Well, there goes that new fitness plan out the window. Today Natel told me she wants to do P90X so we are doing it together. This might mean less footbag this summer, but I can live with that if it means getting in better shape to be able to play better and harder later on. It's been a goal to complete P90X, but I had decided it was an off season goal. Oh well, I'm excited to help Natel get healthier. She's not unhealthy or fat by any means, but she doesn't get much exercise.

We started today. We're doing the Lean version of P90X so we started with Core Synergistics. It's a good workout. Kinda incorporates a bunch of stuff so it stays interesting. We both did pretty terrible as far as reps or pushing hard went, but that's the way it goes when just starting.

In 1 hour, 5 minutes I burned 833 calories.

Nice.
That sounds really fun.
I'm trying to get my girlfriend to work out too. She's really skinny with an Asian metabolism, but she has trouble doing a single girl pushup. So I'm actually not sure how to workout together since our levels are so far apart. Even bike riding, she bikes about the same speed that she walks. Suggestions?

It's pretty hard to recommend something when your levels are so different. With video programs like P90X they show some variations so there is usually something easier to do for her and harder for you while still doing basically the same thing. Problem is you need an hour dedicated to it each day. Unless you just pick and chose which videos to do when which is doable. I liked 10 minute trainer too since it can be just 13 minutes a day and a lot is with weights so she can use light ones while you use heavier ones.

With push ups in particular she could do wall push ups, incline push ups, kneeling HALF push ups and other easier variations until she had the strength to do full ones. And if full ones get to easy for you you can uneven and then on arm push ups.

It sounds like she needs strength building WAY more than cardio, and I know you get plenty of cardio. Do you have access to a gym with free weights? Maybe with your Uni you have free access... I do mostly body weight with some dumb bells thrown in for P90X, but fitocracy friends say chasing PB's on barbell workouts is really fun and satisfying. Might be something to look at, but I like the idea of being in command of your body more so than being able to lift a big bar. I'm gonna try to send you a book I enjoyed. Just waiting for it to upload to my Google Drive.

Ah! Gotta love that all over hurt feeling you get after Day 1 of P90X. Hurts so good.

Between the pain of that and the fact that I'm still not used to using quantums again, it was an interesting footbag session to say the least. Just a short on on my lunch break. 95 alternating toe stalls. plo > plo. That's pretty much the best I did. But I'm still kinda proud for kicking through the DOMS and getting a small sweat on.

P90X Lean Day 3 - Arms and Shoulders & Ab Ripper X

I love it, but I hate it. Bit of a weird day today. Went to work for 1.5 hours, then left with my boss to go look at jets and other military aircraft. Got back to work, had a snack and then left to go to the dentist.

Yesterday was an interesting day. It started with a dentist appointment. I don't like dentists. And my teeth are pretty terrible. Two fillings yesterday. Mouth hurt all day at work, which just seemed to drag on and on and on. After work I had a hair appointment scheduled. Both the dentist and hair appointment are a fair ways off my normal route (about the same distance as home in the opposite direction of work) so this added a considerable amount of leg use to my day. Anyway, I head home figuring it's time to do P90X with my wife. I find her in bed reading. I try to prod her out of bed to no avail. She refuses to get up and work out with my because she's too tired. I biked all over town today in addition to working, but she's too tired. It wouldn't have bothered me (working out alone is nothing new for me) except that it was her idea to start P90X together and I would rather try to play as much Footbag as possible. Grr.

Even though I was annoyed I decided to go ahead with the work out. As I was setting up the video, she came out of the bed room in her work out gear. :D I was very happy to have the motivation to get in a good workout and I'm pretty sure if she had stayed in bed I would've half assed the workout. My wife is awesome.

Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X last night. tonight is Kenpo X. I really enjoyed the kicking and punching parts of Power 90 and Insanity so I'm hoping I really enjoy this too.

Has it really been over a month? I made it further on P90X this time around. Then we found out my wife is pregnant again. Fearing any bad effects the intense P90X workouts might have on the baby she stopped working out immediately. I think I did one or two days without her... Then I stopped too. I've gotten back into working out in the last week or so, but not hardcore. I've been playing footbag a few times a week and mixing in calisthenics throughout my session. I think it's a good mix or cardio and strength training. I really don't think I'll blog much about my sessions anymore. I'm not hitting anything crazy cool anyway. Look me up on facebook if you want to see what I'm hitting. I think I'll post one highlight a session on their. One highlight a session is about all I get anyway.

