Free 411 in the USA

Post by Moxie » 27 Aug 2007 12:27

I use 1-888-FREE-411 to reach information. You have to listen to a (short) initial ad when it first picks up, then you give the city, state, and business name, then you listen to another very short ad, then it gives you the number. I think it can find residential phone numbers too, but I've never tried.

Yes, it takes about 45 seconds longer than regular 411, but it's totally worth it.

Edited the title, should have said it's for the USA only as far as I'm aware. Sorry Canada.

Of course 1223 is free with no advertising. This is because Australia has a communist government, while the US is the land of the free.

1-800-GOOG-411

Free, no ads, no nothing. Just dial it up, say what City and State (or key in the zip code, whichever your prefer) and then state the business name or category. It's free 411 from Google, enjoy.

Oh, and yes. The 411 lingo did come from 411 directory assistance. Because of it's popularity, many people made 411 synonymous to information, because 411 was Directory Assistance, or "Information" when it first came out. Now it's just called 411.

And as an update on that, you can send a text to "Google" (466453) with a city, state, and name of a business and you'll get a text message back immediately with the name, full address and phone number of the business.

It'll also help correct for spelling mistakes by asking, "Did you mean ____?" then giving you the info for what it thinks you meant.

It's free but you'll get charged for using the two texts (one incoming, one outgoing).

Wow that's awesome. I think I get 3 free from my cell per month, but it jumps to like 75 cents per call after that. Thanks for the uh...411.

Google 411 is awesome.

Voice promoted. City, Province/State, Business Name or Category then auto connected to the number you want. I use it to make long distance calls to businesses out of town.

Works in Canada and the USA. Free call from a land line, not sure about cells (I assume it uses local minutes but 1800 numbers might be free depending on your plan).
