Good shit Dustin! You'll be hitting my dream tricks (69 and nemesis) before I do, no doubt. Your vortex sumo combo made me think of a cool drill: 69-vortex rpt.

I'm hopeful for 69 soonish (withen a year or 6 months or something) since blurry drifter and drifters in general are getting so much stronger as well as my nukes.

I'm less hopeful for a clean nemesis. I'm just not that fast :) I don't know if I'll ever hit a quad dex but if I do I think shooting dlo is probably the best possibility. Also, 3 and 4 dex tricks just aren't something I work on that much or am that driven to hit.

really weird upper upper shin pain. Was sharp before the session, afterwards it felt dull. I'm pretty sure at this point it was a tiny tiny shin muscle freaking out/cramping but it's strange.

flip nuke mid run no problem
blurry drifter is getting so easy
some better flip drifters
merkon > legbeater bsos this is only hard for me because my legovers suck so much
swifter (never hit it before thanks peter!)
so close to nuclear drifter (not 69)
same with tapping drifter
lots of dlo's and I can do it from toe easy now!!

Add a drifter at the end and make it a drill!

Also, race you to 69.

woo I like it ken! I'm really liking the way merlin looks. OK, I'm kind of working towards 69 without realizing it from doing drifters + nuclear so we'll see what happens. I'm not expecting it any time soon though :)

thursday session, brians back hurts and steve and alex are both recovering from various injuries so they didn't play long so it was mostly me drilling...

spinning drifter
flip merlin a couple times
flip pixie got ok
spinning mirage > drifter rpt.
smear>whirl>blur rpt.
flip spinning whirl (is actually possibly better as it's my strong whirl)
spinning whirl > infinity > spinning whirl
lots of legover and pickup stuff since I suck at those
lots of dlos
lots of flip barflys
lots of drifters

played on friday, saturday and today.
friday:
flip pixie yay
butterfly swirl

Saturday:
ehh ok...
butterfly swirl was bad as my abs were so sore from friday
hurt my shoulder
flip pixie yay
pixie ss butter > stepping ss mirage rpt. > blur > dimwalk rpt.

today:
dave brian and I in mountain view
man so good, no drifters, pdx torque, spinning ducking, reverse swirl, or nuclear as they are what's keeping my shoulder/back from healing, this means tons of shuffle. It's very interesting because this is how I used to play but my shuffle is way more varied now so that's fun. But I also feel very boring just doing shuffle again.
good form
ripwalk swirl (riptide!). A new 3 dex move! Also very close to pixie double legover which would be another new 3 dex.

dave and brian were tearing it up also with very good form.

tuesday session:

Good for a stanford session. Flip pixie and flip barfly weren't as good as on sunday but they were still ok. Blurriest is getting easier and easier. Worked on barrage form. I like it when it's hit like whirl > mirage so that's what I'm going for. Still no drifters, inspins, spin ducks, reverse swirls, or nukes and the back/shoulder is getting better. Lots of atomic stuff. Tons of spinning/gyro legovers/pickups, super fun and adding some nice variety to my play. Some infinity swirls but still not as easy as they should be. I need a set up trick to hit it well.

Either today or tomorrow I'm going to work on symp stuff. Brian suggested thinking of it as lifting my legs up instead of pushing down and jumping as high as I can and I think that should help a lot. As it is I land to hard on symp tricks. I think I'm overestimating the amount of muscle required to do them vs. just good form.

Solo Session:

double pickup both sides (first time for either side!)
all of the double downs (clipper/toe, ss/opp, both sides)
another new triple dex in pixie paradon.
blur > paradon rpt.
double pickup > butter rpt.
merlin > flip paradon
merkon > tap > flip paradon
basically my double downs are finally getting good enough that I can hit them in strings without feeling super 1 sided and awkward.

Lots of symp stuff.
ss merlin both sides.
merlin both sides
pdx. flail > butter rpt.
some nice and easy ps whirls.
symp. atomic which I haven't done in forever but was shooting up.
pixie symp mirage.

some good flip pixies.
5 flip smears one string

and ken I can't do drifters at the moment because of my back but lest you think I'm not practicing that drill I did...
merkon > ss butter - 14 contacts
Short but good session.

session with brian and dave in down town mountain view

good
flip pixies
figured out that it's flip pdx drifter that's messing up the back so that means I can avoid this while still doing some other things
double spinning clipper
spinning ducking super easy
lots of double downs tricks both sides

bad
shin splints
flip inspins are not so good, my footing is wrong
my 1 flip pdx drifter did hurt my back a little, but not to much and it's probably worth it to figure out what's messing it up.

