100 Pushups

Post by professor » 07 Sep 2008 10:02

I've started a program to be able to do 100 consecutive pushups. I think it would be good for some of us footbaggers who aren't all that strong up top . Pushups strengthen your arms, chest, shoulders, and abs.

It's only 3 days a week and it takes only about 10 minutes to do each day. I figure people can add it to their footbag session time. I'm on Week 3 right now, doing the highest pushup column.

Anyone else gonna do this with me? Post your progress!

Sounds cool, I'm in. I already do push ups every day but having some kind of goal and training regime would be good.

Last time I tried to do as many as I could in one go was a few years ago when Dylan Fry was down here, and we were drunk on a ferry between Tasmania and the mainland. I got to 80 something then (aiming for 100), but I think I can do more now.

After every solo session I do a little workout that includes push ups, sit ups and dumbbells. I'm more into less repetition-more weight, so the 100 consecutive push up challenge isn't for me.

I've been doing it for about three months now and getting great results, I think it compliments the workout I get naturally from playing footbag. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one doing it :)

i do 30 push ups every time i feel like i've overindulged with eating. sometimes i just do it anyways out of habit. 40 is my limit. when i started doing these push ups, my goal was to get to 100, but now i'm pretty content. however, depending on the schedule for this, i might give it a shot.

Im in, I think I did 56 or so back when I was 16.

P.S.- I would be thrilled to get to 100. I love seeing results.

I see myself struggling at level 5 and pretty much dying at level 6

I may have to repeat level 5.

Yeah, I did 50 for a physical fitness test back in HS.Form was getting poor at about 35. Arms were trembling after 40. Entire body was shaking for the last 5.

If I had known I was expected to beat that at the end of the semester I would have stopped at 40.

So, I'm on the first week of this. I will not tell you what I max out at. But I will tell you that I am a weakling. A sore weakling.

100 push-ups doesn't significantly increase strength or size. Doing 100 consecutive push-ups does however, train endurance if that's your goal.

Guess it's cool to be able to boast you can do 100 push ups though.

ok - I work for Active Network and we have a corporate wellness program on steroids here.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we perform circuit drills for 40 minutes. The workout changes each time and we do not know what we are doing each time.

Here is a sample workout:

4 Rounds of:

- 100 pushups
- Run 800 meters
- 100 lunges
- Run 800 meters
- 100 Ab Throw Downs (inverted crunches)
- Run 800 meters
- 100 double under jump rope.

So you end up ding 400 of each in 40 minutes. It is tough and I am getting so buff from it.

Keep it up! I am!
Go out and shred already.

Hey guys, how do you do pushups? Do you go slow and take your time for every single pushup, or do you keep a fast pace?

I think you're saying "100 push-ups doesn't do you much more good than (say) smaller numbers of push-ups". Am I reading you correctly? If yes, I'd agree. I think that a few sets of 20-25 reps, combined with other body weight exercises is a good way to build strength and tone up etc.

or, are you contending that push-ups in general don't increase strength or size? (which I wouldn't agree with)

I've started this program too, but its early days yet :)

Gregor, as long as you're managing good-form pushups speed isn't really important. But personally, the slower I go, the more I feel my muscles working, so maybe its just a matter of preference

Just started yesterday. My initial was 15 good-form push ups. We'll see where this goes!

Good form pushups could be anything. There are so many different kinds of pushups. Arm/hand, leg, and elbow positionning (amoung other things) can change so much. Also, if you want to skool pushups, it's probably a good idea to do at least an equal amount of work on your oposing muscles. Wide grip chin ups and inverted crunches come to mind... with all that work on chest and abbs, you can run into trouble if you're not working your back (upper and lower) aswell.

Just some thoughts. Go for it, guys!

I personally consider good-form push ups to be hands placed shoulder width, back straight and not drooping, with feet together. It's all personal opinion and preference in the end though.

I have to use my knuckles for push ups due to my 5 years and counting injury to my left wrist. Definitely makes things more difficult heh. :x
