Is it ok to ask you to elaborate a bit about your back issue, how you presented footbag to your doctor, and what precautions he recommended?
I've got budding footbag friend who's got back problems as well, and she won't see a doctor because she's convinced he'll tell her footbag is an absolute no-no.
I'm really encouraged to see your doctor say it's ok, so I'm thinking it might convince my friend to see her doctor as well!

Other than that, your plan sounds good. However, repetition alone is only one factor. May I suggest taking short video snaps of yourself doing the , and look at them in slow-mo to see what's going on. If you're going to practice 100 toe stalls without being aware of how it looks from the side, it may ingrain bad habits.

my back problems do not derive from footbag, so anything you read here does not mean your friend has this problem. my problem is i hunch over my computer all day and that causes my muscle between my shoulder blades to contract. the doctor i went to is actually a sports medicine doctor, and he said its okay to footbag because im going to be doing physical therapy. i actually showed him some videos of me that i have up on myspace. what happens with me and my doctor might not happen with your friend.

so heres some pictures from today at school:

footbag stuff soon. ive been playing with my squishy aiden bag!

Cool pics Holly!! The one of Brian really makes me laugh.

Bring a footbag for me to buy at NYJ, if possible I would like the same color scheme as the 2 I already have, just slightly modified. Ill shoot you a pm with a pic.

And you almost spelled my name right. Its actually spelled Zach "Awesome" Jahner.

Hey Holly.

I am to hear your back in the game. Welcome.

Maybe you could get something out of reading this:
http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=17541

Sounds like your plan is what we all should do.

I get some of the same pain as you (from computering) could you post the excercises (sp?) please?

I wish I could go to NYJ someday.

Okay, so I had a request to share what the physical therapists are telling me.

When I went in on Tuesday, they started out by "mapping" my back. They informed me that my right wing (harhar) is large. She then put me on a bicycle for arms, and asked me to pedal backwards. The first time I went I was on the bike for 5 minutes, and they are gradually moving me to longer times.

They then took me over to this rubber band thing.
Pretty much, they are giant rubber bands, that are different colors. The different colors have different tensions and resistances. Here's what they look like with old people:

She then taught me some very useful stretches. I can;t do video for you, but essentially what you do is bend forward and put your right hand behind your left knee and "arch your back like a scared cat". lol. This will stretch the muscle on the right side of your back between your shoulder blade and your spine. Hold for 30 seconds. Then switch to your left side. Fairly simple.

They then gave me my own thera-bands, and a sheet of paper with what to do. Here is the paper:
Image

I'm pretty sore, needless to say. It's got me using muscles that I don't normally use. The whole purpose is for back strengthening, and they say that will help my posture.

After all that, they put electrodes on my back and gave me shock therapy. I hated it. The next time I went I asked them just to skip that part all together.

They have this really cool pool that has a treadmill underwater that helps strengthen the part of your back that is above water. Pretty nifty.

I'm working on atw's now. It's like my left leg doesn't want to dex in circles, but in squares. I need to practice the dex without a bag.

I use those old people resistnace bands for my ankle. I also used it for my knee when i messed it up.

Hotel room should be booked by the end of next week. I told the 2 randoms that want to come to tell my by the end of the week or they need to worry about getting their own rooms.

long time. again.

went to cic bday jam... was the first time i had actually tried footbag in a year and a half. first session felt amazing and i felt a lot more confident in my set heights and consistency. my back is much much better.

second session i hit symp mirage and illusion. both new tricks.

third session i didnt hit anything new. i did pull off a 6 contact string with bsos legovers.

---------------------------------
some notes from monday's session:
todays session:
atw out>in
atw in>out
opp atw out>in
clipper
opp clipper
clipper>toe
opp clipper>toe
butterfly>toe

challenges not completed:
ss mirage x4 - nathan
opp butterfly>toe - nathan

requests:
rakes - reid
illusions - self
opp pickups & legovers - self/jon nagela
clippers btb - self

there will be more kicking when i get off work. its a good feeling when i start paying attention to set height without thinking about it. my motivation level is high.

need to stretch more.
-------------------------------

I thought your mirage drills looked really good. When you missed, it was only because the set got too far away from you - that's easy to fix/focus on.
