Obsolesence?

Post by C-Fan » 01 Nov 2004 17:44

How do you all feel about people using combos they hit a long time ago? Personally, I kinda feel like the combos in these Sick 3 comps should be filmed and hit exclusively for the competition. Part of the whole point of these things is so that people can see new footage, so it would be a letdown if they saw me post a new combo, and it was run against a Vandall combo ripped from a video from last year. What do you all think?

I think that footage which has already been seen on the internet should be automatically forbidden. And maybe another stipulation be that the combo has to be something you hit in the last month.

I dunno.... thoughts?

I think using old footy isn't cool. It has to be something your trying to hit NOW, not 2 months ago. Lets see everybody hit some fresh ones and bring your best!

It should definitely be NEW footage. Perhaps a separate comp can be run some time down the road where it will pit old footage against old footage. That's the only way it would be fair. Seriously, if I used a combo from 3 years ago it would be MUCH better than anything I could link today.

Ha, sometimes being a novice has its advantages !

This is going to be my first sick 3 with a plan anyway,
so i only have to worry about my combos quality, and
not about its validity date
I cant wait to see, what the other noobs have in stock !
Ok, i shut up for now and go to practice...

Hmm .. This is an interesting topic ..

Personally, I wouldn't have had a problem with this ...

I mean, the footage may be old .. But the person has still hit that combo, and if anything, most people improve over time, so if the combo is old it's likely not their best work.

Basically, I would say that this shouldn't be a comp of people digging up old footage, but if it's a decision between someone sending in an old video of themself and not sending in a video at all, wouldn't you all rather have the person send in the old video?

ken, are you saying derek can't bust any more? just playing. of course, i think it would be stupid to use old footage, since every one (with the exception of brad k) is only going be busting bigger that they used to. it would be pretty foolish to use old footage.

Heeeeyyyy!!! you make it sound like I'll never bust big again. So my game has taken a slump and my body is old and busted...that doesn't mean that I won't go large again. If they can make viagra then they can make something for me too (I hope).

This was a given for me. I think we should treat this like any other tournament event and film the combos SPECIFICALLY for this "event". That's what I was doing -- players can be judged by their peers by whether they are busting creatively or the same old same old. I say film fresh but do what you want and you will be JUUUUUUUUUDGED accordingly.

No a friend and I just did about 5 tries each then switched. That went on for about 10 minutes. I think I only hit 3 or 4 I was happy with (i.e not ending in a bail). There's one I did but won't submit as it's sub-open standard but that I still find fun it's more of a styly 3 than a sick 3:
fairy (ss) swirl > gyro pickup > symp whirl

That would be intermediate level I take it?

Would probably have a good chance of winning intermediate.

Could maybe go open .. I don't know, hard to say.. Would almost have to see it in order to make judgement.

I would put that combo in the higher end of intermediate, I think. I was confused about my own combo, spinning ducking clipper > peeking osis > blurriest. I wasn't sure if it would be open or intermediate. I'm not competing this time around because I was booted out of my shred spot the one opportunity I had to film before the deadline but I think I will think of a new combo for next time around anyway. There's not enough spinning in sick 3 -- too much frontside fearless.

If it`s all clean, that`s definitely open. spinning ducking is hard, peeking osis is styly, and blurriest out of osis is hard and styly. Open open open.

I`m stoked about this... hopefully I`ll hit some good sick 3s on film at JFC2 and get to compete in this. I`ve never won anything on modified, just been nominated for like every moddy award. I guess I won trivia, but I never got my prize...

oh and Erik: I'd say your combo is open category for the same reasons Ken stated above.
