70% goals for this year completed!

Post by Radek » 22 May 2011 01:36

You might know me from wrc footbag movies, but I have to say you have watched different me. Why? Well the times when my combos recorded in wrc footbag sessions, I had no clue how important is thinking in footbag. I focused mainly on fun which is err fun, but it accelerate your progress that well as planning your game.

Few years ago I didn't know how to plan my game, I tried to hit Montage (7add) almost every session, while I wasn't really able to hit 2xps whirl or even 2x symposium whirl at my strong side. That's Radek from WRC footbag movies.

Nowadays, it looks completely different. And my change was inspired by Vasek, Ales, Clavens and lately Jorden.

The change. Chapter I "Vasek's 10 seconds inspiration"

By Vasek, because of one movie: Vasek Stand Alone, especially two drills Vasek has done there: spender>food processor>rpt, mobius>food processor>rpt. I've seen it and I thought, that is the most beautiful pack of links I ever seen.

In December 2010 I decided to create a game plan leading me to hit these drills or at least get really close. I still didn't know how to do it, but December is definitely a begining of my change. At christmas I decided to make 100 goals for year 2011, that will get me close to these drills (which I imagine to hit in summer 2012). The list has been created in last days of December when I hit link spender>food processor and it has pleased me as much as frightened. My flipside in comparison to my strongside was like the middle ages to 20th century.

Chapter II "Ales control inspiration"

Most of us, if not all, know Ales' special video. I will not describe this video, I will post it here:

I watched it many times and just 2 months ago I lsitened to Ales' advices about control. Ales changed me even more than Vasek. I had my plan with blenders but instead of trying to hit spenders and food processors I went back to blenders and pdx blenders. That's not all. I don't have any joy from hitting blender or pdx blender, it has to be sometging more, so I created training combos. I can create them with every trick I want to hit. Here is example on blender control training:

Blender>butterfly>pdx blender>butterfly>rpt

I don't focus on hitting blenders, I focus on hitting it in perfect way to execute perfect butterfly after it and to have perfect set to a trick after butterfly. Perfect idea. After two sessions I noticed a progress in control.
Week or two ago I have hit
food processor>butterfly>blender>butterfly>rpt

One of my goals that I haven't completed yet is food>ripwalk>rpt and I don't want to hit it with running arround on butterflies. I want to hit it controlled, and now you probably see the hard work I do this year.

Chapter III 'David clavens convinces'

David Clavens' videos convinced me that tricks like fogs can look nice and that toe game is necessary to do nice and interesting combos. After watching his movies from Denmark's sessions I realized that he has enormous stamina. Density of his runs in company of a length of his runs make my face look like this: 8O .

So Claven's inspiration matters for me same as Ales' one. It justs push me to hard work in different areas. For example: I would not challenged myself with such a goal like 200x butterflies (still not completed, hard work will pay off so I don't worry much) or hitting mirage>leg over>rpt as many times as I can (so far my PR is 11x) same with leg overs, ss mirages, ss ilusions, etc.

Chapter IV 'Jorden's trick selections'

Lately I am strongly inspired by these famous 23 videos by Jorden. His tricks selection drives me crazy, and one goal that I actually already completed was fully inspired by him (slicing butterfly). No need to write here a book, just to make your point of view full I will list couple tricks I drain from Jorden's game.

1. Fairy sets
2. ilussions (eggbeaters, massacre)
3. Slicing set.
4. gyro double blender (?!)
5. tripless game

I really want food and p blender to be easy and effortless too....

good luck with the ankle and your goals are sick 8)

Well my left ankle is still swollen but I am addicted to shred and had to go outside.

I am still not able to bend my ankle to clipper there but I trained hard on my flipside toe mainly.

I have done 25 eggbeaters to make some 'muscle memory', also i was hitting a lot of legbeaters, smears, quantum sets BS.

Result of the last is a new drill for me: toe blur>smear>rpt

I was doing one exercise to train legbeaters on flipside, but it was too boring so i changed it to a combo I repeated till drop:

legbeater>diving butterfly>pdx mirage>tripwalk>diving butterfly>pdx mirage

I noticed a progress at flipside. ;)

I hope my left ankle will not be swollen in a week or two so I can do some sessions. Well, maybe no news in footbag in this post but I bring some news from my life to you.

Well a bit of crazy time for me right now, because I am heading to Netherlands to work there for two months, if the plan with Netherlands would not work I still got a plan 'b' which is Belgium. Also going there to work, probably building stuff.

Seems like not a good time to progress in footbag at all, but even I go work to Belgium I will take bag and a hat and try to earn some extra money in the street performance.

The good news is that after I come back from my job, I will probably buy a camera with hd recordings (going to spend arround 1,5k US dollars on that one, it will be Canon one I think because i totally trust Canon's products) so you can expect some nice footbag photos and shred sessions caught on tape and uploaded in this footblog pretty often.

