Post by Zeb Jackson » 02 May 2010 21:55

This is the Footbag Freestyle World Rank MVP List. Here you will find the top freestylers in the world. The list will be regularly updated and and subject to change. If you are unsure about how this system works please check the second response to this thread for more information.
See a tournament that hasn't been listed added yet? please pm me and i will be sure to update it. If you don't send me the results of your tournament it WILL NOT BE ADDED. Of course as time passes and I get caught up on current events I will not be as strict on this subject.

How it works:

-This system is based off of 2 events held at most tournaments*. The circle competition and routines.

*= subject to change

-Point values:
Each tournament is grouped into a "tier".
Tier 1: worlds
A: The first place winner of an event held at worlds will be given 1000 points towards their world rank
B: The second place winner will be awarded 600
C: The third place winner will be awarded 500
D: The placement there after will in increments of 20 less per place up to 8 places (4th would get 480, 5th would get 460 etc.)

Tier 2: European Championships, and Us open Freestyle Championships (Or other major championships)
A: The winner of the European championships/Us open will be given 500 points towards their world rank
B: The second place winner will be awarded 400
C: The third place will be awarded 300
D: The placement there after will in increments of 20 less per place up to 8 places (4th would get 280, 5th would get 260 etc.)

Tier 3: Long standing tournaments that have had over 5 years of running experience
A: The winner of one of these tournaments will be given 300 points towards their world rank
B: The second place winner will be awarded 240
C: The third place winner will be awarded 200
D: The placement there after will in increments of 20 less per place up to 8 places (4th would get 180, 5th would get 160 etc.)

Tier 4: Jams/ random tournaments that other organizations held through out the year.
A: The winner of one of these tournaments will be given 180 points toward their world rank
B: The second place winner will be awarded 150
C: The third place winner will be awarded 140
D: The placement there after will in increments of 20 less per place up to 8 places (4th would get 120, 5th would get 100 etc.)

-Rules
1. Only those who have reached a "podium" rank in an event will be awarded the highest points towards their overall score
2. 5 or more open level competitors must have competed to qualify your tier 3 or tier 4 tournament for that year. (This is so smaller
organizations don't host offbeat tournaments to boost their clubs overall score.)
3. Only 3 "Tier 3" or "Tier 4" competitions may be added to your overall score. The ones in which you placed the highest in will be
tallied. (This is so that areas that have less tournaments and jams through out the year will be counted as equals to areas that have more per year.)
4. On the day after Worlds each year the score will be reset and start over.
5. For a tournament to qualify, the tournament director OR associate there of MUST send me the results of the tournament
(Top 3 places for each circle and routines)
6. Women won't have the restrictions that men have. The point values will be the same. (Basically Wherever there is a women's event)
7. If you wish to see your overall data that has been compiled to calculate your score please pm me and i will gladly send it to you :)
8. Only IFPA sanctioned events will be counted towards someones score.
9. In the event of a tying position like the example below, points will be given incremently so that players are rewarded for tying not punished, and also the players below the tied group will also be rewarded.

(example uses tier 3 points system)
1. Tom Krus +300pts
2. Matt damon +240pts
2. Hugh Jackman +240pts
4. Billy madison +200pts

I like it, but might I suggest ranking up to worlds as the culmination instead for the end of the year? That way maybe at worlds we can declare a world champion as well as the Worlds Best based on the point system after the event is over. It will give people something to strive for other than an online announcement on January first stating the worlds best. Just my thought.

Dude, Zeb, you are fantastic. Simple system, very direct, and no bullshit.

Poland / Milan are going to own this though, unless North America gets its act together, and starts throwing some tournaments here and there.

The system obviously could be integrated deeper, to account for certain things like tournament size [lets say Euros has 100 attendees, and US Open has 25], but, that should be considered far into the future, when our mystical sport updates itself to need a more intricate system...

I'm buying you a lollipop at the airport tomorrow. I hope I can find one of the ones with the 4 centimeter radius, and colour swirls all around the middle.

Yep, Vasek is 16th and no sign of Jim or Dave.

Sounds about right.

The trouble with this is Poland has a tournament every month it seems and nobody but the Polish and nearby countries can afford to go and compete.

A) you clearly didn't read anything but the current standings

B) your only allowed 3 tier 3 events on your roster for the year most of those people that are at the top right now have used all 3 of thiers.

C) i have at least 7 more tournaments to sift through before these standings are accurate.

D) this isn't to display who is the "best" particularly more like an "mvp" of sorts. Everyone knows that vasek has more knowledge of this sport than 99% of its population theres no denying that. Give it a week for me to catch up and it will be a lot better. Trust me ;)

Hey, That´s awesome I was really long time waiting fdor this rankings.
It´s good for the people who are going to many tournaments, it´s better than just make rankings after worlds and use them for all year :)

Thank you Zeb!!!!!

I think the rules do a nice job compensating for the various limitations, and this will be an interesting exercise. I'm sure there will be additional tweaking, but it's a great effort so far. Nice job and thank you.

Nice Job Zeb.
Im really interested to see how this plays out. I think a lot of feedback after this years worlds would be wonderful. But I like how direct it is.
Was this system something you created yourself?

LOL, no. He used my idea. I think you actually replied to my original thread about it in general footbag dude. Maybe this one came first.

In any case, it is a good way to start out. I based it off the system used for generating the world rankings for NET. The system works pretty well.

The only thing to really figure out is whether your points will decay from year to year or they will be erased an an annual basis. By decaying, I'm referring to the winner of Tourney X in 2010 still receiving 1/2 or 1/3 of the points for that tourney in the NEXT year. Currently, only WORLDS points decay in the NET system, but theoretically, winning an event in 2010 is still relevant to the 2011 standings, so you guys can decide whether all points should decay over time or not . . .
My name: Jeremy Mirken, AKA Chocolatey Shatner, AKA jerk enemy rim.