also yesterday new trick was spinning ducking legover which I think is pretty sweet.

saturday session. Was tired from the friday session and having played pretty much every day for the past week. Played hard and ended up agrivating the back injury again... oh well

good:
worked on flip and strong inspins and made progress into proper footwork/form. It basically comes down to a super quick flip ingyro as was the case for me learning spin.
flip pixie still getting better
flip atomic was ok
far symple pickup is great training for ps whirl and miraging pickup (Brian's brilliant strange drill)
finally remembered to do jumping squats at the end of the session

bad:
shin splint muscles were giving me no juice at all but at least they are so sore they will probably get strong
shoulder/back hurt

Sunday and Monday I've just been rollerblading in an attempt to let my legs and back heal.

Brutal tuesday in which I did flip whirls, and flip ps whirls all session in an attempt to fix my form while everyone else critiqued.

On flip whirls I don't open up I set and try to close up and do it behind me which is not good
On flip PS whirls I rotate my whole body, not just my hips so the bag goes behind my shoulder and I do a weird back crunch to see it
Doing this over and over again killed my abs on one side of my body so I have really weird soarness today...

It did make my flip whirls much better and strong barraging/whirling sets better

OK saturday. I hadn't played since tuesday so I was much stronger/fresher then usual. Back is almost 100% better I think. Didn't hit any long strings or anything but...

johniwalkers were coming up well even after a ripwalk
ripped warriors were coming up
flip barraging is so close
flip whirling was good
strong whirling was very good
flip whirl was much better since tuesday
both ps whirls were much better
some nice flails
some much better spinning whirls (because of all the whirl practice)
some nice flip blenders
a nice double spin/my footwork is getting more consistent for it. I have been drilling it real lightly because of my back but that's almost over I think.

So yeah, strings were bad but lots of strength tricks were much better. Also did jumping squats to end it which kills my legs, but I'm getting better at them/they are great for footbag.

back still hurts. All of stanford's backs hurt somehow.

johniwalkers felt great
whirling felt pretty good and I had some both sides
ps whirl felt great
flip motion is a first!
a couple double spins (but apparantly wrong footing :( )
spinning whirl bsos with both good form
pixie ss double down (maybe new?)
my flip double dexes all felt great, I'm so happy these are finally getting there.

then I did a ridiculous plyometrics work out and my legs are super tired/sore today

legs still sore but good thursday session.

lots of double downs both legs
blur > motion (toe motion is hard for me)
first 17 or so shred 30 tricks again I really need to plan out the last 15 or so. At 17 it's all unique with no bops so I'm hoping I can do an easy last 15 and still keep it pretty unique.
johniwalkers both sides I drilled flip hard today and it got better
a couple double spins again, I think I just have to do these each session
whales tail easy, it should always be easy but it hardly ever is

Back feels like it's finely getting better but now this weird upper upper inner shin thing is bothering me. Hopefully I just pulled something small and it will go away in a couple days.

played saturday and sunday. No pain really so I think I'm done with injuries for now :)

Nothing to exciting I did a huge leg workout sunday before playing so I was tired. Barraging is looking good and so are both side double downs. Main thing I'm working on is Brian's challenge of...

No bops, no bop components (no ducking butter, spinning osis, etc), at least 1 downtime dex a trick

This is really hard for me to do.

Interesting thursday session, I couldn't get my form good but I felt very strong.

A super easy and clean matador > infinity rpt.
a double spin. I really can't get the footwork down for this.
Did a bunch of form work on gyro clipper rpt. I've always had bad style with that move and I improved it a lot with brians help. A lot of my problem is I want to turn my shoulders and hips together but often you need to twist and move one without the other.
barfly * 4 (good because my flip is so bad :) )
pdx flail > far symp whirl > ps whirl (yeah feeling strong)
legbeater > ripwalk > blur rpt. first try easy. I would really like to just be able to do that forever. Depending on things it could replace the begining of my shred 30? Then I could do pdx mirage > symp mirage > whirl later on for my back half.

Going to Davis on Saturday so no footbag :( . It is exciting as I might be going there for grad school though :)

Damn, I didn't realize you were so close. I'm not really sure what my schedule is like on Saturday, I'm getting there early in the morning and then busy until at least 5:30 but if you wanted to have a short session sometime after that I could stop by your area on the way back.

Also, yeah at this point it's pretty much between davis and santa cruz. I like both areas so that's nice :)

Yeah, I'm just a bit North of Davis, the next city on 113. I've ridden my bike there a few times. Of course when you come up here, I'm going down there. I was planning on making a Stanford session on Saturday. Santa Cruz is dope! Hope Davis works out for ya though
