London Bombings
Probably you've heard about this already. At least 6 bombs have exploded in London - reports of many dead.

Apparantly the British Police warned the Israli embassy minutes before the attacks that they may be a target.
This seems to suggest a high likely hood (as if there wasn't one already) that the attacks were perpetrated by Islamic terrorists.
I've been thinking about the consequences a lot. It's obviously just speculation but it's very hard to see what will happen from here. Will the British people want blood? Will the UK react like the US did when they were attacked? Or like Australia after the Bali Bombings? Or like Spain after Madrid? I see those as the three possibilities.
Either more agression in the Middle East or attempts to catch the people directly involved and seperate them from people with their ideology, or to pull out of the Middle East.
I really hope it's the second or third option. I can't see more aggression doing anything except leading to more violence and death. Obviously this is a very tragic event. My cousin is in London right now and I know nothing about their safty. However the UK are fighting a war - this is what happens in wars. Australia has been lucky that we haven't experienced anything like this on our soil yet but the people of Iraq and Afghanistan experience it all the time. Is there any difference between a bomb that goes off target or that is dropped because of faulty intelligence and a planned attack on civillians? In all practical sense the outcome is the same - except the US and the UK have only been attacked once - Iraq and Afghanistan are attacked all the time. You fight a war you have to expect to be attacked eventually.
I'm not saying that I support these kinds of actions - clearly I don't, but I think it was pretty inevitable and I think I've said that before. There will no doubt be more attacks like this on the soil of the "coalition of the willing" unless the war ends. The politicians of the UK, of Australia, of Poland, and of The US (to name some of the countries) surely would have known this when they went to war - but they decided that the war was worth dealing with such attacks.
This is why war is so horrible - because it's always the normal people who suffer - not the ones making the decisions but the ones haveing the decisions made for them.
At this stage I think the UK will continue to support the "war on terror" with more vigour and energy. They may go to war against Iran or Syria. This war is going to last a really long time. It's very hard to see an end in sight.

both. The bombs went off in the middle of the morning rush hour. What better way to hurt the most amount of people then via public trasportation. The crippling of the trasportation was an added bonus. Three million people use the underground a day.peanutbuterboy wrote:Where they aiming at hurting people or just shutting down mass transportation for awhile?

basically yeah...its obvious that terrorists always seek to do as much damage as possible, in as many ways. both in hurting people and destroying representations of technology and progression.Iain wrote:both.
