Euros 2009 Strzelin, Poland

Post by Ners » 09 Feb 2009 13:11

Hello everyone,

During the discussion phase concerning this year's Euros, the European Footbag Committee received a bid from Strzelin, Poland. The bid has already been processed, and I'm very glad to announce, that this year European Footbag Championships are going to be held in Strzelin.

Dates: 26-28th June

What you should know about Strzelin:
It's located in the southwest of Poland 35 km from Wrocław. It's the home city of Michał Ostrowski, and Tomek Ostrowski, one of the best Doubles Freestyle players in the World, and World Champions from the year 2006. It has a strong scene, with players active for more than six years and a lot of experience.

We will offer different accomodation options for players to choose from. There will be a cantine running for the duration of the tournament.

New information will be posted both here, and the official tournament website. If you have any questions feel free to ask them - I'm here to give you the answers.

Hope to see you all here! :D

Pozdrawiam
Szymon Kałwak (Ners)

I just want to let everyone know, that the preparations are going well, today I attended a meeting with City Mayor, the head of administration district, head of Culture Center in Strzelin, head of sport infrastructure and other officials. Strzelin crew prepared a presentation and we all had a discussion that had the purpose of showing all those people why they should engage themselves in the project - everything went really well and I must say Euros are going to have a lot of assistance from the government. Of course there will also be private sponsors. I'll keep you updated on all further news :)

I think I'm going too :D One time I wisited Poland (I don't remember, which part it was... something with big mountains), and it was great! I also know that it will be cheaper than worlds- this year I just haven't enough time to get 300 euros for it. So Ners, thank you for organizing and don't be upset about not so much comments, I'm pretty sure we will have a great time! :D

It seems that Hotel Maria changed it's website, and is now accesible under this link:

http://www.hotel-maria.pl/index.php?lang=en

Another, cheaper accomodation option is a boarding school located 5km from Strzelin (there will be a special bus for player's transportation, there are also the normal buses that you can use to travel between the tournament venue and the school). Room prizes will be announced soon, but it should be about 30 PLN per night.

Glad to hear that you are attending :)

The registration on Thursday will run from 18:00 to 21:00 (part of the gym will be open for shred) - the bus to the accomodation place will leave at 22:00. Friday morning the same bus will take everyone to the event site before the start of the tournament.

The bus runs as follows:
In the morning takes the players from the accomodation site to the event site.
After all the competition is over, the bus takes everyone to the accomodation place so that everyone can take a shower and change, and then leaves to the afterparty.
After the afterparty ends, the bus once again takes everyone to the accomodation site. The exact times of departures will be given to everyone, if you miss it you will have to walk by foot or use a taxi.

Can't wait to see you here!

thanks for the information!
I have one more question:
I'll be arriving in strzelin by train on thursday evening. the gym isn't located on the map on the homepage. is it directly in the center where it just says "Strzelin" on the map? I hope it's easy to find, but it doesn't look like a long walk anyway ;)
