'Standing room only' school
It's an entirely new definition of "Standing Room Only." Or perhaps a new measure of "equality" has arrived.
Whatever it is, it has sparked a huge political debate at a school in Kristiansand, Norway, according to the Norwegian paper Fædrelandsvennen.
The trigger for the explosion of opinion? A decision in the local district that schoolboys must sit on toilet seats when urinating, not stand.
According to the news report, the rule was announced for boys at Dvergsnes School, prompting outrage from Vidar Kleppe, the chief of The Democrats Party.
He's accusing the school of "fiddling with God's work," and now he wants the issue discussed at the executive committee level of the area council, according to the newspaper "Dagbladet."
"When boys are not allowed to pee in the natural way, the way boys have done for generations, it is meddling with God's work," Kleppe, whose group is a splinter group of former Progress Party hardliners, said in the newspaper.
"It is a human right not to have to sit down like a girl," he said.
On Kleppe's contentious "stand" on making political waves, no comment was the response from school principal Lise Gjul.
But she did tell Norwegian Broadcasting NRK that the restrooms are used by both boys and girls, and the young boys are not "good enough at aiming" in order to have "a pleasant toilet."

wow there are some fucked up things being said in this thread.
how are they going to enforce that? are they going to look throught the bottoms of the stalls to make sure your feet are pointed toward the door?
and there is a reason girls dont piss standing up, josh. we dont have wee wees to aim.
this is a weird topic. im a janitor at my college and ive found that men dont know how to flush toilets. i guess since their used to standing up more often than sitting down they kind of forget that they just took a dump and walk out. but that doesnt explain the piss on the floor around the urinals.
there was a debate going on when i was in elementary school about how teachers dont let kids leave class to use the restroom. that it has to be an "emergency" and still the teachers would tell the kids to wait. i had a mean kindergarten teacher that would only let us go on the breaks she provided and one time i really had to go and she wouldnt let me so i pissed all over myself and the floor. how are kids supposed to be able to control their bladder? much more how are kids supposed to be forced to pee uncomfortably? and if pee on the toilet seats is the reason, then why dont they just clean the bathrooms more?

Class rooms could have a bathroom sign out sheet, which must be filled out with the time and name of the person. If someone reports a messy toliet seat, then they can track back the person. Then again, there must be more than 1 bathroom in the school. As long as the boys don't miss, they are fine.pips wrote:And HOW are they going to enforce this?
What if someone reports it at the end of the day? Are they gonna test the urine and see how long ago it was peed out to track the kid down? I really don't see this as a that bad of a problem, especially for boys who only sit on the seat to take a dump. If I feel that the seat isn't clean or see that it isn't, I use the next stall, cover it up with toilet paper, or stand up some. It's not that much of a problem. And yeah, if the reason they are doing this is because there is pee on the seat, clean the fricken bathroom everyday. This is probably just some girl principal on a power trip.
And just so you know, this is like a serious but not response. I'm not really freaking out over this.

Surely, anyone who's been to a music festival will know what (public) toilets can get like... Piss all over the seats, the floor and goodness knows where else.
The simple truth is, although guys have the ability to 'aim' their shots... sometimes there's a missfire or a split stream... heck, sometimes you're just too drunk to piss straight (although I'm hoping this isn't the case at school).
Sure, us guys have more ability to aim their shots, but sometimes we miss. And then there are the filthy mongrels who just are too lazy to lift the seat and figure that they'll never need to take a crap anyway, so who cares about the next guy who does.

Jorden knows me way too well...
I have experience being in boys bathrooms when the girls room was closed/being cleaned/when the line was too long. The boys bathroom is always way worse than the girls. This is one of the perks to being a girl at a footbag event. Our bathrooms are always empty and much cleaner.
I had a female friend who lived with two men. She said she'd clean the bathroom when it was her turn but she would never clean the toilet or floor around it since she wasn't the one getting urine all over. I think that's fair.
The solution to the situation in the article seems pretty obvious, the school (or the parents) needs to teach the boys that part of being in a shared bathroom means learning to always lift the seats and put them back down. It won't prevent urine getting on the outside of the toilet or the floor, but it will prevent the little girls from having to sit in someone else's urine.

Oops...I didn't read that the bathrooms were shared. I might have to take back a little of what I said.
I still don't think the boys should be forced to sit, but they should atleast be forced to lift the seat if girls are sharing the same toilets. How are young boys going to learn to properly go to the bathroom outside of school if they are forced to not even practice it?
Nah. From cleaning the bathrooms at work, I've noticed that girls' bathrooms have more excess soap on the sink, but guys' are worse overall.I dont have experience but ive heard that girls restrooms were always waay nastier than guys rooms anyways.

Errr....maybe that's because there are barely ANY girls at footbag events? lol If it were messy, we'd know it'd be one of three or four women haha.Moxie wrote:This is one of the perks to being a girl at a footbag event. Our bathrooms are always empty and much cleaner.
I've always heard women say that their bathrooms were disgusting.
