Tim is attempting to learn pixies (And it sucks!)

Post by Tim » 29 Jul 2007 06:55

I admit it...I fell off. I used to kick on a regular basis but I stopped. Left school and left the shred scene just as I was getting better. But who knows what kind of shit I was doing back then. I have an old footblog here but I don't even want to look back at it. Makes me mad when I realize I wasted the past year basically just circle kicking. My form was probably terrible. I remember trying to pixie for WEEKS last year and didn't get anywhere. Really just shitty. :(

...But last week I met up with my friend Jon (who I got into footbag) after not kicking with him for months. Back when he was still having trouble doing pixies too. Haha, but that was then, and since he's been really practicing hard it didn't surprise me (yet it still awed me) when he busted out a phoenix! Thankfully, he was able to help me with my pixies. My set was crooked, I was going too fast, I was trying to dex with my calf, etc. It was just ugly! About FOUR tries later I do a very nice pixie. Four more tries and I hit my very first dimwalk.

Now that's what I'm talking about. I'm going to shred, and shred hard for the next month. No more long, unnecessary breaks from the sport. I might have slowed down for a bit but my footbag addiction is still kickin'. <--(Haha, I didn't even do that on purpose!)

...So much, in fact, that Jon and I have decided to go to Worlds! It will be my first time to Florida, first time on a PLANE, and of course first time to a footbag competition. We are flying out of Providence Saturday night and staying at his mom's place in Orlando for the week. I'm super excited, I'm even typing faster as I write this haha. It's gonna be sooo amazing. We are both only going as spectators because we would get schooled if we entered anything but that's cool. I'm pumped to see this level of footbag in person and see the players (Vasek, Jorden, and most recently Ashley D) whose videos have been on my "Who I'd like to meet" section of my myspace haha.

I'm gonna try to go back to bed for a couple of hours and then be up to watch the Yankees game (who have fallen to 9 games back!?!?!) and then do some well deserved kicking. I plan to update this a couple of times a week if you ever feel like reading.

Yo Jon! Good shit you're on here too. I'll keep our footbag lives up to date on here so feel free to post on this also. Yeah I'm down for Boston I'm MORE down to hit up NYC. Ken Somo was there last month, wish I could have seen him shred.

I'm about to go kick right now. Peace!

I'm glad you're back into footbag b/c you were the one that pushed me to drill in the first place so I could do more than hit a toe stall once in a while. Im gonna gun for hitting 15 guiltless by the end of the week, you should as well...ill race you :D

Haha alright let me know. I haven't been to Boston since like a 9th grade field trip so maybe I should give it another shot haha. Yeah man, even if we dont get into first we'll get the wild card and then BAM, it's going to be one hell of an exciting postseason.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not heading back to school till spring (I think) so this fall I'll just be working, playing footbag, and getting my life together. Definitely going to travel a bit and it might as well be to get into some siiick circles.

I just kicked for like 20 minutes because it started raining but I'm also mad exhausted from swimming across this lake to go jump off these cliffs earlier haha.

But anyway I hit another dimwalk and rolled off two more so the one I hit with Jon wasnt a fluke. Also decided to see if I could a ripwalk (I've only hit like 2 clean ones before) and hit one on my second try which is awesome. Couldn't do a damn thing with it though. One day...ONE day...BSOS.

Also I hit (from toe set)
Mirage > Illusion > Mirage > Illusion > MIrage > Illusion
Mirage > Illusion > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage
10 btb of those "symple" legovers or whatever they are called. They feel awesome on my legs haha.

Those are the most mirage to illusions I've done back to back so far. My illusion is looking quite good, more downtime than before. Jon and I are racing to see who can hit an eggbeater first. He will probably beat me but I won't be far behind. I don't know what happened to my damn DLOs that I used to be able to hit once in a while. I was watching Anssi's vids of them and they just look so simple. I lose track of the bag sometimes too under my legs ehhh. I should record myself and compare. Oh and my flip clip is still horrible. Damn!

