Guys, no arguing over who you thinks sucks or is good in this topic. POST REVIEWS OF SHOWS. Notes about shows you are planning to see is fine, but no whining about shows you can't go see or missed, that's a waste.

Opener, never heard of these guys before. A 5 piece with 3 guitars. The main shred fiend in the band had a polyester Elvis type suit on with his chest hair sticking out and huge Rick Moranis "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" glasses. More like "Honey I shredded the shit out of everyone with my ax". This guy could rip. Vocals weren't anything special but this band definitely had riffs, and the one goofball guy shred pretty damn well. I'll have to go see them again.
Red Fang Portland, OR
Never heard of these guys easier. Pretty standard hard rock band. Pretty good. Wasn't overly impressed, but didn't dislike them either. Would catch another show.
Lions Austin, TX
Probably 10th or 11th show I've been to of these guys. Saw of their first shows ever when they opened for the Atomic Bitchwax back fall of 05. These guys bring the stoner rock fuzz sound and when I say bring it, they fucking BRING IT. Think of the Stooges, MC5, Fu Manchu, Kyuss all washed down with a pitcher of Lone Star Beer and projectile puked back up in your face. Best band in Austin right now, IMO. They've been touring a lot, so it was great to finally see them again, it had been a while. The show ripped, they haven't lost their edge one bit.
Setlist:
-New Song?
-New Song?
-Heavy Metal Lady (allegedly this song was selected for Guitar Hero III)
-All Hail (new song)
-Movement (a stoner rock epic, up there with Spine of God, IMO. Clicky for MP3)
-Come Around
-Guns
-Instrumental... Highway Star (Deep Purple cover)
Anyway... LIONS... highly recommended. If they come to your town, definitely worth checking them out.

i can see how a crowd not expecting the breed of music msi brings to the table can not be feeling the show. other than that show i cant wait for ozzfest, thats going to be one hell of a night, ozzy, lamb of god, static x, and hatebreed... cant get much better than that... i know theres more bands on it, but i dont feel like listing them all. oh yeah... and its free!

I saw Blackstone Cherry, Breaking Benjamin, and a few other smaller bands in concert last weekend. Sadly, Buckcherry and Finger 11 were there, bands i cant really stand.
But Blackstone Cherry is AMAZING, so good. No one really listens to them much, but they are my favorite band. Every song is so good, none of them are made for radio, which is awesome.
In contrast, Breaking Benjamin is pretty much a radio band. All the songs are made to appeal to everyone, but i actually enjoyed their performance. Really good stage presence and the vocals were spot on, as were the other parts of the band.
Overall a really good show. Mud wrestling also.

I definitely want to go. Even though Sat and Sun have the most bands I'm most excited about the friday line-up: Sonic Youth, GZA, and Slint . I saw Slint at the Metro maybe 2 years ago and it was a great show. Anyone into post-rock music should try and see them if they get the chance. I actually used to work with Brian McMahan (he did the vocals and guitar for Slint) doing home theater and audio installations for a couple years. We were working together one time and accidentally mismeasured and drilled one and a half inch hole through a customer's new hardwood kitchen floor. Whoops .Frank_Sinatra wrote:Anybody going to Pitchfork?
Ok, that was a fun tangent, getting back on track: I will probably buy a three-day pass. If you're going too, I'm sure we'll find some luscious hack circles there to crash between the bands we want to see. Beside Slint, I'm looking forward to seeing Sonic Youth, Clipse, Mastodon, Iron and Wine, Girl Talk, New Pornographers, De La Soul, Klaxons, and Menomona. Who did you want to see there?
Oh, on Sunday, The Ponys are playing. I've never heard of them, but if they're selling shirts I'm definitely picking one up for Tom

New Pornographers, GZA, De La Soul, Iron & Wine, Sonic Youth, Professor Murder, Stephen Malkmus, The Cool Kids, Cadence Weapon, maybe the Sea and Cake so I can heckle Archer Prewitt for his god-awful comic strip. The Actual Sized E wrote:Who did you want to see there?
Maybe I'll even burn Sof Boy in effigy, if we're allowed to bring in outside effigies.
The Ponys are playing with Superchunk on the 20th, so I'll let you know if they have t-shirts (If I go, that is).The Actual Sized E wrote:Oh, on Sunday, The Ponys are playing. I've never heard of them, but if they're selling shirts I'm definitely picking one up for Tom
And July 13 is my birthday, so I guess this is what I'm doing for my birthday. Oh yeah. Duff Man is thrusting in the direction of my birthday.

Hmm this is a hard decision you have to make. Slayer show will own no doubt, but on the other hand Gwar will deliver a show like no other, tough call man, considering it could also be your last chance to see either of those bands.Disturbedboy365 wrote:i might possibly go to the slayer and manson tour, or the sounds of the underground with gwar, shaddows fall, chimaira, and a bunch of other bands. i'm just undecided on which one because i've got a fairly limited amount of money for the summer.
