Ugh, since this topic I've slowly been getting a craving for playing an rpg. This is not good though because they suck 70+ hours of your life away before you know it. Final Fantasy XI would've been the best rpg I'd ever played had it not been for it's slow, tedius level up system. When I quit, I had a level 30 Red Mage and I was well over 100 hours into the game. I was going to begin a support job class as a summoner, which would've sucked another 100 hours or so out of me.
The game itself was astounding though, with gorgeous visuals. I miss playing it really. But I don't miss hunting a hundred giant dragonflies for hours in order to gain a level, or a thousand to get some key item that was crucial to my character's development. I seriously recommend giving it a try though, because the first month is free.
As much as I dog it for the level-up process, the game is really awesome. The world feels so alive. For instance right now all of the cities would be decorated with Holiday decorations, and lights all over. And you can buy fireworks and set them off, they look really cool. The whole culture of learning trades like black/goldsmithing, alchemy, mining the different colors/rarities of crystals, and just buying and selling goods makes it an amazingly realistic in-game economy. The fighting and gameplay rock, you can learn so many cool spells and attacks. I miss it...
