The question is, is it viable for getting around town? I checked around the site a little bit, and didn't see anything as far as that.. I imagine it could be with a small set of tools...

Remove the center wheel, you have a longboard (apparently.). But I dunno if it would be that viable... Neat idea, without a doubt.
