Mentioning users in posts

If this is not already being done, Is there a way we can implement mentioning someone in a modified.in post when we want someone specific to see what was shared, kind of like the example below?

I agree. This would be a very cool idea.

I would love to do this, but there doesn't seem like there are many plug-n-play options for it I saw mod a while back when I thought about this too, but I think it was abandoned ... I'll investigate more soon.

On a related note, #hashtags are supported ... #allanrocks :)

https://github.com/daroPL/user-mention-mod Yeah, I don't know. A single commit 3 years ago doesn't really get me going. It's a start though, and maybe I'll fork the code and make it better or something ...

edit: words

It seems to have worked :) with the caveat that it seems to choke on user names that have any special characters in them like tylin'%20Eclectic]F[uns]tylin' Eclectic. I'm not sure exactly where it chokes and if Nick actually gets a PM notifying him and it's just the bbcode display that gets fucked up (or what). Perhaps Nick could tell us if he got a couple of PMs from being mentioned at this point? Nick? Where are you Nick?

@shred4life was in on this too, so we'll mention him and see what happens.

Let me know if we see any issues with this. C-Fan and Muffinman would probably be interested in this too.

Edit: Hmmm. It seems to also choke on names with numbers in them :( This code isn't very robust. I'll have to look at it more closely and see if I can fix it.

Allan I didn't get any notification/pm so it's not just the bbcode

I also edited in that mention, did it notify you?

It didn't notify me; it likely only works you first submit a post. I'll see if it might be easy to enable it on edits too.

The regex that's parsing things is pretty shitty. I'm not so hot at regex. I'll see if it can't be improved.

Now that is strange... So apparently it works for special characters, the bbcode is just borked, but it does not work for numbers :?:

Aww, I didn't get any notification for your tag of me, Allan :(
I hope this works though -- great idea!!! This will make Modified so much more interactive! Nobody comments in my blog, but now I can force them to by tagging them :p

Muffinman can you please look in your general board settings and see if the "Notify on a mention in a post:" option is set to "yes?"

Thanks.

I'm still hacking about for a better regex. It might take a while. Not a top priority, obviously :)
