What makes you sad?

Post by Jeremy » 07 Oct 2008 22:56

Since we have a happy topic, I felt the need for a sad topic.

Things that make me sad;

Being at work at 5:53 reading through 90 unread emails.

When your boss is away and creates an automatic vacation email, but you still have to send them multiple emails every day.

Waking up 30 minutes too late, still tired.

Knowing there's a shitty day of school ahead.

sitting in front of a text book feeling like there's a brick wall between my mind and the material.

I try not to be genuinely sad about very many things. my blessings far outweigh my burden in this life, and whenever I start thinking about what's going bad for me, I'm overwhelmed with thoughts of what is good for me.

Rainy days - My car doesn't like to work on rainy days.
My car not working and me not being able to go to the places I need to go to with ease make for a sad Kamil.

being cursed with the ability to make money in a career that bores me/depresses me, while also being cursed with strong belief that wife staying home with kids is most valuable, therefore being tied to the money and locked into it

Currently, I'm a little disheartened that I have to run a cable from upstairs to downstairs just to kill some punks in GTA online. :(

Car alarms.

If it doesn't get turned off within 30 minutes I'm going to go over to it with a cricket bat and make it stop.

That little bit of soda that you can't quite get out of the can. It slushes around... You can hear it and feel it... but you can't ever drink it because of the design of the can and the spout.

Jon you're hilarious :D

James - I don't agree that you can't do anything about it. I think you can do lots of things, of course the impact is always small, but don't think about how far you have to go, think about how much progress you can make.

Anyway the thing that makes me sad/unhappy/annoyed etc. You know how one of the funny responses to jokes about people's mums is "she's dead" etc. I just fucked up really badly thinking somebody was making one of those jokes. I was having a go at him about his Halo skills and he responded by saying; "well my mum has cancer" and I assumed he was joking, but he wasn't. Not cool.

Alright, if we're sharing stories like that, I have an embarassing one that's a little on the lighter side.

I have this monthly meeting with VP of marketing and our top supplier. It's a conference call format, so he and I sit in his office with the speaker phone on. Since they can't see us, we've developed a crude sign language to communicate regarding their ideas.

Recently, he hired a marketing manager. She's really nice and capable. So nice, we even had her and her husband over for dinner etc. Anyhow, she's on these calls now too.

So the supplier is discussing this dog of a promotion that I've turned down repeatedly for months, and so I give the universal "jerking off" motion as my silent response to the marketing VP, totally forgetting that there's this new girl in the office.

Then there was a round of silent "Oh shit, he didn't just make the jerking off motion in front of a woman at work" shocked glances as we all turned bright red. Then it went around the circle again.

Luckily, the girl is cool as hell, and the VP is more like a peer than an executive, so we all laughed it off after the call.

Still, caused me anxiety for days. Literally had trouble sleeping because I couldn't shake the feeling of being so embarassed.

I feel better now. Thanks.
Bob R.