Pray for my ankle,

Radek :D

Seems like your wishes worked David, just came back from succesful session.

My ankle is still swollen but I went to play a bit anyway. Tried to hit my first beast, I didn't suceed here but I know what should I change to hit it sooner than I thought.

Also as I have written in the begining of this post, David's wishes worked like a magic spell and I hit another goal from my list.

Nr 26 bye, bye. Double blender>spender in third try today. I realized my strongside spender got better after all these blender's exercises. ;)

I feel good.

I feel even better after today's session. My flipside pdx blender got better enough to train it on a bit higher level. Results came quickly.

Pdx blender>pdx whirl>rpt

And the big step to my main goal (I remind it is spender>food processor>rpt):

pdx blender>spinning osis>rpt

I've hit it three times, and I believe it will be added to my exercises with blenders.

I feel like I am able to hit furious drifter even in next week, but I am not going push forward that much on one side. I still didn't hit janiwalker b2b which shows how much do I SUCK at my flipside barraging >.<. Strongside ain't that bad thought since It isn't a problem to hit Fury for me.

Enough words, I don't want to get your brains boiled ;)

PS. I'm close to exams on driver license, drived to oil station today with my car, hell yeah ;p.

Today I had really good session (probably one of the best this summer) with Hania and Yeti.

I worked mainly on control and technic (spin!) and here are results:

whirl's/spin's technic and control progress:

gyro mirage>toe set ss whirl>gyro mirage>toe set whirl>rpt
spinning pdx mirage>toe set ss whirl>spinning pdx mirage>toe set whirl>rpt
spinning clipper>ducking clipper>diving clipper>zulu clipper>gyro clipper>rpt

torque/blender control progress:

MANY times mobius bsosed
pdx blender>blender>pdx blender>bl....drop
food processor>ripwalk BS (nothing new though)
Spender>buttefly>mobius BS (well, thats NEW)

Well I felt some power so I tried to hit my first combo with more than one 7 add trick in it:
Blurry massacre (cleaaaaan, controlled, hell yeah)>short run>cold fusion (fucking footed so I haven't done a combo with 1+ 7 add tricks in it yet >.<)

Edit: god damn I forgot I also hit:

PR: barflyx7
rubberman>stepper>barrage>paradon (I didn't do plasticman because I was tired and I didn't want to twist my ankle 3rd time this summer ;p)

Today I had really nice session with Olaf (known as Olaf), Hania (known as err Hania), Yeti (known as Bartosz Rzasa) and Pawel Rozek.

I managed to hit another goal from my list: janiwalker b2b! I've never done such a clean set at flipside before. Such a good feeling. Also I had quite funny momment. We were talking about David's (Clavens of course) alpine fogs and Yeti passed a bag to me and said 'Ok now hit it'. I answerred 'No problem' and got it in first try super clean and controlled. The funny part is that this trick is quite... mmm out of my reach, because i never even got close to ducking pdx dlo and I'd expect hitting spikehammer in first 3 tries more than hitting alpine fog in first 50 000 tries, so it's pretty obvious that my face looked like that : 8O when I caught a bag :D

Also tried to hit new training combo: Mobius>butterfly>pdx blender>butterfly>rpt but I ended up at mobius>butterfly>pdx blender>butterfly>mobius :S, still I feel pretty optimistic at this one (especially pdx blender technic and being 'comfotable while hitting' at my flipside - I just may have hope that you know what I mean).

edit:

I forgot I had also 15x unique tripless of 20 I plan to do in near future.

blur>atomsmasher>legbeater>blur>atomsmasher>legbeater>ripwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>sidewalk>ducking butterfly>spinning butterfly>spinning pdx mirage>dimwalk>ducking butterfly>drop

And I plan to hit:

edit2 (pasted it wrong, thx Ken for pointing it out)
blur>atomsmasher>legbeater>blur>atomsmasher>legbeater>ripwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>sidewalk>blizzard>parkwalk>ducking butterfly>spinning butterfly>spinning pdx mirage>dimwalk>ducking butterfly>spinning butterfly>spinning osis>torque

Something's missing here, since you need to get to toe somehow from the sidewalk.

Bad quality, but showing an important thing. I focus on reducing difference between strongside and flipside.

Earlier I thought it's 3 new goals becuase I forgot I got one before this session but let's call it new 3 since this time I hit it really controlled.

1. Spinning pdx whirl>pdx drifter>drifter>rpt
2. Jacknife BSOS (YES!)
3. Food processor>ripwalk>rpt (YES, FUCK YES!)

Also I've hit a run with pdx whirl BS, pdx eggbeater BS and pdx DLO BS.

Force is with me.
