Sorry Asmus, I'm not going to be able to come because I won't be able to earn enough money by then.
NYJ write-up
This was scribbled at different times on my trip home and typed line thought by thought over the last few days so I’m not going to fix the tense stuff. I’m also going to post it without re-reading it (as it is 3:45am) meaning that it might be a little messy, but I’m sure you can all handle it.
-The climate was tough on my skin. I had to put body lotion on several times every day and my hair was flat the whole time I was there. It was a bad hair day for two weeks straight. Entertaining so far, huh? If you like that, you just keep reading.
-Ride to Chicago with Reid
-9 days of waiting
-First time I saw Zeke was him playing 2-square against Alex D. and Zeke did some awesome tricky move to get Alex out—then laughed in his face all loud and obnoxiously. Aww.

-Mathieu and Nick boxing
(VIDEO COMING SOON!!!)
-The first day of trying to kick was so bad. SO bad. Oh man. I couldn’t get more than a few contacts each string. The 2nd day was better (it couldn’t have been worse) which was good. I felt a little more like myself. I hadn’t played in a little over two weeks and it felt like way, way longer than that. I still had fun.
-Wandering around with Tom and Andre. Pictures of some really attractive people. Sign-reading safety mom.
-Sign-reading safety mom’s kid getting kicked in a different part of the gym later in the day, and Tom and I happening to be there to witness her freak out. Beeeautiful.
During the event I kept hearing people ask Andre when he’d get lavers (I did it too). Poor guy must have been asked a lot, but that is to be expected. He said he’ll get them very soon. He was fun to hang out with.
-Zeke’s insane 6-square gauntlet. I wish we had checked the time to see how long it lasted. Zeke took on as many people as wanted to complete in a game of 6-square where he was always king. If you ace him (get him out without him contacting the bag) 3 times you win. 4-square pros had to ace him 9 times and people who had already won prizes were not allowed to compete. If Zeke got out but it wasn’t an ace, it was replayed. If another player got out, they went to the back of the line. After a long time of constant play, Zeke was sweating and people in the line started dropping out. Not only that, but some of the people who were left started sitting in chairs in line. I didn’t sit down, but me feet hurt from so much standing. I can’t imagine how tired Zeke must have been.
-There’s no use in talking about the shred because we all know it was great and you’ll all see the videos. I was surprised at how few people there were taping, especially compared to many of the more recent events I’ve been to where it felt like there was an inordinate number of people were filming.
-At the event site I looked over and saw not one, but two people filming with their cell phones. Or maybe they were taking pictures, but they kept the phones up long enough for me to get a camera and pretend to be taking a picture of Fletch.

To avoid coming off as a jerk, I won’t tell you who those people were.
…I’ll just post the picture.
I’m not seriously making fun of you. I don’t even have a camera (or camera phone), I just used Fletch’s. I just thought it was cute.
-Meeting Colin who looked COMPLETELY different than I thought he’d look based on his avatar. Wow. Fun guy.

Completely different than I thought he’d look. Wow.
-Since Jeremy got to the hotel first he checked in for our room which was under my name. Since the hotel overbooked DD rooms, they gave us a room with one King bed instead of two doubles. I went to the desk to see what they could do for us. They had given us a rollaway bed, but that still means we only had a bed for three people. I asked for extra bedding and what other compensation she could offer since someone had to sleep on the floor.
I schmoozed like the devil and got us HALF off on the room
plus breakfast for six people. Including tax, for both nights each person paid $15. Nick, Reid, Fletch and I went to breakfast and got the buffet which costs about $25 per person including tax and tip. It was rockin. There was a slight scare with the bill, but we realized that a Canadian buffet has a different meaning than an American buffet. Kind of like the difference between a subyurban block and a city block. In that order.
We gave the extra breakfast voucher-for-two to Zeke and Tom since they did so much for everyone and deserved a little pampering. And I like them.

It was great, too, that when I was checking out there was an $18 breakfast charge on the room bill and I knew I hadn’t had breakfast and that no one in our room would sign anything to our room so I asked them to remove the charge. A while Jeremy told me that he owed me $18 for breakfast. Turns out he got a free breakfast too.
-In our room was Reid, Nick, Mike Hansen, Jeremy, Fletch, Emily, and on the 2nd night Cale McCoy.
-Cale made his first 3-stitch footbag and it turned out really well besides the size. He is super nice, and I was worried that our room corrupted him by way of internet humor. On the last day of the event Cale realized he didn’t have his black flying clipper bag containing all of his footbags (which is maybe 7-9?). He was really concerned (as anyone would be and especially at their first event) but it felt good to be able to honestly reassure him that anyone who found it would make sure to find out who it belonged to and get it back to the owner. As it turned out, not long after I told him that Tom returned it to him.
-Speaking of Tom,

he was my tourney-buddy this event. I was really glad to spend time with a good friend. I used to make sure to get to know all the new (to me) people at an event, but slowly learned that it’s more important to me to spend quality time with friends I only see once or twice a year. It’s too bad I didn’t get to know a bunch of people at this event. Months before NYJ I thought to myself that if I had the chance after school, I would move to Chicago for a year. Just a year, because it’s not where I see myself living in 5 years from now, but I would give just about anything to be back there with people I miss so much. Chicago and Waukegan. I would be able to hang out and kick with CIC, have them train me at 4-square, and eat really greasy Chicago food.

NYJ this year really sealed that thought. I don’t know if I’ll actually be able to do it, but it’s a nice thing to dream about for now.
-I hope it was okay that when Zeke, Tom or Reile asked my opinion I gave it without sugar-coating. No, I think they know me enough to expect that when asking what I think about something. I like that even though I haven’t lived there in just over 3 years I still feel so comfortable around them. I felt like I got a fair amount of time with Zeke considering everything else he was doing all the time. It’s also weird for me as an ex-Chicago area kicker to show up and not know so many locals.

The big boom seemed to happen as
soon as I left. Maybe it was a hint?

-Which brings me to Nathan. I know “funniest personâ€