In other news... I've started a new blog based on a new hobbie/quest I am on. You can check it out at:

Wannabe Code Monkey

PS: Really cool new redesign. I assume this is Allan's work? Anyway, I think it looks way more professional and that is a VERY good thing for the sport. Also noticed Freedom promoting the site on FB. Great job. /clap

Wanted to pop in and mention a new workplace habit I'm trying to start. I read it on The Art of Manliness blog. Basically every time you need to leave your chair you do 10 push ups and then 10 squats when you return. And some Chair dips before and after lunch breaks. I leave my chair all the time to work on computers all around my office, so I changed it to anytime I leave my office. Which is a lot considering the amount of water I drink thoughout the day. :-) Just wanted to share.

First workout of the challenge out of the way!

Aerobic Dance Class:
0:45:00 || Moderate (+166 pts)
Footbag!
Horizontal Pull:
6 reps (+7 pts)
6 reps (+7 pts)
6 reps (+7 pts)
Flat Bent Leg Raise:
15 reps (+5 pts)
20 reps (+5 pts)
15 reps (+5 pts)

Nothing too special. Just footbag (mostly working on inside kick control) and some calesthenics. That's pretty much going to be the routine for the next 6 weeks at least. With different exercises subbed in place of horizontal Pull and Flat Bent Leg Raise. I didn't do nearly as good as I had hoped at the inside kicks. I wanted to get to 100+ at least 5 times, but only made it 3 times with a smattering of ~50 kicks. Still, not terrible for the first day.

My general plan is to work out at least 3 times a week (M, W, F) and do a different 2 moves on each day. I also do some push ups and squats throughout the day at work.

Yesterday I had finished up under my calorie goal by 50 calories when friends invited us out for coffee. I really need to work on self control. I had a stupid latte supreme with whip cream and ended up over by 180 calories. I could have had tea and finished spot on. Or water since it was pretty late at night anyway.

We've made an appointment with our bank to see the mortgage specialist. The appointment isn't until the 21st though. I'm going to see about making appointments in other places as well to give us more options or just more chances to make it work.

Windows awoke early and headed into the Jungle filled cargo bay on his freighter. Before his cousin awoke, he trained.

Jump Rope:
0:02:00 (+9 pts)
Short Bridge:
10 reps (+8 pts)
10 reps (+8 pts)
10 reps (+8 pts)
Headstand:
18 sec (+5 pts)
30 sec (+9 pts)
21 sec (+6 pts)
Aerobic Dance Class:
0:35:00 || Moderate (+129 pts)
Footbag!

:arrow: 110 inside kicks
:arrow: 110 inside kicks
:arrow: 101 inside kicks
:arrow: 106 inside kicks
:arrow: 104 inside kicks
:arrow: 21 tiltless

Morning workouts are a bit tough on me. I find that my body isn't FULLY awake and everything just feels a little bit sluggish. The head stands are working towards handstands and eventually handstand push ups. When I was really young I think I spent almost as much time standing on my head as I did on my feet. I was a little disappointed I only hit 30 seconds once. I guess I'm out of practice. I'm sort of following the Convict Conditioning progressions for HSPU, but I decided since I can do headstands without a wall, I might as well work on my inverted balance and skip the wall. For handstands I will be using the wall at first, but hope to eventually move away from it.

Knee Boarding on Saturday wrecked my body. lol Even after doing Stretch X yesterday I'm still stiff this morning. Made workout tougher than I like this morning...

Jump Rope:
0:05:00 (+24 pts)
Body Weight Squat:
20 reps (+13 pts)
20 reps (+13 pts)
20 reps (+13 pts)
Push-Up:
10 reps (+15 pts)
12 reps (+18 pts)
10 reps (+15 pts)
Aerobic Dance Class:
0:50:00 || Broke a Sweat (+124 pts)
Footbag!

