy way to get back to Toes.
Any comments or other ideas and plans for achieving Genuine are very much appreciated!
Statement of the day: Both nonaerobic and aerobic cross-training is good for footbag.

Once we get to the Genuine standard, isn't it going to be the same thing then as it is now, with people saying "The pros still do ducking clipper as much as they did in 2008!"?
If we do get to everyone playing genuine, will there eventually be another revolution where the new standard is tripless?

I'm not 100% sure what's your point here, but...Once we get to the Genuine standard, isn't it going to be the same thing then as it is now, with people saying "The pros still do ducking clipper as much as they did in 2008!"?
-There will be always complaining about common bails.
-On every standart, certain moves are considered cheaper than others. That can't be helped.
-The use of Ducking Clipper won't propably raise remarkably with Genuine standart.
-Ducking Clippers won't propably go anywhere, unless dexless tricks are considered as bails in the future. Which I don't think will happen.
If we do get to everyone playing genuine, will there eventually be another revolution where the new standard is tripless?
Really? I don't think footbag can have natural developement, it has to be pushed.Yes. It's natural development.
And I'm bloody confident saying that Tripless will never be a circle standart. It would unnecessarily cut out way too many tricks. That would mean no toe game, no Drifters, Whirls, Swirls, DLOs... The final pro standart will be Genuine. Developement from that on will only include tiny adjusments, outcluding new tricks from Genuine. Dexless tricks are the first that come to my mind, but I don't personally think it will come to that.
This actually raised one good point: In todays circles Guiltless players rise their run level to Tripless from time to time for a run or two (and Fearless is even more popular!). Why not Genuine that much? That's a bloody good question and I don't think I can't really answer it myself. But some options are
-Genuine is not respected enough. -> compare to Tripless and Fearless
-Genuine is too hard to stay focused on. -> Clipper Tripless is easy to improvise, Fearless is easy to plan
-Genuine might go unnoticed. -> common Tripless and Fearless are definetly not
So, yeah. Thanks for your comments, they brought up a new valuable point.
I've been gathering some Genuine facts and thoughts on a txt-file, and I'm planning to let it all out in a new thread on General Footbag after I clear it up. And I could always use some more material.
I had the fitness test on Saturday. I ran 3080 meters in Cooper's, which was one of the company's best results, and got "excellent" ratings in both sit-ups and push-ups. I thought there would have been more muscle condition tests, but it's ok like this. The interview was short and although they're looking more crew rather than team leaders, I think I'll be accepted. I should hear the decision soon.
It looks like spring has finally arrived for good. Today was warm. I want to shred outside soon.
Statement of the day: Nowadays Tripless is more common that Genuine
You're probably right that there isn't any natural development in footbag. I think it's a shame.
I just consider it natural that as the hardest tricks, the hardest links and the hardest runs keep getting harder, the easier tricks, i.e. bails, will be left aside. Yeah, it doesn't mean tripless (as "runs with only 4- or higher add tricks") would necessarily be the next standard since there are 3-add tricks which are harder than some 4-add tricks.
I see this might be one-eyed development though: although the game would get technically more challenging, I admit it doesn't observe the artistic side of freestyle. Perfect ducking/spinning clippers look nice.

I'm sure all of you have read the "Developement of Shred" thread on General Footbag. Radical stuff. I'm going to start a thread for Genuine soon. I'm curious to find out where all this leads.
Spring is f-r-e-s-h. Summer is coming, which means Euros and Worlds are coming. At the moment it looks like I'll be attending both. I had my first outdoor session today. Convinced my little brother to do some filming. About half an hour in Quantums resulted with some pretty footage to make a short video. Enjoy.

If the bag would be more visible at some parts, this would make a good video to show non-footbaggers. Oh yeah, notice how there's no BOPs in the video, heheh. The video is also on Break.com to give footbag some publicity
I've been thinking about making a couple more of those Anz' Trikz videos, just for YouTube. Stuff like "how to stall properly" etc. for newbies. Not that time consuming, so I'll propably do them quite soon.
Writing about Anz' Trikz reminds me of this project I thought about organising... How cool would it be if there would be a DVD with all the pro players giving trick tips on their strongest concepts? And the profits from the DVD would be donated to IFPA? Pretty cool. I would like to organise that some day. I haven't thought about the details much, but I wouldn't need much from the players participitating. I could do big amount of the producing part, like all except editing and narrator part.
