Please Challenge Me (Eskimo Joe)

Post by Eskimo Joe » 17 Jul 2007 12:23

Hello all, I finally decided I need a challege topic.

I am stuck at my level and would love to progress.

Things I can hit bs:
almost all 2 adds, atw, legover, pickup, mirage, illusion, clipper, butter, osis, symp legover, pdx mirage.

I can do no sets yet

Normal session includes 10X everything up there BS and then fucking around trying to go as long as I can.

Things I have almost hit:
DATW (attempted strong only in to out)
DLO (attempted strong only)
whirl

Things I have hit, not very clean or smooth:
drifter, strong side
bubba

I am stuck here. Please challenge me to things that will help me progress.

If it helps any, here are some warm up drills I do:

pickup>opp pickup X 10
legover>opp legover X 10
pickup > illusion (aiming for X 10, but usually get around 6 contacts)
legover>mirage>rpt (usually 10-20 contacts)
all the moves above X 10 BS
butter>pdx mirage>opp butter>pdx mirage (have yet to get past 4 contacts)

PLEASE HELP ME!!

 Butterfly > near Mirage > Legover > RPT
 Butterfly > near Pickup > Illusion > RPT
 Butterfly > Far Legover > SS Mirage > RPT

Those are good warm up drills, so once you hit them, try to get more than 1 repeat. Also, the near mirages and far legovers will help you eventually learn DLOs. For DLO the key is doing symple (fake-symposium) legovers, so drill those if you aren't already.

 Symple Legover > SS Symple Legover (symple ATW?) > RPT

How are your infinties?
 Butterfly > Infinity > Infinity

That will get you started. Once you master that, try hit 10 infinities. Here are some other butterfly drills. You'll be BOPpin' around in no time :) try these:

 Butterfly > Osis > Mirage > RPT
 Butterfly > SS Butterfly > Pickup > RPT

Don't worry too much about sets. For newer people sets are just ADD hunting until they get the basics down. I'm not going to give you any set challenges because you shouldn't be worried about them at this point. 20 tiltless consistently is way more important.

 Tri-force drill, 4th level.

Which means basically:

 right clip > left clip > right clip x 2 > left clip x 2 > right clip x 3 > left clip x 3 etc... level 4 would be one more iteration of that drill 20 contacts total. Once you finish level 4, try to get to level 5, then all the way up until have the whole Tri-force, rescue Zelda and all that shiz.

That will make your clippers much stronger and you will be able to start ducking and spinning out of them.

Also, for learning DATW I would recommend building and using a dexerciser. See my topic on it HERE

Good luck my man. I am your age too (25 right?) and I didn't start freestyling seriously until I was 24. So don't get discouraged by all the kiddies who are 6-10 years younger than you and already rippin'. You can still pick this sport up in your mid 20s and get good if you stay positive and work hard at it.

So have been doing my usual, and tried out a few of the challenges.

Have got like 25+ contact run
20 legover>legover rpt, pickup>pu rpt
15 ss clipper bs
8 infinity
4 osii bsos
clip>duck clip (start strong)
butter>near mirage>legover>rpt 8 contacts
symple lo>symple lo
tri force drill up to 3rd level
Xbody rake bs

Getting there, feeling better.

Later all will post when more challenges are hit and when I get higher contacts.

Good day Modified.

I am hoping to get some challenges to help me mix it up a little and keep me from getting tired of the same tricks.

I have hit all the challenges in the thread except symple lo>ss symp lo

I am able to make about 30-50 + contacts of low adds and am working on linking other moves.

Please hit me up with challenges!

Currently working on flip swirl, making drifter consistent bs, and really working flip whirls.

I am able to hit pixie, fairy, stepping bs. Can sort of do nuclear (not atomic) if I pretend it is a really fast pdx illusion, but my balance is off.

Thank you!

Challenge: make a video of a typical session for you. That'll make it easier for us to give you good challenges, since right now I don't have a good benchmark to estimate your level.
