Here's me at the top of Kangla Pass, in the Himalayas. 5360m altitude or something. People told me I needed hiking boots... they just don't understand the power of Lavers. ...and modding.
I had the soles and interiors replaced before the trek began, since they were crumbling apart. He nailed a new sole on the bottom, which wore off pretty quick, and then the nails started poking through. The interior reinforcements started giving me blisters, so I cut off the heals of both shoes, and the toe of one of them to prevent chaffing. Socks were necessary at this point due to all the snow we had to come through that day. But shit, the Nepalis walk all through the mountains in flip-flops... hiking boots can Eat It!!
