Footbag Demo Video by Ianek Regimbald

Post by ianek » 25 Aug 2009 14:34

I made a "footbag demo" video to show to non-footbag people i know.

http://www.footbag.org/gallery/showset/ianek09

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7LASCjsX2Q

The camera was a little too far away, so we don't see the bag so well.

enjoy!

comments are welcome.

I have to agree that music is bad! The video itself is not good for non-footbagers too, in my opinion. Tricks selection and so on is ok but you should play with bigger and brighter bag. Also the background was bad for such a video.

Nice shred Ianek. I really liked the first routine you did with the wrap arounds and such. I have to agree with everyone on the music - too DDR or Rock Band'ish.

Here is what I would recommend for a non-footbagger introduction video.
1) Have some narration or at least some titles in the introduction of the video. "Introducing footbag, by Ianek".
2) Perform the same routine you did in the beginning of this video. Perhaps talk it through describing various stalls and how as you practice you progress to higher levels of plays. Perhaps this too could be narrated over the video.
3) Narrate or using titles suggest that there are some very high level movements and hit your big tricks like you did near the end of this video. Also show them in slow motion.
4) Perhaps near the end of the video show a fairly complex string in slow motion so non-footbag people can appreciate what you are doing.
5) End with credits and "thank you".

The whole video should be short and sweet. Make sure the first 5 seconds grabs the audience. Title screen "Introducing footbag, by Ianek" flash to a big move in slow motion or something like that with music building or the sound of a plane flying overhead.

Peace.

Love the song
The modey solo at around 3:50 and the "My Heart Will Go On"-esque half-note jump right at the 5 minute mark really set the record straight- these (probably very well-groomed) lads mean business!

I hope to god that these musicians are modern day. It breaks my heart to see this shred with some over-the-top emotional music. Such a nice break from hip-hop or glitch-plop.

Taking the rock-anthem back from DDR... one instructional video at a time

I sort of agree on all of the other major points though. The background is too lit. There is not enough contrast on you or back.

I love your game and the tricks at the end

about the music, as i mentioned on the first post, it's a video for PEOPLE I KNOW, and PEOPLE I KNOW knows that i like this type of music.

also, music is not bad, you just don't like it.:D

and i know we don't see the bag so well. Next time i'll film closer and i'll try to find lighter background.

and thanks for the advice Mike, but i don't need to grab the audience, it's a video for people that asked what exactly is footbag, they are already curious about it.

again, it's a video for people i know that ask about footbag. so i did a video of what it looks like when i play in the park, with the kind of music i listen to when i play in the park. :D
But we don't see the bag well enough. :(

As a polite sugestion from a very polite moderator, I will remove this post (that was offensive to some people) and I´ll just say:

Ianek

I like the video.

I didn't like the music combined to the video.

That's all.

I know it's easy to take musical criticism to heart, but music can be good by itself and not good for the video. I think that people's opinion on video music is very valid and shouldn't be taken as a personal assault on the video maker's musical taste, as I am sure is not in this case.

Ianek,

I missed the part in your first post that stated this video would be shared with people you know. I thought it was an introduction to footbag video for all non-footbag people when I posted my first reply. In that case, the format of the video makes more sense to me. I also have quite a few footbag videos of myself in my basement or at a tennis court that would be great for friends but might not connect with other non-footbag players. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

Peace.

Hey ianek, I think it's a cool vid, nice job!

lineman - not cool to share PM's without asking the sender. You can obviously do what you want, it is just not cool in my opinion. That's all I'll say about that.

obviously he wanted it private, or he wouldnt have made it a PM... so directly contradicting what he obviously wanted is pretty rude.

ianek, i liked the video alot. i personally enjoyed the music, and i thought you looked very jorden-esque at the beginning of he video, what with the hat, the over-zealous kicks, and the innocent little shrugs =]

however, obviously, i do prefer your intense shred videos much more... but thats understandable i think =]

thanks!

Ianik! sweet video!

I don't have any criticism that hasn't already been said (brighter bag and stuff.) From my perspective it was a pretty good video though. I just enjoy your style.

"lineman" you're just a cool guy, I wish there were more people like you on this forum.

Hack on Ianik! Hope to see you in Chicago.

I liked the 2nd half of the video

the first half was a slow start, to try to get people to understand more simple tricks if I understand correctly, but the music was too intense already, maybe a similar music type with a more "quiet" intro would have fit more?

Nice to show your friends

Nice. I like the progression from kicks to stalls to tiltless and on. And then single hard moves so they can digest it. That's how I like to show people footbag.
That flurry was really sweet too. And that eclipse from flyer nice and unexpected.
