Yoga

Post by TwistedTorque » 13 Mar 2005 00:12

I'm a big fan of Yoga (as well as a teacher's assistant) so I thought I would throw out some fundamental crucial info and see what everybody has to say. This is all Ashtanga Yoga.

Sun Salutation A
Sun Salutation B

If you do these once a day, you will feel a great increase in energy, flexibility, mindfulness, concentration, and strength. Takes 10 minutes, changes everything. :D

If you want to know more...

Namaste - “I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light, and of Peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, We are One. “

hey man, i'm glad you're posting this stuff here. I've been doing some of the five tibetans, plus a little b.k.s. iyengar yoga and hindu pushups, and i seem to have been doing most of the sun salutation poses, but not in any unified progression. i'm going to try that out for sure. you should really post about any postures you find particularly useful for footbag muscles, 'cause i'd love to know what you do.

i do the sun alutation A every day and try to do sun salutation b as much as possible and it really helps out my legs. My legs will usually be demolished after our weekly shred meetings and if I do these that same night and the next morning, i am ready for shred that next day believe it or not. Yoga is an amazing practice both physically and spiritually and i am definitely glad i have friends that have guided me towards yoga.it gives me a feeling of "bring the day on" and i've noticed helps aid in my attentiveness which i normally lack. Yoga is a good thing and you all should check it out.

Wow, I tried it, and I did feel better afterwords. Although I don't think I did it correct, as I'm not sure how all of the breathing/transitions work.

yeah, i'm having a little trouble with it too actually, the transition from uttanasana to chaturanga dandasana is the hardest for me, because i can't actually touch the ground in that position, so i feel out of balance, then when i go to shoot my legs back, i can't lower myself into chaturanga dandasana in a slow push-uppy way (which is how i usually do it in hindu-pushups which go from adho mukha svanasana to chaturanga dandasana slowly...). any hints for the transition points there?

as for breathing, everytime you make a motion up, breathe in. Everytime you make a motion down, breath out. You will execute a different move for every breath that you take with the exception to downward dog. Here you hold this position for five exhalations and then right aafter the fifth exhalation when you breath in, jump forward to your hands. and continue with inhalations for upward motions and exhalations for downward motions

anyone keeping up with their yoga?

I know I've been slacking a little lately. Hopefully this keeps the motivation alive.
