I think it's just that the muscles in your hips/legs aren't strong enough yet to set the bag. Don't worry, just keep practicing and those muscles will build up.
Then you'll be doing inside stalls all day.

A good tip would be to make sure you are catching/setting the bag by lowering/raising your knee. Don't twist your leg to set.

Amateurs practice until they can get it right.
Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

yeah, definitely focus on your knee, by bending your knee you'll put much more energy into the set and you'll be able to get the set to a high enough level that will enable you to set up and alternate feet.

Try to set high, and as soon as you finish the set, focus on planting your setting foot ASAP.

Yup. I remember how it felt to do the inside stalls when I started. It's just about your muscles and flexibility, and it doesn't take more than a couple of weeks to get the inside stalls down.

(Pretty sure you can do them consistent by now.)

I remember how it felt too and it took a heck of a lot longer than a couple weeks to bend my ankles that way. Im a slow learner though :)
