Make sure you have your Mirages down
1. Set the bag straight about belly heigth
2. Keep your setting leg in the air and make a little hop with your support leg towards the bag. e.g. you set with the right leg then you hop with the left leg to the right. (hope this is clear ) The hop is crucial and creates the room for the dex
3. Jump hard of your support leg so it passes over the bag
4. Land and catch the bag on your setting leg
Learn this trick on both sides and also from clipper and same side.
Symp. Mirage is a great trick to draw breath in a run.

yeah, I don't think that those tips even helped for what was asked here.
So you don't want your Symp Mirage to be "rakey" and you want to Pixie out of it?
Ok so you need to
- set straight up
- hop off the dexing foot so that you rise your knee to dex
- if you wander, it means that your set is not straight
Doing the dex by rising your knee is important to keep the control.

I had just one of those "CLICK!" moments with this trick. I've hit it both sides before, but never very well and I could never link it with other moves. Here is what made it happen for me.
I was watching Tricks of The Trade 1. Kenny's first tip for the move was something I hadn't heard before, I gave it a shot. Set the bag slightly to the side that you dex on. So if you're setting from right toe set to the left. For me I had to set it a little farther to the side than I felt like I needed to. You have to jump to the side a little bit to get back to the bag but OH MAN! It made all the difference in the world!
Pretty soon I was linking this move with tons of other shit. It took way less effort. What felt best for me was setting it about knee height, 6 inches (15cm) to the outside of my knee that would do the dex. Then bang, just set, hop to the side and the bag is right there!
Give it a shot!

Symp mirage is a very easy move to hit ugly. If you want to hit it well I'd suggest definitely high knee lift. Your shin should stay perpendicular to the ground and your knee should make a right angle. The dex should be as high as possible (on your leg). Also make sure you stay facing the same direction when you start and finish the move. Although it's definitely possible to hit an easier symp mirage than this (and I often get lazy and hit bad symp mirages), they look way way better when hit like this and I'd also say that it's impossible to hit a clean symp dlo if you don't use this technique for symp mirages. (clean as in not jay which it usually is if you don't lift the first dexing leg high enough and not slurry if you turn while doing it).
If you think of it as a tuck jump on one leg - ie. your head stays in the same position (you don't push yourself up into the air) then I think it takes less effort, looks better and is cleaner.

Symposium Mirage or rake? ... some clarification?
I think that i am doing a rake in these two videos (Yeah ones sideways... sorry guys) I am meaning to do a Symposium Mirage... i think i need to life my knee more.
Anyways the first one is just a few of the trick, and the second(once again sorry for the sideways) is a few tricks then the contested symposium mirage or rake.
Can someone give me some clarification?

Merged with Symposium Mirage thread. Good topic, but doesn't really need it's own thread. Might detract from Symp Mirage thread -Erik

the thing about symp mirage and rake is that they are like interchangeable unclean versions of each other if they get too sloppy, so the best way to combat this is do symp mirages that really look like symp mirages and rakes that really look like rakes.
just watched the first video. see how you're turning as you're repeating the move? Try not to turn as much, definitely lift more, and try this:
say you're setting from right toe.
1. set from the right toe slightly left of the left leg, so it peaks just to the left of your body at about your rib cage. You are already doing this part.
2. as the bag is rising, your body will be coming back down from the set, at which time you want to make sure all your weight is on your left leg (dexing leg) and you are leaning slightly to the left. I believe that you are already doing this part, but you may want to exaggerate the lean just a little bit more to the left because the next step is to...
3. resolve the aforementioned lean by doing the symp mirage with your knee rising quickly while your upper body does little to no rise. you need to get your knee over the bag, not your whole body, and it can save you a lot of energy and motion if you keep this in mind.
If you are leaning, you will naturally dex in that direction, and that will help you focus more on getting a nice hop and a clean dex with little spin. makes it look much cleaner.
4. It will look less rakey if there is not so much forward follow-through after your foot catches the bag.
Good luck. I'll be in town next weekend if you want to play some bag.
