Move name proposal

Post by jon » 07 Dec 2003 22:42

I would like to propose the name for a move even though I no it is usually left to the first person to hit it.

I think alpine nemesis or beta nemesis should be named adversary.

ad·ver·sar·y
n. pl. ad·ver·sar·ies
An opponent; an enemy.
Adversary The Devil; Satan. Often used with the. (lol at the definition often the :p)

I think its perfect for alpine nemesis for a few reasons.
They both begin with A.
Nemesis is an opponent that cannot be beaten or overcome so adversary stay in line with the theme
The ad in adversary is a not so subtley play on footbag adds and this is a big add trick
and like the definition says its often 'the' which this trick would be very prone to be

thoughts?

The only reason i put no was because what you stated, it hasn't been hit. Sounds like a great name and all, but I want to see it first, call it whatever you want, I want to see that ! Then that person can all it adversary and a half if they please.
More C4 please <3

hmm i dont know if i like Adversary that much, its not as cool and emotive as Nemesis... Nemesis evokes all these mad images of a mental or physical struggle against something or whatever, where as Adversary seems to mean much the same thing but sounds less cool

it needs to be a more hardcore name
but i think Alpine Nemesis is cool too by itself

maybe there is some name to do with mountain climbing that would be fitting, cos it sounds like a huge mountain to climb to hit that move, being Alpine etc.
but words like Everest and Kilaminjaro arent really very cool :P

People have mentioned this move several times on this site, but i really doubt anybody realizes how hard this trick is. I havent seen a single furious set reach a height that was duckable, but even if somebody does duck the set, its amazingly difficult to clean a ducking double over dex. how many clean ducking double dexes have you seen? Clean Ids, Leviathans, what have you. Ive seen very few.

Also, the trick proposed is significantly harder than nemesis, yet an adversary is a step below a nemesis. Somebody can have several adversaries, but its rare/impossible to have more than one nemesis. By its definition, a nemesis is much greater than an adversary.

But really, all this is moot, since it hasnt been hit. When you hit it, you can name it whatever you want. You can always suggest your name to whoever hits it, and if he or she likes it, they can adopt it.

I don't think anyone should talk about naming anything unless they are hitting it on command.

huh??? so if i hit a move I am not allowed to name it unless i can hit it once out of like 10 attempts??? or is it 20? or 30?? why not just if you hit it once you can name it?

yeah, I agree (sorry, not with you chris)

Flurricane cannot be hit on command.
nemesis cannot be hit on command.
montage could not be hit "on command" by Eli (im guessing)
genesis cant be hit on command
blistering whirl cant be hit on command by anyone
Gauntlet cannot be hit on command.
Green eggs and ham cannot be hit on command.

tricks that could:
Ahren German's Id

Most super tough tricks in fact, prolly cannot be hit on command, thus the naming of the trick is to document the execution of the trick. If only On command tricks could be named, we would have about 100-200 fewer tricks on our trick lists.

do you think he can hit nemesis on command? Maybe. . .i dunno. On command means to me basically about once every other try, if not more consistently. When I ask for it, I better see it, you know?

Maybe he is that way with montage.

I agree that it shouldn't be named until hit.
However... alpine nemesis could be called: Zeusophobia
which means fear of god or gods.
