Seems like you're back with a vengeance. :)

You should try and hit blurry whirl>stepping whirl>repeat>tomahawk>hatchet>repeat, seeing as you seem to own all of these ridiculous tripless and fearless whirl combos.

i dont think i could even touch that combo sam. maybe next year.

anyway, i had a really nice little sesh today! i started at 9, which is weird for me because normally im winding down about to sleep and doing homework and stuff. but i threw on my shorts, got some water, and headed to the basement. im sure glad i did! yesterday i spent forever doing those whirl drills, and man did they pay off.

Februay 8th, 2005
- new pdx. whirl record of 15 consequtive
- both drills from yesterday again, in much fewer tries
- spinning pdx. whirl>pdx. whirl>pdx. whirl>pdx. whirl (repeat)
- a super nice string with vortex, pdx. drifter>pdx. dlo, and good shuffle
- VORTEX>BLURRY DRIFTER (sealed one side, footed other)

I only kicked for like an hour, but i felt like i did a lot. a weird thing was that at the end of the session my left knee hurt from all the whirls. this is weird becuase normally its my right. hm. i was doing equal amounts too. go figure.

Im still scared to skool barflys and paradons after my injury, but i think i might tackle them tommorow.

peace out readers.

Good stuff there David. :) Yeah, it took like an hour and a half to download, but it was worth the wait. Looking forward to the video of you both.

My friend, you induce a state of awe and inspiration in me that I can't put to words. It has been a pleasure to watch you grow and surpass my skills. I look forward to the next time I get to shred with you. I will have to practice as hard as I can just to stay in your league.

Make more video!

Yeah Dave, YEAH DAVE, YEAH ! That video was great, you pulled some heavy combos that just kept on comin. I too, will have to get my shred on so that I can keep up with you in the next circle we shred in. Again, great stuff, looks like that ankle problem is no longer much of a problem.

i hope no one was like some crazy fan of my blog, cuz man have i been lax on posting. dont worry, i still play. ugh, i dont have anything monster to mention either.

janiwalker>spinning clipper>blurry whirl>ps whirl>string
ps whirl>ps whirl>ps whirl>ps whirl
flip vortex>flip gyro dlo
bedwetter>toe symp whirl

ugh, idk, that all blows. ive been working length and like, dlos, so i dont have like a million things to talk about. whatever. ill try to post more later.

this weekend im going to that tournament. i wish i had some sick tricks. i think ill just go for all my gut 5's. idk what else i could do. my routine is alright. my shred 30 is killer. if i hit it how i have been, some cleaving might go down. idk, its really iffy. should be sick kicking with bevier and irish. and that gangstar caleb abraham. he hits some cool tricks.

oh, and i hit my first spinning rake. eat that.

David Clavens’ write up of March 5th and 6th, 2005

Well, im sitting here on my computer with a sprained ankle and nothing to do, so I thought id summarize the past 2 days, which were probably some of the best ive had in a long time.

On Saturday, I woke up at 1 oclock and cleaned the house. Then at 5 Matt Cross and Aric Mcintosh rolled up in full Rochester style. They were going down to the TJ tyournament, and stopped at my hosue on the way. We kicked for about 2 hours and we had a sweet sesh. We were all pretty off, but matt busted some sick shit. Highlights were matt hitting a run with twirl bsos, reverse swirl bsos, and ps whirl. I managed some ok stuff including blurry whirl>blurry whirl>spinning whirl>ps whirl midstring. Aric was having a pretty off night, but still exhibited some of that ultra quick style he has. Who knew he would redeem himself MAJORLY the next day. After the session we all ate ziti that my dad made for us, and then they were out on the road. We would reunite the next day in philly. I then went back in the basement and soloed for an hour. I hit a dropless routine, some good shred 30’s, and worked my sick trick. Who knew this would all be for nothing.

Day 2: The tournament

Woke up bright and early at 10 a.m. felt alright, grabbed some breakfast, made sure my parents were getting ready. We departed at 11:30, got into philly at 11:30. On the way I listned to my routine song and just kinda relaxed, got mentally prepared for shred.

Then we arrived at the tennis courts and I walked in to see my best bro alex strassman and the man himself peter irish! That was sick. I went around talking to bevier, irish, alex, gf smoothie, tj, oh man it was great to see all those guys. I hadn’t seen gf in 7 months or something like that. Dayam. I immediately jumped in a circle with scott and started warming up. Everything was going well. Scott was busting, and I was warming up pretty nice. And then it happened.

I was midstring, and went for a quantum op clipper, and boom. Ankle hits ground at a bad ankle. Snap. I knew it was messed. I limped to the side and people got me ice and elevated it. Mad thanks to benham and schiender for helping me out when I was down. After that episode I was sidelined. I kinda just laid back and was like “wtf dave, you just blew this whole tournament”. I was super bummed. I started juggling with irish after I could stand, and that cheered me up a bit. I ate some candy, found out I was a judge, and I thought “hey, your surrounded by your best friends, so enjoy it”. so I did.