I'll have a good session tomorrow. Peace!

Hahahahahaha

No way man. You do 15 guiltless and Ill do them tiltless

If you manage to do that or get close I would like to know what it looked like. Haha and would you do it unique??? Cuz that would be physically impossible for me at this time because I cant even hit 15 three add moves without having to string them together. It's pretty sad haha.

Just finished drilling some basics today: mirage, out-in atw, legovers. Felt kinda crappy after drinking keystone ice last night, made for a nice nauseous feeling for the 2 hours I played. Felt like ending on a high note and hit something way out of my league so I figured I'd try Dimwalk > Pdx Torque. Footed it first try and hit it about 5 minutes later :D . That'll give me some motivation to shred my ass off tomorrow.

Worlds is absolutely sick. I don't even know what to say. Jon is getting ready at the moment before we head down to the complex (haha we overslept). Right now they are doing the first round of Open Freestyle I believe, and there's like 12 pools. Of course Vasek is up dead last today. We should be down there shortly.

But today I'm sore as all hell. Got a whole lot of help with my clippers yesterday from Lee Vanswickle (sp?) and Chris from Jersey. Kicked in a circle with Ken S, and that was intense as was Lee. I told Ken I went to UConn and he talked about how much he liked the basketball program there. Had a race to hit Sidewalk first against Paul G, and he won of course, but I hit it soon after for the first time ever. Sat and talked with crazylegs32 John about a whole bunch of shit. Met Eve (I think that's her name) who we chatted about Vasek with, I then found out she is an amazing net player. World Champion Mixed Doubles?

Played 4 square for the first time and that was great. Goldberg was playing for a while which was crazy. Going to bring the game of 4 square back to my town, think a lot of people will enjoy that more than straight up freestyle. Also, got to screw around with a net bag and got tips from a man named Jeremy (I think?), I have pretty good control with my outsides so I want to keep learning. Oh and I was interview for a documentary haha, just remembered that. Can't wait to see that.

Yikes, it's getting late. I have mad short clips from the past couple of days but Paul has lots of good footage so I dont think I need to put it up. Maybe I will just throw up the raw footage later in a photobucket or some shiiit.

Peace!!!

Yo man, fun times playing with you at worlds :D

Drill that flip clip and keep that posture up straight and you'll be on your way to kicking some serious ass. I'll be keeping an eye on this blog, hope to see some cool updates from you in the future :P Rock on

Hell yeah Ben you helped me out a lot, thanks man!

And that is exactly what I've been doing, using and stretching the fuck out of my flip clipper. I've been trying that drill that goes
clip > mir >mir > op clip > mir > mir > clip > pdx mir > mir > op clip and so forth
but starting it on my weak clipper, so if I drop it there (which I usually do) I have to go back to it.

I'm practicing my alternating inside kicks because they suck. If my strong inside kick was a 10 my weak would be a 2. Horrible, absolutely dreadful! But with patience I'll work it out. I honestly don't want to do anything larger than a 2 add move for a while. Not until I get those clippers, legovers, far legovers, mirages, pick ups, and illusions down. Blah blah blah.

GOALS:
In a week...
10 consecutive flip inside kicks.
20 alternating inside kicks.
In a month...
10 consecutive flip clippers.
In 2 months...
Level 3 of the triforce drill.

I'll try to keep this crap updated!

Now times to go kick on this lovely day

Yo yo Tom! Naaah we never officially met, we were in that huge team nine square game together for like 5 minutes but that was it. Next time man, next time.

Kicked a little yesterday. Things are feeling good. Weak inside kick is a lt better than it was before worlds. Twice I hit 12 alternating consecutive kicks. 20 by next week sounds plausible. Just gotta keep kicking!!! God that sounds shitty but trust me, that's good for me.

Updates soon...

Awesome session today. I found a couple of kids in my town that really want to learn. They both ordered lavers and like 10 Mr. Sandbags haha.

