i think so, too!
plus i don't like the idea of all footbaggers spread all over town and not being at the one cool place to hang out and party.

I agree with that. I'll stay at strahov. I hope everyone else does too...

It's a lot easier, and more fun to go out, so all we really need is a convenient place to stay.

I'll be at Strahov at least for the event.

It's kind of getting close and it is getting more certain that I am going. I want to start planning. What are other Canadians doing? I am so clueless, but if an apartment is the best way to go, then do a bunch of Canadians maybe want to get together Terra-Verde-esquely?? (I guess Ted's plan sounds key, but I assume he's rounding up net players that I don't know...) I'll be coming with my girlfriend too, so the stories about the crappyness of "Strahov" are turning me off...

Also -- tips on flying to Europe? Cost-wise.
I know my brother just flew to Paris for, like, $500 CAN (which is looking to be 1/3 of what I found with a SUPER brief glance) because he was watching deals, like, a year ago, but I'm not as in-tune in the traveling world (and wasn't 100% I was going to Worlds). Is it cheapest to fly to any particular city/country and then take a train or bus to Prague, or whatever?

EDIT: Just bought a ticket 8) I found a tip saying that airlines often reserve their best deals for their sites, so I found $1200 on AirCanada as opposed to $1700 on Expedia!!!
Still need to figure out accommodations in Prague (I'll be in Germany for a month too).

EDIT: Thanks Chase. I ended up bought on a whim before I saw your post, but yeah, I'm flying to Munich, since my girlfriend is living near there for a while (about 3 hours from Prague). She's also been using this service where you sign up on the internet, I guess, and score rides from people for less than the cost of a train. Like, for instance, $20 instead of $80, since the person is driving that way anyway.

Flying direct to Prague is damn expensive. If you just search the airlines you can find cheap flights elsewhere in Europe. From there I would suggest taking Easy Jet to Prague. If you get your ticket far enough in advance it will be like $60-$100 direct to Prague. Easy Jet doesn't fly everywhere though. You should look at where they fly in and out of, then try getting a flight to that city. You could even use this to spend a couple nights in Ireland or something.

When I lived in England it was cheaper for us to fly to Prague and party for the weekend than to stay in town and go to the local pub...

Hey Erik,

I am going to Prague for worlds and have NO idea where I am staying, it would be awesome to get canadians together! Tom, Johnny, Jorden and I are all going, from Ontario. If not a terre verde style house, whatever, it would be cool to stay with eachother for the sake of speaking the same language.

I will be getting some prices together sometime next week or the following weekend. If anyone else cares to investigate before that could they please post any prices for places that may have rooms or apartments they choose not to get so others can. I am SUPER busy for the next two weeks. thanks ted f

I don't have the money to shell-out up-front for a place for a bunch of people (I don't know if I will have enough money to eat sufficiently...), so unfortunately, I can't set one of these up myself, but I want to try to look into it still and get a group together. I'd like a group like last year that is more toned-down and not a party house. Because I am so exciting.

you guys obviously dont have much of an idea of what prague and strahov is like. there are no fancy housing place like terra verde.
we should ALL go to strahov, as the event organizers are organzing it for us. they know what they do. might not be the cleanest and beautiful place. but still very cheap (consider the czeck crown gaining value the fastest of all currencys) and very close to the venue.
there will be much opportunity to spend your money on other stuff such as beer etc.

Hey everyone I have found a cottage just outside of prague that can accomodate up to 30 people, the 9days comes to $8620usd, or if 30 show $288usd per person I would have to put up the deposit which is 40%. If we got the 30 I would have no problem putting up the deposit. We can still add 2 more people in this place I just requested a price for 30(round figure) We would have two cottages side by side only 15 min to down town. 4min away is access to the bus system. we have full kitchen, rooms ( atleast two people per room). also can cook outside on grill. They offer a rent-a-chef 9some dude cooks dinner for ya $8usd per person. Here's the best they have bikes for hire! the best way through any city. Hey german dude!!! I guess you have only been too the shity part of prague.
Any way I will have a few of my prague friends see if they can CZECH out. This place is still not terre verde and the local folks put on a great schedule of bar/night club hopping so that could be a challenge. Also to stay at this place you would have to lock in money wise from the friday before worlds to check out sunday late morning. I have 6 people so let me no anyone else who wants too jump in. The place is split into two cottages next door to one another.

sorry, but to take something outside of the city center, that is not strahov is like the dumbest idea ever. prague is an european city - you don't get around by car, and believe me you don't want to be dependent on some bus that only runs once every hour. 15mins from down town can be anything, can be 15mins, can be an hour. and on top of that it's way too much money. come on, it's prague! $ 288 a week?

Yo please have a little respect here! I set this post up and do not appreciate people bashing my thoughts. If you are not interested than go set up your own post and bash me over there. Also I have been to prague a few times and that is why I want a nicer place to stay. This place is not for the people who like to be stuck in a run down, stinky,20 people to a room, place. This is for the people who for about the same price as the above mentioned dwelling, would like something alot nicer, with a jocuzzi! Thanks for your time and respect ted fritsch

Ted, you need to gather more info, that place sounds cool, but i think it is a little too expensive. I think the apartment idea is better and i think i'm down with that, the problem is that i'm still not sure if i'm going or not. Keep looking Ted and try to sure up the info on the cottage idea.
