John Goode Enjoying Nice Weather Blog

Post by g00d33 » 21 Jun 2008 08:56

Hi, my name is John Goode and I've been playing since mid october' 07. I figured I'd finally start a blog because I have some free time due to the fact that I recently sprained my ankle playing soccer and can't footbag for a bit :( My ankle was getting a lot better then of course i was walking down some stairs in my house last night and slipped, which i believe may be the cause for my newfound pain in my ankle, so hopefully this gets better as quick as possible, and I'll be posting in here again :!:

Hey John!

So what's your level of play? What kind of stuff were you hitting before getting hurt.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Hear from you soon!

So I guess I could say I'm roughly tiltless. Unfortunately, I have the tragic flaw of concentrating on hitting something new as opposed to having good string length. Example: One session I was trying to hit crispy flux and crispy grifter, with like one or two extreme almosts of each, and then all of a sudden I realized I'd have a better chance of hitting paradon, so I hit that bs before the day was done. I've also been working on raking moves, such as ducking, diving, and butterfly rakes. Now my problem is that I still can't put everything together. So I recently started a challenge thread so that I could be given drills to help with the string length issue, and its had some minor success so far. I haven't played since June 14 because I was at an American Legion thing for a week, the place where I sprained my ankle when I got kicked in the ankle while playing soccer midweek.

Today, I took my crutches and balanced my self on my weak leg so i could do some lefty ATWs just to feel like I'm not completely without footbag for a while. I also tried to do lefty pixie set. First 2 or 3 attempts had potential. It went downhill from there. This lasted a whopping 3 minutes. Woo :!:

Alright, although I have a sprained ankle, I still plan on entering the online sick 1 and sick 3 comps. Today my ankle really showed some progress on getting better, So I should be able to at least film something by the 30th. I know what I'm going to do for the sick 1. Now I just need to figure something out for sick 3. Good thing I'll have plenty of free time!

I again had nothing to do due to my ankle and all of the websites online had nothing new and sleeping was now boring. So I decided to try and finally learn flip pixie set barefoot. I had a lot of progress for the most part. I only tried to hit magellan twice and came close both times, but I was in close quarters and hit my toe on something another time, so working on the set itself would suffice. I also worked on fairy set. I haven't drilled it on my strongside so this was something new, especially for starting out on flipside. That had mild success as well. The majority went a bit too far to the left but I had like one good one. So yeah, I'm getting restless from no real footbag. I hope my ankle heals sooner than later

Alright, I decided to get out and record my sick 1 and sick 3 today. Today was my first real day not wearing a brace on my ankle, so some things were interesting. Originally, my sick three was supposed to be symp mirage > diving rake > (in?)spinning clipper. After being out of the game for two weeks, I just couldn't do it. I couldn't even do a normal mirage. But symp mirage worked out nicely in the long run cause I didn't have to put pressure on my ankle mid move. Somehow in the middle of what seemed like a thousand tries to do stuff, I kind of fixed my symp mirage form, so that kind made stuff easier again. So from there I ended up going with symp mirage > diving clipper > far xbd rake. For my sick 1, i was planning on toe set diving butterfly rake. But that put pressure on my ankle, therefor that was a no no. Then I caved in to trying normal toe set ducking butterly rake. While I was just messing around, I decided to try spinning rake. I came freakishly close on several occasions but could never seal the deal. So I had to settle for ducking butterfly rake. It wasn't the cleanest one I've ever done but I didn't have much of a choice at that point. On a good note, I had absolutely no shin pain. In the past, I've easily gotten shin pain in my left leg from doing a lot of symp mirages. Today, idk if it was a result of my left leg being stronger from being used more in my crippleness or the use of insoles, or maybe a combination of both, but I'm not complaining. So for any who read this, Thanks :!:

I would have liked that first sick 3 - definitely at the top of the novice division.

Hope your ankle fully heals soon, it seems like you could get good really quickly.

Thanks, I definitely would've liked to do that one.

On a side note, I forgot to mention earlier that I finally did another mod besides the lacing mod to my shoes today! I only cut the stitches in the toe box, so yeah.

Got up early today to go play footbag but I decided to stay off my ankle since I had to work an 8 hour shift today. I got $46 in tips so I'm not going to complain. I ordered a pair of nastases last week just to replace my lavers as normal shoes. They came today :!: I can finally mod my lavers without fear. It also works out so that when I again get new shoes I can just mod the nastases and use those if my lavers are dead by then. That was my day

Went and played soccer (football) today despite my ankle. I only played in shootouts and such though. I had to do it all lefty, which was fun. Ambidexterity from footbag is paying off!

Two hour session today. Due to my ankle I couldnt string anything, I could only try single or like 3 tricks at a time. And inadvertantly I learned how to make pixie sets much easier. I won't lie though, I still sucked at them :) I was able to duck one though (that ended on a ground delay  ). I could only do the set off my bad leg cause my good leg was doing the bounce, so no vice-versa. I got a bunch of pixie clippers this way and almost a few smears. My other conquest of the day was gyro mirage :!: I've been trying at it for a while. Since I could finally do normal mirages again today I took a whack at it. After a while I hit a very sloppy one. Then hit it twice more fine-ish

In the past couple days I hit the smears with the revamped set. But I haven't played in a few days. I just want to play footbag :!:

I played soccer today then footbag. I kind of learned how to rake the soccer ball on the ground, which was pretty fun. I also took a whack at alternating toe stalls with the ball in my lavers, which I was mildly successful at. I hit a lot of ATWs with the ball too. I even held a clipper for like two seconds! That was a highlight. Hey, if vasek can do it with a ball, why can't we? Oh yeah, we're not vasek  Okay, footbag. This was only 20 minutes, maybe a half hour. I guess the highlight of that was hitting ducking mirage > diving rake. Oh yeah, I also hit my first clipper set diving clipper today (at least I think it was my first, I might've hit it a while ago and never tried again). No real strings today. I'm not going to try too hard with those until I can fully use my right clipper again. I guess maybe I'm trying to avoid doing something "I don't have to do while 'injured' " but I really should just work on it anyway. There's always plenty to do. So thats my ramble of the day

Another day of freestyle soccer attempts then footbag (the better). I hit mirage bsos with the soccer ball which was really sweet. Later I got up to 17 alternating toe stalls with it.

My ankle was much better today and I could once again do clippers, so I decided to go back to working on string length. I made my goal for the day to be 10 tiltless, which I was able to do. Nothing else special really happened. I hit ducking mirage > diving mirage again sloppily today.

I'm really psyched to be able to start playing seriously again. So for the next few sessions, I'm going to take on my challenges, which should help a lot in getting back into the game. So we shall see :!:

Toe set rev whirl today :D I only hit it on my flipside as of right now. At least I think its my flipside. I don't even know anymore. I guess its my strong dexing leg but my weak clipper :?: It won't be long before I hit it "strong side" and clipper set both sides. I'm going to drill reg whirls a bit more too cause they still suck

I've also been trying to focus on the symp mirage > butterfly > paradox mirage > rpt drill just cause I like it and want it done, but whenever I get halfway through, I either (A) run out of room on my deck and risk falling off for the second half (B) drop on the second symp mirage cause I can't make a good jump/dex cause my ankle still isn't at 100% or (C) rake the second symp mirage too much and the bag goes flying.

If anyone would care to shed some light on the whole strongside/flipside thing then that would be wonderful. Thanks :!:
