Double ATW (DATW)
Moderator: Muffinman
Having a pixie set would help for datw inout but i never think datw as a pixies set. You set straight then start dexing. twice. not fast but controlled.
It probably helps to do the motion heaps without that bag and the 2 dexes should be tight and not so big. Watch vasek do a datw it looks just about as easy as anything he does.

yeah I think I've got fairly good pixie sets on both sides and I find out to in much easier on both sides. I pretty much never hit it in to out, although I do hit terrage and double pickup occasionally and I did learn it in to out first. I remember a long time ago somebody posted saying that out to in is physically easier for your body because of something to do with your hip joints. I can't remember the details though.

Yeah toes up for sure. Actually I try to keep my toes up for all toe moves - ie for pixie and fairy sets too. I find if I point my toes while doing pixie or fairy sets there is a much higher chance of doing thin or the dexes and I expend more energy - toes up is definitely more efficient for those sets and makes certain that the dexes are clean.

Double ATW
I'm having a little problem doing the double around the world stalls. Is there any type of excerise or move that would help me build up to doing one? Or do I just have to keep drilling? Also, about how long does it usually take to learn the move?

The secret to this trick is making your dexes as small as you can without hitting the bag. Also it helps to always keep your toes pointed up and to do a small hop off the supporting leg as set the bag (so you can get a bit more height without moving your dexing foot up as much). Before doing doubleATW try to hit 10ATW's in a row, this helps with coordination and balance. Then try the movement without a bag, make sure that you set first then start dexing quickly afterwards. It helps doing both dexes at the same speed, you might want to think of two quick "beats" in your head that correspond to a dex each, I found this to help getting the move quicker. Also don't set too high, thigh height should be the maximum.
it seemed impossible at first, but took me about 5 months to hit DATW after the first time I thought of doing it. With the right technique you could probably have DATW hit in a few weeks. Have a look at:

It took me a while to hit DATW also.
To learn it I did a drill where I took a 2 liter soda bottle, and filled it with water, and taped the cap back on. Then every time when I was warming up I would put the bottle on the ground and circle it 50 times both ways, with both legs. Try circling it as many times as quickly as you can with out hitting it or putting your foot on the floor.
After like 2 weeks (maybe more or less, I forget...) I had a significant difference in both dexing speed and accuracy. DATW is more about good clean dexes then just whipping your leg around as fast as you can.

Kyle,
I'm not really getting a visual as to what you are saying? slaming the dexing foot on the ground before doing the atw? is that what you mean?

i dont really think of datw as one motion.
its more like a pixie atw, or fairy, since going the opposite way feels completely different. but they need to look smooth. no hesitations between dexes.
it helped me to atw>op direction atw>rpt til drop.
also, i set, then point my toes down. not up.
make sure youre moving your knee, not your leg for the dexes.
dont hurt yourself trying to nail it.this trick comes with time.