:arrow: 123 inside kicks
:arrow: 86 inside kicks
:arrow: 199 inside kicks
:arrow: 283 inside kicks

Holding onto the ski rope did a number on my arms and shoulders. I'm really disappointed in my push up numbers, but there isn't much I can do about it. Knee Boarding was totally worth it! :-D Squats were pretty good, I'd like to add more reps to it next time. With inside kicks, I'm pretty happy. That 283 was nice to see and gives me hope I can get to 500 in the next 5 weeks.

So... we got pre approved for a mortgage. Too bad we can't use the pre approval...

A combination of retail salaries and a stupid expensive military/oilfield town have conspired to pretty much make sure we don't have a place to live. Our currently rent to going up to more than we can afford. Can't find ANYTHING cheaper to rent other than just a room. One room in a house with strangers. And those situations don't allow kids so our little package on the way wouldn't work out so well... Anyway... we got the mortgage and figured that would solve our problems. But there isn't anything available in our price range. Technically we could afford some according to the mortgage we got, but then we couldn't really afford to pay them, so... ya. Good times.

And our current financial situation is only going to get worse when my wife goes on mat leave and then when she does get back to work we need to pay for child care.

UURRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

/sigh

Pulled myself outta bed again this morning for my workout.

Jump Rope:
0:04:00 (+19 pts)
Aerobic Dance Class:
0:50:00 || Intense! (+255 pts)
Footbag!
Horizontal Pull:
8 reps (+10 pts)
8 reps (+10 pts)
6 reps (+7 pts)
Half Pull-Up:
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
Negatives

92 inside stalls
24 inside stalls
61 inside stalls
47 inside stalls
90 inside stalls
46 inside stalls
1 or 2 decent tiltless runs

I've started following twentypullsups.com or at least following something that resembles it. I haven't been following the rest timings so much. Mostly because I don't have anything handy to time with. I think it working because my arms have that awesome almost dead feeling that I haven't had since I did P90X. It also tells me I've been taking it too easy in most of my work outs. Time to take it up a few notches.

Sorry to hear about the financial crunch/housing challenge. Would moving to another city be an option? Crossing my fingers things work out.

We are seriously thinking about moving cities. Lethbridge, Alberta is seeming like a VERY real possibility.

After being a lazy bum this morning I got my workout in tonight. My muscles work better in the evening, but I generally like getting it done first thing so I don't have to worry about it throughout my day.

Jump Rope:
0:02:00 (+9 pts)
Headstand:
45 sec (+13 pts)
50 sec (+15 pts)
the 50 second one I came out of the wrong way. Felt it like it might have tweaked my neck a little, but I feel good now.
Crow Stand:
6 sec (+2 pts)
Sweaty legs and arms make these dificult
Short Bridge:
50 reps (+40 pts)
50 reps (+40 pts)
Half Pull-Up:
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps (+3 pts)
1 reps (+3 pts)
The assisted ones are negtives. The other was supposed to be a full pull up.
Aerobic Dance Class:
1:00:00 || Intense! (+306 pts)
Footbag

239 inside stalls
Under 50 inside stalls a bunch
62 inside stalls
Magellan x2 Both sides

I was so close to my new goal of 250 inside stalls. So close I started thinking about how nice it would to cross it off my list and then DROP! Oh well, no big deal. The magellanx2 was kinda surprising too.

Haha, yes it is very windy. Natel's folks live down there so we visit fairly often. I imagine footbag outdoors could be challenging. I generally play inside anyway...

Another workout done. A little shorter than usual as I filtered some footbag out. Gotta head to friends place tonight to help with some computer trouble.

Jump Rope:
0:04:00 (+19 pts)
0:40:00 || Intense! (+204 pts)
Horizontal Pull:
8 reps (+10 pts)
5 reps (+6 pts)
5 reps (+6 pts)
Flat Bent Leg Raise:
20 reps (+5 pts)
20 reps (+5 pts)
20 reps (+5 pts)
Half Pull-Up:
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)
1 reps || assisted (+3 pts)

The mobile web version of fitocracy is really starting to piss me off. I spend more time fighting with it in my work outs than I deem needed and it STILL eff's it up. The second session of jump rope you see above was recorded as Aerobic Dance with my usual note of Footbag! underneath but fitocracy can't get that right. And I spend about 10 minutes cleaning up the other ones that it kept add/deleting on me. GGRRRRRR!!!

Hit 104 inside stalls and swirl x2 (both sides)