I watched bevier a lot. He is sick. Like if you haven’t played with him, don’t count him out of top 10 in the world, cuz he is THERE. Long strings, creativity, cool links, good style. Its all there.

Enough sucking up. Competition started. Highlights for me are arics phat shred 30, tjs super nice routine, and arics frantic ss butter. That could’ve frikken held up in open. Seriously, ugh. I also liked scotts routine, 250 adds 2 drops, not to bad for much fun scott Gordon. Props to smoothie for 4 bag juggling. Luckily no complaints about the judging, so pat on the back for me, Kenny, and pete.

After judging there was tons of circle shred. I started feeling alright. I got on my shorts and just kinda hacked. Felt my legs and all. And suddenly I was doing like clippers and stuff. Seriously, I was not faking when I messed it up. But 3 advil and 4 hours of rest really help man. So I started kicking in some circles, and I was actually shuffling. I warmed up really well and was kicking like, 80% normal. It was so much fun. Sick circle I was in was me, scott, cross, tj. Oh man, the insanity. Some highlights:
Scott:
-blurry whirl>blurry drifter>blurry whirl>stepping set first try for the repeat
-huge long flowy lines
-symp flurries to start runs
- fury into a run
- RIPPED WARRIOR>BLURRY TORQUE (Pennsylvania represent)
- tons of fairy eggs, nuclear insanity, and all that other good stuff
Matt
- blurry whirl>blurry whirl to seal up a huge run
-really tight clean spins
-so close to this muted pixie far twirl
-all around good variety, good stepping tricks, and unique tricks
Tj : Im not sure if many modified chaps know of this kid, but I think hes like, 20? Idk man, but he throws down some nice stuff. Always getting way better. Fairy paradon in sick trick, lots of good solid raky stuff, good good. Im more impressed with how he exponentially gets better every tourney then anything else.
David: ill get to this at the end

So after that little circle I ventured over to kick with aric, josh, brian mckenzie, and alex. Just so ya’ll no, east coast is really ripping. McKenzie is totally sick, I had never really seen him play. Flurries all over, cool zooms off blenders, and that unque stompy atomic stepping shuffle. I saw a super clean fusion as well. Aric was representing and josh was doing well with his 10 pounds of muscle (hes been working out). Alex was having an off day, but he was still keeping the bag up. I liked mckenzies mobius to start a string, flurries all over, and clean fusion. Also, hes tons of fun to play with. Heres some sweet pics of us jamming.

Eventually this circle turned into a 1 on 1 with me and brian. I started focusing and nailed out some good combos. Then I went for atomic torque and got it first try! Then I looked at pete and was like “yo, check this” and hit GAUNTLET first try EVER. This led into pete wanting to see nemesis. I tried it tons of times on my strong, and didn’t get it. Put it over on flip furious, and about 30 tries later, I hit it. Ive now hit nemesis both sides. W00t.

After a lot of celebrating for the moves I packed up, said my goodbyes and drove home. A sick event. Heres the part where I single people out:

GF Smoothie and TJ – thanks for the event. Mad props.
Kenny Shults – props on the donation for the venue + the double spinning gyro barrage. Judging with you was sick.
Matt Cross – thanks for being awesome and coming by my house to shred.
Aric – thanks for taking the trip with matt and ripping in my basement.
Alex – thanks for coming out, shredding it up, and showing me your sick bags you made. Thanks for filming too.
Bevier – Thanks for influencing my footbag game more then you know.
Peter Irish – sick mc, dope shredder, sucks you couldn’t play cuz of your knee. Thanks for rocking the sidelines with me when my ankle messed up.
Josh Benham – great to see you again, way to bulk up.
Brian McKenzie – now one of my fav. People to play with. Hope we can sesh in NY
Everyone who came to the jam – east coast footbag rocks. Thanks for making it what it is.

And since this is my blog, a summary of the things im proud of that I hit:

-janiwalker>blurry whirl>string
-haze>toe symp whirl and blurry whirl>blurriest in one string
-tombstone>tombstone footed
-spinning whirl>bedwetter
-string finished with blurry whirl>spin whirl>scorp>mobius
-sumo>fusion 2nd try
-blurry whirl>whirlwind>string
-Gauntlet first try (first 7)
-Flipside Nemisis

In conclusion, this jam rocked. Footbag rocks. Everyone who plays footbag rocks. The east coast is a killer scene to be a part of, and every jam on it makes me want to play more and more. Thanks.

Big ups Dave, you're makin me proud for not only shreddin hard like a madman, but you've got a great outlook on the sport. I can't wait to kick with you next time, ya might just have to make it out to WV sometime. Careful on that ankle and goodluck on the recovery.

Oh man, did you call Steve Goldberg when you hit it? Because if you did, and then I talked to you on the phone, the world makes a whole bunch more sense. The person on the phone recognized my name and I was so confused as to how they recognized me, because I don't know anyone who can hit flip nemisis... like in real life, not on modified, so I was so confused... If it was you, sorry for not understanding, I hate phones, major props though.