One of the kids, Taylor, I kicked with today for 5 fucking hours. He was pretty good at alternating inside kicks (like 20) and could do an ATW like twice in a row. But that was it.

At the end of the day, he was able to hit mirages on both sides, and even hit four in a row on one side. He footed a couple of legovers and even landed like four butterflies clean. He seems better at butterflies than clippers. It's hard to teach clippers when I'm not that good at them myself but I think soon enough he will get them. He's only like 16 but he is catching on quickly, even when it comes to things like understanding ADDs and dex directions which is great. We are kicking again Monday, hopefully he will have his lavers by then. These guys are getting me back into footbag full force.

Now here's what I hit today!

24 consecutive strong inside kicks. (RECORD)
23 alternating inside kicks. (RECORD/GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!!!)
12 consecutive flip inside kicks. (RECORD/GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!!!)
35 strong mirages (RECORD)
11 flip mirages (RECORD)
10 strong clippers. (Ill say this is my record cuz I dont remember what it really is)

I almost fainted when I got to the end of that record run of mirages. I closed my eyes for a second, opened them up, and still hit three more. It was ridiculous. A great day overall!!!

GOALS:
(I think I'm better off doing all short term goals from now on, like within a week kind of shit, though I'll get to that level of play eventually either way.)
10 flip clips.
20 strong clips.
30 alternating inside kicks.
15 flip inside kicks.
20 flip mirages.
5 illusions both sides.
15 alternating legovers.
15 alternating pickups.

Once I feel comfortable with moves I'll start doing some simple drills like clip > mirage > legover > repeat. Shit like that.

Gotta get those flip clippers down ASAP!!!

next session monday, break tomorrow, we'll see what happens...

Well I guess no one got the freaking memo today, so I had to kick all by myself for a little over two hours. Still it was a damn good session.
What I hit:

18 Flip Mirages (RECORD) and damn close to my goal of 20.
31 alternating Inside kicks (new record and goal accomplished!)
33 alternating toe kicks (record)
9 alternating (obviously i guess) same side mirages (record) starting with my flip side
95 alternating toe stalls (record I guess),, wanna start doing 100 to warm up each session.
Nothing with clippers today sadly...

I had to lay down after I did those mirages. Ended the session with that so I could feel good about it. Ahhhhhh, and even though I didn't want to do anything bigger than a 2 add move for a while, for fun I tried and HIT

Flip pdx mirage for the first time!!! And not only hit it for the first time but hit it pdx mirage BSOS flipside first. That felt damn good. Ohhh and also Osis > pdx mirage for the first time.

Fun times, too bad no one showed up today. Maybe later this week.

-Tim

ps I need new Lavers, but I don't want just the same old blue or green ones, it would be cool to find some red ones to match my shorts. *shrug*

Short ass session today, AGAIN alone. :( Nothing good with my flip clippers which is pretty frustrating...But I'm trying...

I found a new spot to kick at, on the other side of the boardwalk that has outlets that work. So next time I go down for a session (Friday?) I'll bring a boombox. Siiiick.

What I did today:

20 consecutive strong clippers (GOAL ACCOMPLISHED! and new record!)
Ehh and 11 consecutive legovers (new record I think?)

Now for the usual "stuff I didn't want to try to hit but did anyway" section. I've only been able to do like two butterflies in my life consecutively and that has always been strong butterfly > shitty infinity >drop haha. BUT I was feeling good and decided to try consecutive same side butterflies aaand hit

5 same side butterflies in a fucking row! Set from same side clipper!!! I don't where this came from, but each time I did one I saw my foot cranking perfectly to the bag, it was unbelievable.

Also, from watching Chris do xbd rakes I tried a couple and hit
xbd rake > mirage > butterfly
which was fun.

I can't kick as much as I want this week and the next because I'm working shitty hours. 10pm to 6am 10 nights in a row starting last night. I'm trying to get a job at a doggy day care thing haha. That would be great.

-Tim!

ps 10 consec flip clippers next time I kick. Promise.
